Republican Nominee 2012

Anyone folllow politics? Who the hell are Republican's going to elect that can beat Obama.

Romney: He's a morman, a mediocore 1 term governer from a veryblue state, who flipped flopped on abortion and is now trying so desperately to move the right all he does is talk about "ghihadists" and Iran. If unemployment doesn't improve in the next year, theres going to be a lot of resentment against a guy who is pouring tens of millions of his own fortune into the race. I don't see him winning any states in the South.

Palin: Where do I start. She's more of a celebrity than a legitimate candidate. Sort of a Rush Limbaugh type. Is she even going to run or blame it on the "lamestream" media and keep making millions off speaches? She writes on her hand, can't name a founding father, and gives pathetic answers in regards to job creation and the economy. Republican's don't actually trust a hockey mom like Palin with the Nuclear codes....right?

Gingrich: Has been outspoken about climate change, and has been informally endorsed by Democrats - a kiss of death in a republican primary. He's been married 3 times, but he probably has the best shot so far in the list, since he doesn't have that loosing stench to him that the above too and Hukabee have, given his success in the House. But are you really going to have a candidate named Newt?

Huckabee- Don't have a whole lot to say about the guy. Did ok in 08, but republicans didn't want him them, so why would they want him now?

************Wanted to throw in here that no one above has served in the military. Doesn't mean they can't win, but it doesn't help in a repub. primary

Paul - As much as I would love to see balanced budgets, no fed, and an end to the Afghan and Iraw war, he will never win a republican primary. If your not pro war any war, and give full explanations instead of sound bite answers, you don't stand a shot. Plus he supports the end of the war on drugs, and the dept of Homeland Security.

Jeb Bush: I think he's out of the race before it has even starts. That is unless he changes his last name. I think it might be too soon for another Bush, given the mess left to obama in 08/09 and a handfull of other reasons. Maybe in 2016. Anyone want to disagree?

Barbour: I really don't have a lot to say here either. He's getting a lot of attention because of the oil spill, but I think he seriously lacks electability.

Jindal: He's not white. This is a republican primary, not a democatic one. Plus he's said he's not going to run.

Thune / Pawlenty: Both considered in the top 5 candidates, yet still stastically trailing the NEO Con Romney and the America's favourite hockey mom. Do these 2 stand the best shot?

On intrade the above 2 are trading at 15% and 12% respectively. I might throw $250 on these 2 and use the other $250 to short Romney at 30% and Palin at 20%. $700 profit on the win and $250 profit on the short. Almost a G right there.

So who are republican's going to elect?

p.s. Notably left out are Daniels, Santorum, Perry. Didn't have tons to say about them, and don't seem to be doing too much (if any) traveling to the early primary states.

Discuss.

I would totally vote republican if their platform wasn't based on religious nut-jobbery... So I hope they pick someone who is socially liberal, but thats never gonna happen.

Romney or Jindal please.
They're the only two with legit electibility. Romney may get some shit because he's mormon, but he's credible and he hasn't pissed too many people off. Jindal is the supposed republican godsend that may be too young to succeed, but he's about reforming the GOP, so that's a plus. Paul will never get elected. Palin HOPEFULLY will never get elected. And I'll have to read up on the rest. Newt should never see office again, I know that.

You guys supporting Romney are dillusional. All he does it talk about bombing iran. Iran is a 3rd world country with no army navy or air force and now your talking about an air strike on them for acquiring one nuclear weapon. Have you forgotton you stood up the solviets with 40 THOUSANDS nukes, without going and attacking them? Preemtive war was an invention of Hitler, and I can't believe this is now American...

Choosing a favourite Republican, is like trying to choose which member of your family to fuck: none of the options are really that appealing.

Whatever happens, you'll end up with some gay-hating Christian extremist, who wants to protect every unborn child just so they have the right to shoot them in later life.

Hahahah...in all honesty, I think Obama will get lucky if he has to face any of these potential nominees. He is pushing his agenda through (stimulus, health care, financial regulation) and that is making him pretty unpopular among voters. If he ends up facing a legitimate threat, I think it could be a tough road for him.

Bobby Jindal is not a reformer. He is as bad, if not worse than the rest of the field.

On abortion, he is probably the furthest right of all the candidates, and his fiscal policy will cause misery to most of America.

Wrong. I prefer to vote democrat, but I feel I should read up on both sides of the race just in case there's a candidate on the Republican side I like better. I am hardly Log Cabin. Should there come along a Republican candidate that supports equality, Neo-theologian Christian values, and environmental protection, I would vote for him.
I lean Libertarian Anarchist, but I remain Liberal because I am forced to for my sake.

I'll restate that. Not anyone, but if a half decent Republican is in the race I think he'd have a better chance than Obama even if he is the incumbent just because of the shitty job he's doing.

about 90% of polls show him beating everyone listed above heads up. The closest one was Obama 42, Paul 41, and 11 Other candidate. Thats as far as I remember anyway. He's trading at about 60% right now to be the next president in 2012.

