SAVE BIG SKY PARK!

You can hate on bridger all you want, but that new lift also allowed for a bunch of jump spots out of bounds that are normally a long ass hike. By natural terrain park, I'm obviously excluding rails, but if you don't think that there are plenty of lips/cliffs/hits to go throw shit off of, you are looking in the wrong spots. I love skiing big sky and moonlight, and skiing real terrain park for sure. But you can't deny the fact that having some of the sickest lift accessed big mountain terrain in the country at your disposal when you get out of class at 12:30 is epic.

hahaha i wasnt hating on bridger at allll. its dope, when theres new snow. just saying that the slushmans lift def increased traffic over there

Hell ya man. I dont live in Bozeman now but if I did thats where I would ski. Hopefully I'll be moving down there this summer and unless things change Ill be going to Bridger mostly

good to hear!!
i deff dont think that it is worth switching over to moonlight just cause of the park situation that is going on at both places.. deff too much other good stuff to ski at big sky!!!

fpor suire that is mad good fun shit at big sky moonlight just has a bunch of rails but i hjope big sky can do some shit SJIT thgis yeasr but i just wanna ski dakota~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like spellling a lor@@!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Traffic out of both boundaries has been going up exponentially for the past five years. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the new lift increased traffic in that specific area, but it has vastly opened up the backcountry access to the south. It used to be a pretty long skin for each lap on the face of Slushman's, and a huge slog to do either Truman or Saddle. Now Slushman's is a ten minute lift ride, Truman is a quick duck under a rope (albeit with necessary skinning, which is totally manageble), and Saddle is a semi-brutal bootpack. Add in quick access to D-route and actual accessibility to stuff further than Saddle, and it isn't such a bad deal. Sure, all of these areas are getting way more skiers than they did before, but that also means that not only do I get to do more laps there, but I can get even further out...and people are much more spread out inbounds. The access we have gained over the past 4-5 years is incredible, and the positive aspects definitely outweigh any negative outcome you can think of. Take advantage of it and go explore (responsibly), you won't be disappointed. There are some amazing places out the north boundary that not many people know about.

thanks for the tips.

hahah how did this go from a save big sky park thread to the merits of the slushmans lift at bridger

ha ha. i hear it's supposed to snow this week. stoked. anybody up for a beehive booter day once the snow starts flyin? cuz i'm itching to get on my ski's as soon as possible. the more the merrier, especially when it comes to building big ass jumps

I have no idea what the hell that is but I am in once I get new boots and new bindings mounted...I wanna ski my Bacons :(

beehive basin is up in big sky... you drive past it like on the way to moonlight and hang a right before you would get to moonlight. it's perfect for pre-season BC booter building. as soon as the snow flies we should rally some troops and go build some shit

Man, what is going on??? The same thing is happening at Grand Targhee. They announced that for the 09-10 season, they were going to eliminate the park altogether.

I haven't done it yet. I just want to take some and go somewhere Ive never been with no maps or anything it would be a pretty crazy adventure.

I appreciate it Hannah. It's to bad the situation panned out this way, i will miss riding Big Sky.

hahah he did wake up with a cup of blood by his bed though... and its totally skiing related.

^ good question, i was going to give marketing a call Friday and include that in my question to them....

from what ive heard swifty park will be happening, with slightly more expanded stuff in there. but no ambush, so no big jumps.

Damnit, that sucks. Although, it would be sweet if they couldn't have ambush, if they had a big jump at the bottom of that run the whole year, like the big air jump they had last year

i dont think were gettin any jumps other than the mini swifty kickers. but idk. ive heard so many different things

I thought I clarified earlier in the thread but NO, our efforts (including everyone who signed the petition and joined the FB group) proved to have no impact on the decision at Big Sky this year. For the 09/10 season there will be no Ambush park including no halfpipe.

The only park at Big Sky resort this year will be what is set up in Swifty. Tyrel hopes to create a few more rail features, but with the way BS is handling money these days, that means he will have to build them himself.

If you guys have any questions, you can direct them to me. I am still involved in this situation and have direct contact to both employees and managers.
