Ski Car for under 10k?

debatable

I have a 97 legacy wagon, with 251K on it, it has all original axles and the original head gasket.

the difference is I have the 2.2 litre engine, the 2.5 needs new head gaskets every 120k

while the 2.2 is one of the most reliable engines Subaru has ever made.

also, the late nineties legacys were originally designed with the 1.8 or 2.2 liter engine in mind, so the 2.5s burn through axles, transmissions, brakes, and even tires faster

if you can find a 94-99 legacy with the 2.2 litre engine I would say that is the perfect ski car

This is what I whip in. You can fit 6 passengers and skis provided you have a thule, or about five people and all their gear without one. It has stow-n-go trunk, meaning it has a scooped out trunk that the backseats fold down into, providing lots of extra room.

It also has 330.000km and runs like brand new. The only thing is it's front whel drive. But if you can find an AWD minivan I would actually reccomend it.

My mum has one. AWD with 180k mi. Not a single problem/complaint. Aaaaaand, thread jack. $25k. Needs to be an SUV or hatchback, new, manual, an foreign. Suggestions? Replacing a CR-V.

Only if you got cash to burn. They're cheap because they're unreliable. Also, the original cost of a car carries into the cost to repair. Read: expensive.

04-05 impreza/wrx: These were the best years imo, the following year the base impreza suffered a 300 pound weight gain and 4mpg loss overall. The 2.5rs (for 04/05) gets 30mpg, and the wrx (0-60: 5.9sec, 227hp) still manages an impressive 27mpg.

The 2.5rs can be had in great condition for 7-8g's, while the wrx is more in the 9-10 range.

got my '02 WRX for $7500 with 108k miles on it. the thing is a champ in the snow and i have never had any problems with it. if you want something with more clearance i wouldn't suggest a WRX but if you don't mind it then it a WRX is definitely a legitimate option.

actually the 06-07 wrxs are the best from that era (02-07) because of the 2.5l engine. If you're buying an 04 or 05 might as well just get an 02 or 03.
