Should Powder Bring Back Superpark?

This is such a sick idea would defenitly suppport it and cheita and imlach and rogge and others are throwing out such sick ideas definitely want to see this happen.

don't get me wrong, i'm all for the nostalgic angle.

But look at all the mammoth shoots that have gone down over the years. How many ski shoots have gone down at big bear?

Long story short?(craig coker and tim russell on the flat-gap-down box?)

Big Bear would be a statement. Besides, i think it probably has biggest array of rails that could be utilized.

but it's all semantics. bring it back. Now.

do want. and if it were to happen, they should the jumps like the one hit wonder down under feature. such a beautiful jump

too cookie cutter for the most basic concept in snow sports?

i think youre trying a little too hard with the whole self-hating skier thing there

I'd imagine you'd hate JOSS, and you'd hate the recent West Coast sessions then - I'd love for it to be less structured, I think everyone would, but throwing out dreams won't make a gathering, it'll make the West Coast Sessions without edits, which would be sick but 1000x less the awesomeness that Superpark was. In this day and age, nobody's going to show up for a no-return (in terms of pay) event, period. At least anyone who's anyone.

Choose 60 of the most influential skiers. Ask 10 to be captains and choose their teams. Give them features to throw down on. Pay them a percentage of your earnings (Powder) based on how they place because if you don't it'll turn out like West Coast Sessions (which was cool, just not even close to a pro level). Bring back a real formatted superpark, where the best compete.

So... exclude most of skiing? You do realize you are a small percentage of what current skiing is? I'd love to see an equal weighting of creative jibs and big ass jumps, but even that wouldn't represent the populace of skiing.

Yes! Do want. Jump like this and a creative park like the one that Logan posted earlier of Bear.

Just hold a competition for the craziest feature, take the top ten designs and build them HUGE, and then have a guest list with a open lottery for 10 unknowns who are crazy enough to sign the waivers.

are we talking unknowns here, or ams? because if you're talking about adding 10 ams to a 40 person list of pros, that ain't it, but if you're talking about adding 10 true unknowns to a list of 90 pros and ams, that sounds awesome.

As far as features, there should be some huge, and some crazy, and some huge and crazy. Not everything needs to be massive to make for an awesome edit.

Yes bring it back. 2 thoughts.....

I think the first one at least should be at mammoth. Granted super park has taken place at other places, but Mammoth is really where everything took off. It would just make it a little more nostalgic.

Details and paying for it all is obviously a big obstacle. If it can't be worked out in Mammoth, how about a park-a-saurus/gun smoke remake at June.....

Aerials sure as hell not "POWDER"

but do what cha got to do to keep the old gray mag from future spinnin down the print media toilet bowl

of freeskiiing meh.

Whose runnin the show now that DT's gone?

Well at least there is still ski journal

That's weak that Keith Carlsen is complaining about Freeze "imitating" and "ripping off" Powder with their Parkasaurus events. What did Powder do to Snowboarder magazine then?

Have a contest, kinda like what Breck and the Dew tour did, but have two or three features designed by NSers, and then the rest by pros and park crew!

YES ! And Televise that live on espn or something, after all the exposure and air time skiing got from dew tour on espn this year, a superpark special would be a no brainer.

Why,...

I was lucky enough to get into skiing the year all this started with the air force, phillou, tanner, shane, etc so I'm proud to say Ive been in the game or appreciating it since day 1.

Superpark was legendary in my mind. I wanted to be fearless like those guys. At least i Thought they were fearless, I know better know, but that just gives you even More respect. Nowadays there are way more venues to show off the sport so Superpark doesn't have the same necessity it did then, but there should be a be all end all session of all sessions where ONLY the hall of famers or certain future hall of famers can participate. Not that new blood wouldn't razzle and dazzle, but it should be something that only the time tested elite can make it to. A real pure blood competition worth striving for and dreaming about. X-Games is cool, but fuck FIS, with all the rules there's pros and cons.

And to be honest, if Superpark came back the way i see it, it may still be cooler to make it to the x-games, but as a skier and among other skiers, it would be waaay cooler to one day make it to superpark.

Superpark gave me dreams as a kid, gave me ambition. Without it what would there have been... an elusive highlight clip somewhere deep on espn.xgames.com... anyone old enough knows what im talkin about...

Superpark done right would be phenomenal. Do lifestyle pieces on each participant, air the big names and list all of them online. That way people just getting into the sport will feel they "know" someone. It's always way more fun to cheer or root for a team or athlete you know a lot about, whether you pay attention to every stat, or follow sportsdesk, or read online articles... the more you know the more affinity you have with that team or athlete. There are no new Sport icons right now... and I don't mean nobody is worthy... there certainly are... I mean, think back to the day... think early Tannner, early Shane, early Douglas... Skiing was personified by these guys, Skiing was Shane, Tanner and Mike (among others) and they were skiing, and you knew who they were, their personalities, etc etc. It made skiing our sport instead of a sport. Only person doing it on a big enough level today, that's new, is maybe B Brown, unless there are others. Maybe Wallisch is still trying? I haven't followed this year. But regardless, it doesn't compare to what they did with the guys 10 years ago.

Think about watching UFC... if you know the fighters story his recent fights and history versus when you don't know the fighter at all... totally different experience. Seeing Mike, tanner, or Shane jam today (rip Shane), would be like watching Tito, Couture, GSP, or Silva fight... Seeing absolute phenoms like casabon, henrik, bobby, torin, etc etc, compete today, for the average sports lover that knows next to nothing about skiing,... is like nothing more than watching a good fight between two guys in the UFC you've never heard of.

Superpark needs to come back, unapologetically, and nothing less than the years #1 jam, and "to-be-place", in order to make icons of today to go with the legends it made from yesterday = long live skiing... and general fuckin awesomeness.

No, powder should build mini park for girls in xgames... OF COURSE WE NEED SUPERPARK BACK, what kind of silly question is that Rogge?

I don't know, I got into the sport with Front Line and Happy Dayz being the first movies I saw and I had no idea who the guys hitting Superpark were, lest for the few sound bites for Shawn Sullivan and Candide.

Definitely bring it back. It just needs the most variety in all aspects.riders- have a list of invitees and then hold a video submission for crews of unknowns like the berrics YOUnited nations. and don't just have a single winning crew, just whoever had a sick edit, maybe take like 8 crews of 5-8 people or something.features- everythingfilm/photo- let riders chooseand then just let everyone session. if there were to be a contest, everyone throws down way harder when they're having fun so make a few smaller fun creative contests rather than one big video contest/big air (not saying don't do these, just don't only do these.) for the whole event. and for exposure do it exactly like snowboard superpark does it with the edits
completely just spitballing here, no matter what happens superpark is the tits.

word. shit needs to be bangin' gonna need an HBO real sports with bryant gumble special, espn can't touch futurepark!

You're right. But, superpark has always been about the biggest, baddest features, and even with that I think creativity can spawn. I honestly don't think there should be anything lightweight about it. Big ass jumps, huge gaps to rails, and very difficult rails to grease with switch ups, surface swaps, etc. I love watching creativity, but I'd like to see it happen on gnar features. The problem I have with creativity is that its never displayed on a large feature.
