i am deeply saddened to hear this. i watched his backflip via the Tour's live webcast. It was really a huge huck ... maybe 60 feet or so. he seemed to touch down with his feet first but then crash. it looked like soft snow but you can't tell from a webcast. after his crash it looked as if he immediately tapped his head - a signal that he was ok - but then rolled over on his stomach and lay with his head in his hands facedown. the competition then stopped for quite a while as the ski patrol attended to him and took him off the mountain. when the comp resumed, the commentators mentioned that he was being air-lifted from the resort.
this is very sad. i wish his family, friends, and the freeride community the best.
