im not sure if there is a thread on this. i searched the first page and couldnt see one so.... i just watched the freeskier podcast on simon and jossi in keystone training for x. im was in complete and utter awe throughtout it. simon shreds the fuck out of the park. i had always kind of limited him to pipe in my mind but wow. front+misty seven in one trick. he was throwing jon's dj flip as well. i dont know whether to be uttlerly disgusted at how impressive/aerialistic it is or to enjoy it.

i think it is rediculous how much this is turning into aerials going without poles and doing all this double flip misty dspin stuff. i was just in awe at simons front misty 7.
 
to all of you saying they are ugly, youre right, but their tricks are still in their infancy. You dont do an octo grab tweaked to shit, the first time you do a 7.
 
Cause it was possibly the ugliest trick i've witnessed by a top pro skier ever? are you fucking kidding me? how can you even be impressed? when i saw that video, all i saw was a begginer aerialist jumper in the park.

yeah its just ugly, its shitty for an aerial trick, and its shitty for a freestyle trick cause it totally lacks the style part.  same thing with his 12 at x games. even the double flips, like they are cool cause they are hard, but its getting to be soooo much about how crazy of a trick you can do instead of style, its going totally in the wrong direction.  like watch ski movie 1 and 2,  that ugly aerial shit was being thrown then and they dont do it anymore for a reason, now people are bringing it back.   but its partially the judges fault, cause they dont give a shit about style.  and thats why i dont like comps, instead of people being creative and doing what they want the judges control them and it isnt FREEstyle anymore.

...which makes it a really gay looking trick (to me at least). If it was a front-misty I would be juiced. Gymnastics and skiing should not be in the same realm as far as the flips we are doing.

agreed. the first draft of a trick is always gonna be rough. all the haters should go back and look at tanner hall's misty flips in the first berman movie. should he have stopped doing inverted 7s? how about cusson's fugly cab 7 at the first X-games? these kids would have been hating on switch take-offs.
 
except he is doing aerial tricks, skiing already went past this phase like 8 years ago, he isnt being "new and original" people stopped doing this type of stuff for a reason.  mabye he will somehow throw in a graba and it could look cool, but i doubt it, cause tricks like that kinda require you to be throwing yourself around.
 
You might be right. But doubles didn't go away because it was impossible to do them with style. They went away because they were dangerous, and there were plenty of other difficult tricks to learn. Why do a risky flip when you could be the first to 450 onto a rail or land a sw. rodeo 7. That's where skiing was in the Schraab days. But now there are less possibilities. You can go the Lolo route and do new double grabs; you can go the Gagnier route and do single grinds; or you can go the Swedish route and do some double-flips. Skiing might go through a bumpy period, but I'll bet you some classic tricks come out of each thread of progression.
 
its ugly as hell, but its still better then anything ill ever be able to do, and it'll probably progress into something with more style at some point hopefully
 
i hope someone does the butter cork 3 or cork 5 off a landing at X..

oh and simons switch 3 was sick. the front-full is definetly ugly and without a grab wouldnt score as high as it could. but making it look good is gonna be hard, the double front while hard as hell, doesnt ooze with style. a switch double front though i see some possiblities in.
 
yeah, sorta by the madison area. i love that seg in the warren miller movie with them and their grandparents watching them hit their homemade jump onto the hay bales coverd with snow.

 
or you could remember that it's a video blog post, not a film segment; you just got a privileged view into the making of a trick. if he doesn't smooth it out in the next few weeks, but still throws it in the x-games, then you can talk shit. damn, now that I think about it, you're right . . . that's exactly what will happen.
 
This video was when they were lappin the park, fuckin around, remeber that, you all trash on what he is doing. Throw a grab here throw a grab there, his double looked like shit blah blah blah. Who makes you guys the end all be all of skiing. I don't see you out there throwing the shit he is. But that being said, again coby,Jossi ansd Simon were fuckin around in the park.
 
how can you hate on a fellow skier first off. and second on someone who is pushing the sport to new levels and bringing loads of dough into the sport. for all those who hate realize that if its not for guys like dumont we wouldnt be riding all of this technologically advanced equipment and enjoying the amazing parks that are being built these days. i never can understand how a lot of the users of this website can rip and mame the icons of this sport for pushing the limits on thier skis, pushing the limits of thier sponsors and making money in the process. no one hates on Micheal Jordan or Tiger Woods for reinventing the game and making millions while doing it. ease up kids!
 
Everyone should look at it this way.   You know when the average kid goofs off in the park and throws a spread or a daffie over a jump?   Well this is Dumont's version of that.   (at least I hope)
 
Hey just cops peoples shit, or does pencil manuevers, he is super good but could be doing different and better things on shit. He litteraly sees what people do and copies them.... other than just like double front full like an arialist. Sorry for the hate, dumonts ill im just not feelin him right now

Simon has something there if he can actually grab it. But the aerials comment... fair point. You have to admit that does sort of look like he should be landing with his hands above his head.
 
Theres been plenty of hate on this subject already... Just because he threw that trick down in a practice run doesn't mean he'll do it during the x-games.. I agree, that at this point, he definitely shouldn't throw it at this point, but it obviously has potential. It seems like nowadays, all we have time to do is criticize.. No ones actually done anything yet besides try something new, so give them a little credit. It's like all of you guys didn't notice dumonts other shit in that video.. hes got his own style.. leave it at that...
 
man, he really should stick to pipe and keep doing those runs with boner style 1260s, no unnaty spins, and no switch stuff.

i am sure he was just joking around with those aerlist spins though. no one could give those spins style...not even mickael. i know people want progression and i like that he is trying something new but those spins were just wrong.
