Should I Plead Innocent?

pay the ticket, your insurance wont go up very much. the fact you think that anyone gives a shit whether you think its fair or not is amusing. welcome to the real world kid

He's trying to help you out. The point is that he could have fucked you over. Pay your fucking ticket, pay for your fucking bumper, and move on with your life. Trying to find loopholes is retarded. It would be like going to court for a 5 over speeding ticket and saying, "Nuh uhhh, this ticket is false. I wasn't going 75 in a 70, I was going 90!" Fucking kids, god damn.

yes, and accidents happen. there isn't much you can take to court which will change their decision though.

This thread is hilarious, and I'm not against the OP-related lols, BUT, I'm wondering if the kid has a point.

- OP (who may or may not be a goombah) gets distract and runs into a stopped car.

- Cop, according to OP, did not actually see this happen.

- Cop gives OP ticket for "fallowing" too closely.

- When ordinary rear-enders happen, I don't think people get ticketed. What usually happens is the rear-ender (lol, buttsex jokes) is held completely at fault and pays for the damage for the rear-ended, but doesn't get ticketed.

- So, according to that logic (which may be flawed) OP might have a point in that the cop didn't actually see him get into a minor traffic accident and shouldn't have ticketed him for it.

Whatever though, this thread delivers regardless.

I hate NSG for this reason. But some serious advice, go to court, dress nicely, and explain your story. A lot of the times the cop doesn't even show up for court proceedings and if that is the case then your golden.

"so i ran into someone, and instead of the officer giving me the much heavier (inset ticket violation here) he gave me a fOllowing too closely"

if i were the officer, it would take something short of me being dead to not appear in court to make sure this ungrateful little shit gets his ticket.

You sir, are quite the douche. I messed up yes, but I would rather do community service than have this on my record for 3 years. That's understandable isn't it?

It's a civil infraction. Who gives a shit if it's on your "record?" It's no different than a speeding ticket, and probably cheaper. Go fucking pay it. If you must fight it, just ask for the points off your license and pay the fine anyway. This is NOT a big deal.

any kind of rear ender is subject to "following too closely". Technically, whether or not you were stopped, it just means that you were not at a reasonable distance to prevent the accident. If you had a reasonable distance between you and the car in front you, logically, would have enough time to realize and put your foot back on the brake. Going to court over something like this would be stupid. I got rear ended by a chick going 60km/h and got pushed into the car in front of me. thank god there was no damage to the car in front of me because if there was I would have had to cover his damages because I was technically "following too closely" even though I was pushed into him.

Who cares? Probably the person paying car insurance. Tickets on your record will increase your premiums. And getting points off does nothing in the eyes of the insurance company, they still see you got a moving violation.

If you do try to fight it change your court date, every ticket the cop wrote that day is scheduled for the same day in court so the odds that he'll show to that original date are high.

OP you keep avoiding all the legitimate reasons why you should not go to court by calling people "twats" or addressing a different part of their response. you are being very stubborn and ignorant about this whole topic. The people who have commented in this thread have court experience, a lot more driving experience, and are more familiar with the law. Get your head out of your ass and DONT GO TO COURT

You meant a record that matters? like his driving record, that matters to insurance companies that matters to his bank account? Taking things out of context? ha you don't even know the meaning of the phrases you use. "Clearly he's getting a traffic violation no matter what?" no that's not the case. if he's found innocent or it's dismissed he's not. Some states give differed judgements, some cops and prosecutors are willing to change tickets to non-moving violations. Your lack of experience is showing.

Thank you, Static!! At least someone gets it. Don't you guys know how much teen male insurance already is? And how much it shoots up from even a small, insignificant citation?

you rear-ended someone and had to buy a new bumper for your car and probably theirs. This is insignificant how?

if the accident isn't mentioned in the ticket and all you got was following too closely I don't think your insurance will go up all that much.

and being 15 and not having any previous tickets/accidents is like claiming you are the best roommate in the world because you payed your first months rent.

it's probably about as significant as a door ding, which is expensive to fix, but not like you almost killed someone

$90 is probably the standard fine for following too closely whether you're going 2mph or 50mph. And I doubt you'd be as stupid to argue a rear ending someone at parking lot speeds is as significant as highway speeds. Because, after all, we're discussing the insignificance of the accident.

It was a 05 Camry. My 97 altima has no damage whatsoever. Its their bumber that needs replaced. I have been driving for almost a year (I know that's not a lot) and have a clean record until now.

nope. well-- i had the same thing happen. but we were stopped, maybe that's the difference, but the car in front of me was stopped, I came to a stop, and the van behind me (distracted by a police officer on the side of the road) slammed into the back of me at 30mph, sending me into the car in front of me. The guy in the back had to pay for both cars and was ticketed.

Welcome to traffic court

it's FOLLOWING. with an "O" not a fucking A you illiterate fuck. If you can't even spell following correctly I wouldn't risk your chances in court because god knows you can't possibly be well spoken either.

just pay the ticket, don't gamble on trying to win the case, and move on with your life. also, get hooked on phonics immediately

that's the exact same thing that happened to me the guy in front had stopped. I stopped. the chick behind me kept going, slammed me into the guy in front and another two cars slammed into her. so it was a five car pile up. a bit of a shit show. I was told by my insurance and the cops that I would have had to pay damage to the guy in front of me. but luckily the girl who caused it took full blame and got everything done through her insurance.

whoa that would have been super lame.

Maybe it was because the cop actually witnessed mine, so he could verify that the two cars were actually stopped.

You're a 15 year old who can't take responsibility for his own actions. Maybe YOU should grow up, and stop making whiny posts on NS showcasing how incredibly stupid you are.

Go to court in a full first drop suit, then call the judge a gaper and you will get off the ticket for sure.

Precisely. I would be willing to bet he can get it expunged/deferred in 6 months if he maintains a clean driving record. I did it with a speeding ticket. Insurance never went up.

Well it looks like you're out of options. There are clearly no other ways to pay for anything in this whole world if your parents wont do it.

Well I mean you spelled it wrong every single time you wrote it...

That being said, I say just pay the ticket. You did hit the car, maybe it's not technically "following", but regardless, you were at fault. I don't think going to court is worth the $90, and I don't think it will do that much to your insurance.
