Whats so special about shanghia six, the HD doesn't look better anyway really, and it doesn't compare to Teddy Bear at all, so whats the hype.

have u sceen any of burmans movies? they all have been prity good and worth buying with some diferent shots then alot of the other movies. sure theres alot of hype from some kids about the movie and it may be a litle much but its definatly gona be a good movie.

what happined to drugs, sex, & rock and roll...now adays we have aids crack and techno.......

I have to agree with Gotama.....Don't get me wrong, Berman's films are so sick but there is alot of hype goin on around it. For me, the rails are good but get kinda repeatitive. I would far rather see TGR's or PBP's films because of the progression in every aspect of skiing.

The only enemy agaist progression is FEAR!
 
dude plenty of people think that teddybear will be much better. they are generaly kids who enjoy watching bc shit. i dont really enjoy seeing big lines in a video so in my personal opinioni like shanghai six more.

seeing how it is still july, i suggest waiting til all these suckers come out for real. it was a great year for ski movies, and there is abviously a high level all around. it is still july right?

Shanghai Six for sho. But I'm just not into the whole "we're so euro" vibe from the TBC teaser. Its the same quams I have with Absinthe. Euro does not automatically equate to cooler. I mean, if that were the case, none of us would have dental work or baggy clothes. Just kidding. But definitely S6.

 
Exactly. The urban domination I expected but those switch BC stomps just came out of nowhere. both TBC and Shanghai Six were really impressive and I am buying both

L1P knows how to make good movies. You gotta love the music, riders, and unique locations. HD is cool but it's not going to sell the movie. I like the direction that Berman is going with HD, but that doesn't mean that I'd buy an MSP or TGR flick just because it was HD. Berman, PBP, and Plehouse have unique ways of combining good music, riders and cinimetography.

i like bermans movies that showcase great skiers that started in the not so famous areas and are realitivly unknown.

i'm not sure if you understand this but for the budget difernce between l1p and pbp what l1p does is mind blowing, shots are just as good if not better in some cases and they havea really good vibe through the video, amazing stuff. it's pretty awsome to watch the underdogs of the sport do shit that's just as good as the big names. Take Vanular and Gagnier for example, gagnier wasn't well known before high five/red tape but he took out the most well known skier in the industry not once but twice..berman knows what hes doing and in my opinion l1p makes the best ski movies.

obviously level1 will have more urban, its that way traditionally, but, if u remember the 1st teddy teaser, there was a generous portion of urbans

dude HD will not appear in better quality so much on the Computer and it is a huge step for Level 1 because if im not mistaken they shoot in digi/3ccd for there movies. Im saying the 6th movie will be dope.

see level 1 progresses the sport of newschool...tgr progresses skiing. they have a lil bit of newschool but mainly big mountain and such. in my opinion shanghai six will be the best cause of the perfect mix between urban, park, and bc. he knows how to make a good movie

The Shanghai 6 teaser was massively overhyped, and that's no surprise. Threadmaker is right as far as that goes. That isn't to say it wasn't a good teaser, I watched it a bunch of times and it was damn good, just not as good as people are making it out to be. It wasn't one of L1's better teaser's, in fact, the last 3 movies have had better teasers... you could argue about High Five but I remember even that one had me more pumped. Forward and Strike3 were two of the best teasers ever. What I'm saying is, Berman always has good teasers, and this was no exception, but relatively it wasn't THAT amazing, and by his standards it wasn't even that good. On top of that his movies rarely live up to the hype. I know I'm gonna get ripped apart for that, but seriously, for all the shit that's said on here about them they're no better than "very very good" and usually don't break into that top 3 range. I think L1 is capable of producing a top 3 film, as Strike 3 very arguably was, but not this year, he'd need a wealth of footage, which he reportedly is lacking for S6, and a bit of luck to pull that off. So yeah... I'm sure S6 will be excellent and all, but it's by no means a must buy for me, unlike War and Teddybear, and possibly PYB, which are pretty sure bets. Maybe my opinion on that will change when I see it.

