Should Powder Bring Back Superpark?

For sure yes! Like others have said, make it interesting. Get creative! like the guys above, i don't want to see dubs the entire time, i'd like to see some whacky lines. Make it unusual and the riders will throw down unusual awesome stuff and want to see it comeback year after year.

basically, shit like this (or as close as the ski world is going to come to it these days) needs to be possible.

SUPERPARTY from BIG JERM on Vimeo.

Did anybody watch that video? Regardless of the potato's that all of that footy came with, some of that shit was nuts. Watch 3:14. I though inverts onto rails were going to be a direction that we would head. They were already doing them.....

spot on.

Invite Zac Moxley, EHeath, AJ Dak, Naps, and Evan Williams to film, instead of big companies! Liam McKinley too

Photogs I'd say Jordan Lloyd, Dan Brown, Grant Gunderson (if he does park shots at all), but I'm sure you have Powder affiliated protogs...

I think inviting people to an event like this is an art, especially if you want it to cover the whole range of what could be done.

There should be a few elite skiers, filmers, and photographers invited, for the more serious side. Then there should be a crew invite; invite people like 4bi9, (Clown School if it was still around), Hot Possie, The Hood Crew, The Traveling Circus, whoever else comes to mind, and they will bring less "elite" skiers, and their own filmers. Then, these crews will all (hopefully) come out with their own edits from Superpark, with whatever spin they choose to put on it. I really don't think it should be a contest, either. Just make it so that these dudes get a chance to go shred and film and have an awesome fucking time if they put an edit out at the end of it. Finally, from here, the elite filmers and photogs can capitalize on the skiing done by the crew invite skiers, as it will hopefully be a little different than whatever the elite skiers are doing.

I love the idea of a Ski Superpark. Snowboarder Superpark is one of my favorite things ever, so this thread has just gotten me all amped up.

Candide's cork 5 tail on that giant hip is still the best trick ever done at a shoot, in comparison at least. Nobody had ever gone that big and smooth at the same time.

Do it like JOSS, with team edits. Build massive, creative features - this shouldn't be hard given how awesome the features used to be superpark and parkasaurus.

Invite 60 athletes and have 10 teams of 6 skiers each one of whom is a team captain. Team captains are nominated in February based on a vote (have 30 skiers who can commit to going to Superpark submit their 'best' trick so far over the season, 10 are chosen by Powder). The remaining 50 athletes are chosen by a committee at Powder.

Two weeks before Superpark hold a web conference with the team captains and have them draft their teams.

In order to pay for all of this, make the team edits into a dvd/online download format with all of them flowing together. I'd buy it.

Mmhm. If this were to go off. It needs to be more of a jam format. With everything. Everything Hot Possie said. Beer sponsors, live music, trains, S.K.A.T.E, just all the skiers out there having fun, feeding off each others energy and creativity. No competition.

YES YES YES

It needs tons of planning and very little structure. Dont make it lame like this years WCS with the video contest. It just needs to be a huge shoot where everybody just chills and rides.

We needs tons of skiers, invited everybody. Build a ton of features.

Bring great photographers, like really great photographers, maybe we could get freeze parkasorus level photography out of this event. That would be amazing.

Bring big inflatable animals. Always awesome.

Filmers should just film who they want and whatever they want.

Get osteness to edit the main powder super edit.

Make tons of edit with b footage, c footage and d footage.

Thanks

We're paying close attention to this thread. Keep throwing ideas into this thread.

I like the crew idea but not as a whole. The fact is, the C-Crew was at Superpark but they were never invited as such. They were invited as Tanner Hall, C.R. Johnson, and Evan Raps.

Anyone that knows anything about Pat Bridges, SNOWBOARDER's Editor, is that he has the final say in who gets into their event. Garrett Russell once was invited because he was the Bridges' bartender the night before. Anything goes, really.

Careers are started there. I like the idea of seeing the best of the best throw down while some relatively unknown makes a name for his or herself on the big stage. Let's not forget Sarah Burke once left the big jumps and halfpipe to go hit urban with the Plehouse crew.

fuck yeah you should bring that shit back, you would be insane not to!

here's what you do: invite 150+ kids and make it a tap system on the 1st day. If kids are killing it, let them stay, if they suck and aren't doing anything dope -- tap them on the shoulder and make them go home. By the 2nd day, you will have a crew of 50+ putting that park to shame.

more so than a media event, make it for the athletes so they can just learn tricks and enjoy themselves. those guys travel the world with the biggest list of expectations and all this shit they probably don't want to do. I think it's time they can just ski and enjoy themselves and create some fucked up good content in the process.

why would you want to send people home? that would be such a bummer of a session, to have to show up on the first day, after making a huge trip, and either throw down or face the threat of getting sent home if people don't think you're killing it? that would suck.

oh and gotta make unique features so it's not just a dub/tripple fest. No one really wants to see that, I was so stoked on the old footage.

Invite all the big guys that we dont see hit park jumps anymore like Jacob Wester, Dash Long, Pep, I cant think of that many right now, but like the guys that use to go to Superpark but now just film backcountry. Candide also obviously. What Im trying to say is dont just have all the guys we see in all the edits that come out all the time. Nice one Powder, you are the best ski mag by far.

absolutely! it needs to be an event with well thought out features though. not just a giant ass jump and some cannon box launch pads. by all means, have those for the people that want to see them, but in addition i would like to see features similar to the ones bear thinks up, pretty much like the ones at 3:20 and 4:00 in this vdieo. open to tons of different interpretation and creativity so that every edit made has something different.

+1 for the idea of inviting crews rather than riders/filmers/photogs.

Doesn't have to be a contest, would be sick to just watch some banger edits on some gnarly features