In my opinion, if Obama can make it through the mid-terms with little harm to his Congress then he could focus on less politically charged issues, such as environmental protection and energy issues. If he can push through his agenda on things like that, he will be the favorite to win 2012.

If someone were to just man up and go Nuclear I would vote them regardless of what else they stand for. Earth before self.

They definitely have aircraft that would pose a threat. To argue otherwise would make you a fucking retard. A good portion of their combat aircraft came from the US anyway. The question is, do they have skilled pilots that would even be a challenge to US forces? Highly doubt it. Do they have a steady supply of ammunition and ordinance? Doubt it. But you don't need a steady supply launch a few attacks that could kill hundreds of military personnel in that region.

The problem is the public is too uneducated about nuclear. They think nuclear = bad. I don't know much (if anything, at all) about nuclear, but the "green" movement is all about clean, renewable energy nowadays.

LOL, you don't actually believe Iran's air force is a thread to AMERICAN National Security do you? Not their allies, but America itself. Meaning you think Iran's air force is going to bomb the US.

The absolute goal of the green party is nuclear energy. Fucking scared sheep don't even realize that nothing like Chernobyl is ever going to happen in the US. Three Mile Island? We proved we were able to contain a meltdown 30 years ago with zero casualties.

Your level of stupid just keeps going up. If you're not careful you'll evolve to a full blown water head.

But in regards to that idiotic statement you just made I'll quote my own words for you.

"...you don't need a steady supply launch a few attacks that could kill hundreds of military personnel in that region."

Special emphasis on the part where I said 'in that region'.

Then how is this America's business. You can't try and be the policeman of the world forever. Debt eventually has to be paid back.

Haha I saw. Well if you're curious, it's always good to know - it's going to become a major debate here pretty soon. As the US explores more and more ways to become less oil dependent, nuclear energy is going to have to be rehashed. To make a long story short, Three Mile Island Incident was the only major meltdown on US soil, and it was successfully contained in 1979. The reason Long Island isn't just a huge Chernobyl now is because the US employs building standards in their plants. We have the technology to create long lasting renewable energy (especially now, 30 years later), but we fail to use it.
And that nuclear waste you keep hearing about? It's radioactively contaminated WATER. We have ways of filtering out the water, but it's very costly. Most companies choose to simply bury it within thick layers of concrete and plastic.

For starters.. how is what America's business? wtf are you talking about? No one here is advocating team america world police and certainly not me. Once again.. wtf are you talking about?

Specifically what debt are you refering to? We prrobably owe everyone money in one way or another so would you care to elaborate?

I was talkin about about iran's air force/having a nuke being america's business haha this has gone so far off topic. And as far as debt, I meant public debt. National debt.

The only guy that can beat Obama is Jon Huntsman. However I think that he will run after Obama is done with his 2nd term because he is currently working for him with foreign affairs.

When it comes to nukes, it's kinda like how blind people shouldn't get to drive. When you're mentally unstable, you shouldn't really have access to nuclear weaponry. So when people like that try to get these weapons it's of great concern to pretty much everyone on the planet. I won't even bite on the debt topic. Back on topic....i know it was said already and would be waaaay too good to ever come true but I'll say it anyway. Ron Paul 2012!!!

While I don't have faith that Ron Paul can win the presidency, I think he's a very practical person, and isn't into dramatic politics or hysteria. He's been in politics a long time and really knows his shit. I'd vote for him if he were on the ballot.

haha agreed! RP 12'

If he runs as an independent as the only anti afghan, anti drug war, candidate, he has some hope of getting double digit support in the general election.

The republican party does not have anybody outstanding - and im a republican.

Obama is doing a piss por job but if we do not elect an outstanding candidate he could actually win a second term.

it doesnt really matter who wins, both sides are corrupted anyways. Washington in general needs to be deported haha.

But they are a threat to Israel, which is an indirect threat to the United States and it's agenda. But by no means do I think we should bomb them. That'd be fucked.

I am a registered republican and if they let Palin run, I am going independent. She is one colossal failure.

if he makes the ticket ill cream my pants.

You need to eradicate your politics, and start again.

I complain about my government no end, but at least our candidates aren't extremists from either wing of the political spectrum

America doesn't need a staunch socialist, and it sure as fuck doesn't need a paleoconservative or a libertarian.

Little harm during midterms is kinda doubtful.

A fair share of Americans are extremely annoyed with how he and his Democratic Congress have forced shit through.

Unfortunate fact of the matter (if you are a very hard left leaning person like most of NS is) is that Robert Gibbs was right. The Democrats can and may lose enough seats in both the House and Senate to make it nearly impossible for them to pass anything without having a long compromising process during the creation of a new Bill.