Now I await someone like twix 182 to interpret my post as me saying level 1 sucks. This wasn't a diss on Berman... just my opinion about the teaser and what movies I'm looking forward to most... So lay off the h8, kiddies.

i think its just an all around feel great about the movement of skiing video. i will purchase it because of the feel of it. not because of the insane tricks.

Everyone sht the fuck up. Serously, its the teaser, stop trying to analize which is gunna be "turbo cooler". If you dontlike the teaser don't buy the movie. Right now, no one should be talking shit, because the teaser doesn't mean shit. It shows some sick clips. Remmeber Wskis trailer from last year? eveyone was like fuck yeah, its gunna be sick and then they all thought it sucked. Just chill

My impression of level 1 is that there is a lot of park and rails, and thats what i want to see, so ill probably get shanghi six.

 
i've mentioned this before, but based on your assumptions, and whatever you've "heard", i think and hope that you will be pleasantly surprised by what comes out with Shanghai Six.

Not to say the other 3 movies you mentioned wont be just as amazing, and in different ways. As i've said before as well, it is gonna be a great fall for ski movie viewers. i'm excited.

 
plenty of hype & speculation gets bred during teaser season...for better or worse thats part of the waiting. it is a consumers market now, only getting more so with the growth and diversity of the movies every year.

 
i could be wrong, buri think if gotama downloaded quicktime 7 and watched the 30 mb version on an HD compaitable display as i am, he would see the difference between the two trailers

Dude is exactly right. At first I was like "uh god, l1 bought into the premature HDV hype" and everyone was blah blah blah all about the HDV. I just really didn't think it was going to be a big deal.

I downloaded the 50mb hi def trailer, watched it at full screen on a hi def display and was shocked at the difference. The color is a little flat, I like the saturated feel that other cams put out but man there is just such a difference. It makes watching other trailers like looking through dirty glasses.

I personally think I'll like Teddy Bear better as a movie but the HDV Shanghai trailer was nuts.

 
my opinion is that his movie has been the best one every year, from strike three to highfive, and i also think it will be the best movie this year, i like how he doesnt film with a million people that way he can focus on better segments for a single person instead of a bunch of 2 second long segments like X had, and the trailer def hyped me a ton, the rails in there were absolutely rediculous, i guess if your not so much of an urban person you wouldnt appreciate it as much

The new Sony mini HD cameras are not even close to true HD. When shooting skiing even real HD compared to film sucks. HD Cameras are at their worst when it comes to major contrast and extremely bright light. Shooting lit up snow is about as bright as light can get. Having a true HD camera in the outdoors sucks in other ways as well: way to big, way to heavy, they don’t like the cold, and the power source drains quickly so you have to carry three huge batteries that way 8 lbs a piece.

HD is good for shooting all your B-roll with because of the audio and you can control the light a lot better.

S6 is basically shot with a camera that is a little better than a really good 3 chip camera. HD is not the future for shooting skiing. The camera takes in the info and crunches 010101010101010101’s to come up with a picture. This will always give it that digital look. Film is real life not numbers being crunched.

Film still rules if you’re a really good cinematographer. If not then don’t waste your money. Even MSP and Warren Miller can’t afford to pay armature filmers. TGR does and you can see it in there films. The bad filtering (= bad exposesure), shaky shots ECT… They just don’t care because they still get their budget somehow.

HD, 3 Chip, or anything that records to a tape is the safest bet because you can shoot 60 minutes of footy for $7-$35. For sixty minutes of film to be shot, developed and transferred cost about $5500.00. So you better nail the shoot. Film is scary for armatures. So much can go wrong.

Oooooo film is so scary! Berman is actually one of, if not the best cinematographers the sport has seen in a long time. He can shoot whatever format he wants.
