Request: Pro Skier Workout (T-Hall, USA/Canada slope/pipe team, etc.)

I have seen Jen Hudak's and Sammy's work out on EXPN.

I would like specifics, not just "do squats and core work" or "jump on a tramp for hours".

It would be sweet if there was a video outlining the training schedule and regiment.

Tanner and Shaun White have gotten noticeably more muscular.

inb4 training for skiing gay and OP is gay for looking at Tanner's and Shaun's bodies.

Just focus on exercises that test your speed, agility and balance. It's pretty easy to find workouts that revolve around that. Strong core and strong legs are a given for skiing but don't forget the upper body for the snow bunnies.

i heard they masturbate straight for 12 hours, the rest of the 12 hours are spent sleeping and eating and drinking.

What works for one dude will not necessarily work for someone else.

The best workouts are the ones that involve hard work, sore muscles, dedication, and lots of sweat.

Everyone seems to be looking for a magic work out, I have yet to find one.

ya i know but i hope skiing doesnt become like most sports where all the pros are benching and running and stuff more than theyre actually skiing just so they can win a contest

www.gymjones.com
this is where Jibber Jeremy Jones and several other high level olympic snow athletes train, along side a multitude of fighters, climbers, and other BAMF's.

While I agree with what you're saying, I think that if we want skiing to be recognized as a sport by mainstream people, that is what would have to happen. In every other sport it seems like it's 90% training 10% competing, and in the future I could see skiing being like that.

This right here. If you wanna become better and achieve your goals, Training will help you. Nothing beats the feeling of a newly learned trick.

yes but alot of that training is skiing. there is no way our sport could progress with new tricks being invented if everyone was off hill training all the time

Thanks for the responses.

I know my way around the gym and have rehabbed from 2 ACLs injuries but I guess I just want to see if there is an new exercise or schedule I can try that would help me even more to prepare for the season.

A video blog would be sweet...any pro want to jump on that?

That was definitely a lame ass article, but the thing to take away from it is the importance of anaerobic exercise. You can read this as pretty much high intensity weight lifting. All of the classic workouts like squatting, etc will work, but try and do them as high intensity as possible. You should be sweating your ass off.

If you're doing something like 3 sets of 10 squats, do 10 squat jumps in between each set, and then go right back to the squats. Every time you do pretty much any workout, think, "can I do this on the bozu ball?" Yes, you can. It will turn the exercise into a full-body workout, utilizing your core, legs, and sometimes upper body.

Cross-fit is a really good implementation of these kinds of workouts. Really high intensity, but you'll be building a lot of muscle too. For people looking for specific workout routines, look up different cross-fit routines and exercises and figure out what works for you.

and then it will only hit the targeted muscle 20% as hard. Horrible, horrible advice. Worst fad to hit fitness in a while. Its dangerous, and only lets you work with a minimal amount of weight. If you want to work on stabilizing muscles, or on balance, great! but it shouldnt be combined with compound lifts.

A yoga day in your weekly routine is a much, much better option.

Find a crossfit gym. 30 minute workouts thatll kick the shit out of you. if you do them 5+ times a week, you'll see a difference no problem.

Do Plyometrics X from P90X.

Your legs will burn, you will sweat and you will die, but it's a great workout.

I mixed in this 30 day program with my lifting and running. It's pretty legit and hard as hell. Kind of like p90x but harder. You lose atleast a pound in water weight each time.

also this is the guy who takes you through the program...

To be a pro skier you should smoke copious amounts of weed, drink to excess more than twice a week (usually every night). Anyone who works out is a fucking pussy and clearly not a pro skier.

I've been waiting 7+ years for this call out.

I should save this for the "how did you choose your username" thread but here it goes. High school library before history class. Want to create a thread but don't have an account. Decide to use "capernicus" because I have a history test the next hour and he's going to be on it. Find out it's actually spelled "copernicus". Don't change the name. Find your name soon after and realize I look like a poser based on your status and member number. Don't do anything about it (7+ years) because never confronted...until now. Whats up?

Back to the thread. Does Jon have a training blog. I haven't really kept up on his videos?

And Shaun-T or whatever is fit but not necessarily for skiing. Tony Horton (P90X) actually loves skiing.

Find the Spartan Race closest to you, register for it, give them your email to receive their workouts of the day (WODs) and follow them. Youll be in skiing shape in no time. Most Spartan Races are held on ski mountains because they offer the most challenging hill terrain. If you dont feel like doing all this, just start running with a 50 pound sandbag.

I had my friend burn me the plyometrics, core synergistics, and ab ripper P90X DVDs. I alternate between the first two every other day and on the days in between I do abs and endurance oriented lifting for a half hour.

90% bodyweight, for some exercises you just need a simple halter set or those stretchy band things. A sturdy chair and someplace were you can do pull/chin-ups.

And if you have a hardwood/concrete/tile floor invest in a yoga/exercise mat (get an expensive one from Kettler, your back will be grateful.)

The entire program is on Piratebay.

Now go out there, and get strong!

Actually going to get my trainer to start targeting my sessions less on body comp and more towards skiing as we get into fall. We'll see what he and his compadres come up with.

i've found a workout that really helps me with balance/core/legs.

take a "Bosu" ball, or the half exercise balls that are hard on top. put it hard side up. grab a 45lb plate and hold it to your chest and do 3 sets of 10 squats balancing on top of the ball. then do squat holds, where you squat to the point where your legs are parallel on top of the ball. hold for 30 seconds 3 times. if your legs aren't shaking or you're not sweating, go up in weight.

let me know if you're looking for anything else.

My program is all swimming. I swim up to 40 laps a day 5 days a week. Freestyle, breast stroke, and legs with the kick board. I think its a great way to work your whole body with out any physical impact. Also is great for cardio, so I dont have to focus on one thing in specific each day. All in one errrrry day!!!! These days it doesnt matter if you want to win park comps, or be a backcountry skier. You gotta train and be strong if you want to stay in the game. Always striving to achieve the best in everyway. No lazyness here.

Almost all the exercise that shaun t takes you through involves some sort of balance or using your core, so that should be really good for skiing. but yeah it also does help your endurance (which you don't necessarily need as much for skiing). you can get a lot of stuff done with an agility ladder, jump rope and medicine ball that will help your balance, agility and your core (which is great for skiing)

Yes! Thanks for your response!

Also, NevWild, that is exactly what I am looking for. Their core training DVD they have is also probably very legit but I think it's around $30. Anyone have it? Core Training or Ski Movie?

Karma for everyone!

now imagine how much better you could get if you actually tried to improve your strength and explosivness in skiing related movments in the offseason instead of just "staying in shape"

swimming is an awesome way to get in, and stay in shape, but has very little carry over to improving skiing performance...other than you being in good shape(should be a pre-requisite for the season).

People fail to realize that genetically, pros(in any sport) are better, and can do things without training that you or i would never be able to do with training. So dont go blaming Dane stomping 60 footers on his offseason training; blame it on his mom and dad.

Are you questioning Tudor's awesomeness?

After this thread I reckon I really should get start training again... It's been 3 months or so...
