'And, I see that she's just another gun-toting, war-mongering nutbag, like all the rest of you conservatives!'

'She has a down-syndrome baby...how can she possibly manage her responsibilities as a mother AND vice president?'

'Well, what do you think about her 17 year old daughter getting PREGNANT, not exactly a conservatives dream, is it?



Your winning, logical, reasoned arguments

1. As the chief executive of her state, she is better prepared, and has more experience to bring to the presidency than the man who heads the democratic ticket, who had only a year in the U.S. Senate before he started running for president.

2. I thought Washington was broken and we were looking for change? It seems to me that you can't get much further from Washington than Anchorage, Alaska.

3. Well, this "war-monger" has a son enlisted in the Army who is being deployed to Iraq on September 11th. Now, BOTH members of the Republican ticket now have, or did have sons in this war. I'd say they're pretty heavily invested in it, wouldn't you? Who does Obama have in it? What's HIS military record? I'm sorry, maybe "community organizer" on the South Side of Chicago qualifies?

4. Excuse me? Aren't you the "women can have-it-all" and "do-it-all", people? Now all of a sudden, you're saying she needs to be barefoot and pregnant at home with the kids?

5. I'm sure that's not anyone's dream for their children. But unlike Obama's stance, that if it happens to his daughters, their way out would be abortion because, he "doesn't want them punished with a baby". She is doing the responsible thing...marrying the father, and having the baby. Besides, I'm not sure with Obama's family tree and upbringing the way it is, you really want to get into this discussion.
 
but track records can shed light into the way future decisions will be made, and so far, Barack isnt looking so good... i mean really WHAT HAS HE DONE?

(i know we have debated the "what has he done" before, but i dont think you have ever said anything about it rowen, so i am interested to know what you think)

 
Familiarity, sure, no question. But again, as you say, thats only part of what you think it takes to be a great leader. I think both candidates have that knowledge, with McCain certainly having more than Obama. I think that the defining difference in this arena though is that 'act on your feet' ability given a set of circumstances. Listening to both of them speak, I'd have to go with Obama on this one, though McCain might be bale to win some back in the upcoming debates.
 
I pretty much laid it out in response to jmunster, but yeah, I agree that Obama is lacking in experience as compared to McCain. It really begs the question 'how much is enough?', and thats tough to answer. Depends on the political climate and the state of the world.

Chief of a state of less than a million people, for less than 2 years. And before that governor of a tiny town of what 9 thousand? Before Obama was a US Senator, (which he has been since 2004). He was a state senator for Illinois for almost 8 years. Illinois contains chicago and extremely modern and productive city.

When they talk about change they talk about earmarking, something Palin was the queen of.

What does having a war record or kids in the war have to do with being president. Palin herself believes that god supports this war, and it has been proven time and time again that mccain supports the war, and has the potential to get us into another with his short temper.

Theres a different between Hilary, whos daughter is fully grown and can tend for herself, or even obama, whose wife is still there to take care of the kids. Palins son is four months old and has downs syndrome, a serious condition. Yet at the rnc he was being held up like simba in the lion king for the world to see. (before anyone claims family shouldnt be brought into this, i agree but when palin waves her kids around on stage the rules change). Not to mention her husband has a DUI, and probably isnt the guy i would want being the sole influence on my kids while im off running the country. But thats a non issue

How is marriage the responsible thing? for all you know they arent in love and could end up in a constantly fighting relationship or divorce, both rediculously hard on a child. And i doubt obama said that his children would have to have an abortion, they would have a choice, something i highly doubt palin gave her daughter, given her evangelical background. But again, children are a non issue

So... you're implying two things without any basis:

1. There is some connection between MSNBC and Al Jazeera because their booths were placed next to each other.

2. Al Jazeera is not a good news outlet to be compared to.

i dont know all the details, am too lazy to look them up, and hardly consider it an issue. but basically, obama served on a comittee with this dude bill ayers, who was an admitted member of the weather underground. wu was a hippie/ yippie extremist group in the late 60s/ early 70s. i think maybe he plotted to bomb the pentagon or something. sean hannity and bill oreilly are the only "news" people who ever bring it up
 
Due to the way that some candidates have defined 'middle class', you can include up to 95% of the country with that statement.
 
give me a break rowen, i was comparing her to other politicians, what's with all the naysaying. Her and her husband combined made like 98,000 or something like that last year (under 100k anyway), I think a married couple making less than 50k a piece is a solid definition of middle class...

but whatever...i guess you could argue this one to the death
 
It wasnt intended as a complaint against you or Palin, just the way everyone in this country sees themselves as "upper middle to middle class".
