interesting video about our times

I'm very surprised not many people have posted here. That was a very entertaining video, I enjoyed it. It really puts some things in perspective.

You posted that information on the laptops a while back...crazy.

And my daughter is 3.5 and already uses my computer. Intense.

That's a great video. I was watching it and reading off all the stats to my room mate and we were amazed at some of the stuff.

That was really well put together and presented, but none of the statistics or ideas in the video was of any alarm to me. I wasn't utterly shocked by anything they stated. I guess it is putting it into a larger perspective that what I am normally used to, so it does have its benefits. I'd love to see the newer ones too.

I think the world is gunna be such a chillin place in like 30 years thats when levl headed pot smokers are gunna take over

Very cool. But it begs the question, where is the power going to come from for all this computation?

true, never realized that.

a lot of the things in that video were pretty interesting, but certainly not mind blowing simply because they should be obvious. such is life, and such is the evolution of mankind. It's an interesting time we're growing up in, that's for sure.

that 1000 dollar computer in 2049 is smarter than the human race analogy is bullshit

eventually information tech is going to peak, its not going to go on forever. eventually the internet is going to be fast enough.

It was this one. Different animation but the exact same voice and shit. Not like a report matters though haha it was a long time ago.

interesting

cant say i believe all of it

the hours of TV thing is a gross overstatement

that would mean, from day 1 on this earth, u watched 2.6 hours of TV a day (yes i did the math)

i dunno about you guys but thats more than i watch in a week

I believe it, soooooo many people watch tv all the time. I rarely sit

down and watch more than an hour of television. If anything I put on

the news in the morning or while I'm getting a snack. I've pretty much

stopped following tv shows, not enough time. It's ridiculous when I

hear someone talking about American Idol or something, people are STILL

watching this shit?!

In addition to that, it'll be like, "Hey you wanna hang out later tonight?" and she'll say "Sorry I can't tonight, America's Next Top Model is on at 8 and then Big Brother is on at 9." or something like that.

wtf?

I think its really creepy, I don't find it very appealing to live in a world where a 1000$ computer will be smarter then humanity in however many years it said.

but w/e, i'll become a hermit in the woods if need be.

I disagree. I have no doubt that within the next ten or 15 years there will be instantaneous information transfers. Also computers will have no lag at all, no working time, just immediately on and programs begin to work instantaneous.

my form tutor at school showed the class this, its a really great video, really makes you think about where the human race is headed and whats going to happen in the future.

pretty cool video I guess, but if you were surprised by that you must not be paying much attention to the world.

gotta take some of those statistics with a grain of salt, but it is interesting thinking abou that stuff.

I dont want to live in a world without philosophy. People of your disposition are needed as much as the Einsteins and Hawkings.

thats one hell of an example ++ karma. and yea when you take a step back and think about it the internet is fairly young and things tend to progress quickly when they are young. i believe the internet will never peak but eventually the technological advances will rapidly slow down.

agreed, or slowed down in the current fields for other technologies that, as they mentioned several times, we don't even know about yet. you could take the steam engine example and say well, back then they must have though how much more could they advance this? in 20 years it will take one piece of coal to run it.. hypothetically speaking. but now here comes the car, a totally different change in pace and a new technology to work on and improve. I hope the analogy made sense there.

I think you've got a good idea making a comparison to the steam engine, but i also think you missed it a little bit

the steam engine is by no means dead today, though you won't find it on the railways, you'll find it in power plants for example -- nuclear, coal, oil ... it's not that tecnology is going to disapear, it's just that it'll be utilized in different ways, where we still will be hevily dependant on it, but it may not be powering the same objects.

idk, maybe i misinterpreted your analog, so lets keep playing with it

I'm not sure how one would go about calculating or measuring the "intelligence of the human race" but if it simply consists of averaging out every population's IQs then it wouldn't be too hard to beat...as for the progression of technology...it will continue to evolve and expand, yet maybe not in the same directions we expect it to... unforeseeable events will take place ( i know this may sound contradictory, but they will, which is what the Bell Curve fails to take into account....but that is neither here nor there) that will help to shape new trajectories for technology to take....
