Four students were wounded in the school shooting Monday morning at the high school in Chardon, Ohio, officials said. The extent of their injuries was unknown.

Police took a suspect into custody, locked the high school down and assured parents that all remaining students were safe.

"My understanding is there was one gunman," he said. Bergant said he believed the suspect is a student.

Chardon is a small city of about 5,100 people 30 miles east of Cleveland. About 1,150 students attend the high school, which is next to Chardon Middle School and across the street from Maple Elementary School.

I live in NE Ohio and regularly played lacrosse against Chardon.

Its such a tragedy to see this happen. I would have never thought something like this would have been happened in a town like that. It really isn't a bad town, but is still in the outreach of Cleveland's East side.

Unbelievable.

I live about 15 minutes from this school and my dad even used to be principle there. Its very sad. Everyone is shocked. There is actually quite a few skiers who go to Chardon and im pretty sure a few NS'ers go there. Its terrible that this happened. I wish the best for the victims.

This world is so fucked up, vibes to those kids, and any newschoolers from that school. Makes me so mad that things like this happen.

when i was in high school, some guy from out of town came to the other high school in my city, and he shot his ex-girlfriend in the parking lot and then shot himself. His ex survived, but he blew his head off... right in the parking lot during lunch time, so a ton of kids saw it happen. School shootings are really messed up

Update:

The suspect in the shooting of five students at Chardon High School turned himself in to bystanders in Chardon Township, a law enforcement official told CNN affiliate WKYC-TV.

A student at Chardon High School, Evan Erasmus, told CNN affiliate WEWS-TV that the suspect in Monday's shootings may have posted a threatening message Sunday night on the social networking service Twitter.

"I think he said that he was going to bring a gun to school and I think that everyone just blew it off like he was joking," Erasmus said.

Yeah it was really surreal. We heard a pop and saw kids SPRINTING through the halls. No one was really sure what was happening but we went into lockdown, not really knowing what was happening. Our teachers got an email about 10 min later that there was a shooting in the cafeteria. It was about 30 min or an hour later when the cops finally secured the building. And the shooter is confirmed. It's TJ Lane. He's a junior, really quiet kid. Anyone that brings a gun to school and shoots kids point blank is nothing but a coward.

Wow.. this is terrible.

any more details would be great.

I'm at school at Miami (oh) and the coverage here is pretty weak.

Don't really know what else to say. Kid had a terrible home life and didn't really seem like the violent type. NOTHING justifies what he did though. All our teachers did a great job of keeping things calm and safe. It hasn't really sunk in yet

This is so fucked up. I remember Columbine like it was yesterday and thought nothing like that would happen again... Time has proven otherwise. Vibes to Chardon HS

i heard the kid posted a tread on 4chan about doing it and said he had all this shit and he was going to kill a ton of people then kill himself. I can't find the thread though because my school has rightfully blocked the fucked up world of 4chan.

What room were you in? Thank god for cell phones is all i can say. I was scared shitless until finally we found he was gone. But yes our teachers were great, hopefully those guys will pull through.

Pretty much every school shooter after Cho in VT has claimed their hit on /b/ or somewhere on the Internet before doing the deed. On /b/ most just cheer them on and hope for "high kill streaks". It's pretty messed up.

Two shootings in Finland that happened in 2007 and 2008 both had multiple warning signs and claims on the Internet before they happened and could even have been prevented.

my friend had it on is iphone and it had pictures of him with a paper saying his school and when he would do it. I guess he was going to do it Friday but did it today instead.

I guess people were saying things like "fucking pussy, you call that a school shooting?"

holy fuck i hate hearing shit like this.

RIP to the people that had passed away already.

it is always the quiet ones. i creeped on a few peoples twitters from the link that was posted, amazing to see that people are defending this maniac. i am just glad he turned himself in, sadly for people in Ohio their tax dollars will go to support him for the rest of his life.

This was not a school shooting like VT or columbine. He did not go in trying to kill random people, or to kill as many people as he could. He had distinct targets, they were all sitting at the same table when he started firing.

Kids not accepting one another and being total pricks is what it's coming to. Another example of when push comes to shove. Its just unfortunate it ended up in such way.

Every time I am reminded of these particular stories, it makes me very uneasy around certain people at my school...
