SAT scores

You definitely have a chance to get in but i have a side story about stanford. My friend who is a senior this year, applied to stanford early decision and they REJECTED him, not even deferred, rejected. He had a 2380 on his SAT, 34 on his ACT, a 3.97 GPA, and was part of a few clubs. He was the validictorian Essentially the kid was freaky good at academics. He also played a sport every season all four years in high school. I honestly cannot figure out how he could have been simply rejected from any school.
 
Kid at our school (friends older brother) missed 2 questions on the whole thing. this was after returning from spain at an IB school Fresh, Soph, and Junior year with a 5.0. super genius? i think so. Not to mention he didnt' take AP Us history and read the book twice a week before the AP test.... and got a 5
 
kid at my school got a 2400 on SATs, is president of a ton of clubs including National Honors society, swims and runs, and is valedictorian and also got REJECTED from stanford

reason why? probably because he is a white male
 
My dad worked for the Dean of Admissions at Stanford and has done work for them for the past 20 years, I assure you, there is a method to their madness.
 
i tanked... 1650. first time taking it i hope to inprove ill take it atleast one more time. im hoping i do good in the ACT's too... i just wanna go to Boulder
 
My VP at my school got a perfect score on his SAT and went to Harvard for free, now he's working at a public high-school. What a down grade.
 
straight a's in everything and lots of ap classes^

and this kid at my school is im pretty sure 13 or 14, is graduating this year, and got like a 2300 and something on the sat

asians.....
 
Check out UW, it is where I am going this fall, and it is a sick school. I decided between UBC and UW, and UW seemed like it has more to offer. Plus it is right in Seattle.

Some other top notch schools out west are UCLA and USC with big bear and the likes not too far. But, do not go to school for how close it is for some good skiing. There are plenty of top notch schools that are just a bit further than some of the other schools.

i'd love to go there but i don't think i have nearly a good enough profile. maybe i could go for rowing

that'll work for the college's i'm applying to (UVM, Skidmore, American U, UMass) and my GPA's really good.

still, might take it again in the fall.
 
Yeah UCLA and USC aren't really my thing I don't think. I like beach/city areas, but only for short periods of time. I'm more of a mountains person I would say.

Also, I've grown up in Salt Lake skiing like 3 times a week, I dunno if I could deal with going to a school where the nearest skiing is 2-3 hrs away.
 
Community participation stuff is ranked on a level from 1-5.

1 being local type stuff, and 5 being national/international impact of your work. 4 and above is basically what they look for. Looking for the whole person, if you got a 2390 SAT and 35 ACT with a 4.8 average but didn't do anything, you're not in. They want to see that you did the best with what was available to you, and was in reason for you. A student athlete isn't expected to take quite as many AP as a non-athlete, stuff like that. I'm not sure if they still do alumni interviews, but that is the place to nail it. Inquire about an alumni interview and you can really show the person that you are.

Funny story, when my dad worked at the admissions office one year, the prompt was "2 words that best describe you." They read an essay and the only two words written on the page were "demon sex". Kid got in. He had the credentials to back up a stunt like that.

i feel like i could've done better on the critical reading to bring it up, but it's good enough for me cuz i'm going to school for music.
 
1940 which I'm pretty satisfied with.First time I got a 1750, but that was only because my calculator died 3 minutes into the first math section, so I was fucked.
 
i got a 2010, only took it once. i think it was 630 reading, 690 writing, 690 math. ACTs are much easier
 
stanford takes an act of god to get into

i know plenty of kids with near perfect sat scores and like 94 averages at new england prep schools with great profiles who have been flat out rejected from there. it's a truly amazing school though
 
if you are used to the drive to ski from SLC, then boulder will suck. expect at least 1 hour 45 to the good mountains, up to 3 depending on traffic/weather.

check out UW. it was my top choice (i had a 3.6 cumulative and 2040 SAT) but i got denied. it's a super fun school, and skiing is 50 minutes to alpental/snoqualmie and 90 minutes to stevens.
 
I don't even remember what I got on my SAT's for writing. I wrote a half page of bullshit and put my head down till the next section. Otherwise I got a 1200 which was the perfect amount to get the scholarship i wanted to the school I wanted. Everyone in this thread is a geniues I guess by getting like 1400's are you guys planning on going IVY..
 
I did basically the same thing haha, I remember the essay I was done in like 5 mins since it doesnt count, and I started each line with OBAMA like O for one line, B for the next, and so on, because it was when he was running for primary's hahahaThen on the other two, I got a wee bit more than a 1200 (a 1210 to be exact haha) and that was enough for me and my college and scholarship, and honestly, if I got say a 1300, it wouldnt have mattered for me at all, since I the scholarship was 1200 or better haha
 
i completely tanked the sat i took in march. im taking them again in june and acts in june also. hopefully i do well enough to get into castleton state college in vermont or suny ranger school
 
ahahahahahhahahahahaha someones angry, and its even funnier cause the person u were quoting wasn't even making fun of u.

I know that, but I work slowly, so a calculator is essential if I want to actually get the sections done.
 
You dont actually need to ever do any algebra on the test either, but it is definitely faster if you do.

I always had my SAT students work without a calculator in class, but in a real test situation, you want whatever extra help you can get. Just make sure you know how to use it well. Not operate it - know when to go for it and when to leave it alone. It can be a great help, but it can also get you mired in crap if you're not careful.
