Finally someone is doing something that will progress this sport. The type of spins that Simon Dumont is doing is the only thing that is ever going to allow freestyle skiing to be in the same league as the olympic skiers who do those huge jumps and do crazy inverted spins. Those guys hit much bigger jumps and focus on the most important aspect of big rotations; that is form. Arms tight, legs together, and perfect rotations. When they land, they don't land backseat or stumble and try to pretend it is "steese", they raise their arms like gymnastic athletes to show that they are 100% balanced.
I think Simon has founded a whole new segment of freestyling that will end up being the most important aspect of our sport. Who can really say that his spins did not look 1000 times better than a corked 540 or a fakie 720 with a grab? I have said this before, we need to find ways to fit more rotations into our jumps. And the kids who said Simon did not "grab" on that spin? Take a look again, he had his hand firmly placed on his boot.
