Refresh vs. EDIAS: The Clear Victor

I agree whole heartedly with this, EDIAS just didn't have the overall atmosphere that I was looking for, whereas refresh had some heart and soul. I just think the overall feel of refresh got me more stoked.

Please qualify your response with some substance, seriously. Do you even know my musical taste? I'd love to know what horrible techno and "rip-off" rap I listen to, because I sure don't know myself.

Why do we need a winner? Isn't it enough to be stoked by both of them, and go skiing?

C'mon people, we're all sick of spin to win and the judging in comps, why do we have to bring the same competitive rubric to ski movies?

The clear victor in my opinion are Online Edits. I don't know about anyone else, but I enjoy the random ass edits that everyone from pros to gapers are posting more then the ski films coming out (that includes Refresh, EDIAS, Contrast, and WIld Stallions). I think that is because all the ski film companies have a formula now and haven't changed it in the last couple years. I understand they all develop a consistent style and like to stick with it, but they could all learn some lessons from the edits that are dropping these days. A little bit of carefree creativity can go a long way.
Though if you really wanted me to answer this question, Refresh, hands down is the winner!

ive seen both but im gonna have to say i like edias more. i had seen most of wallischs shots in edits and i felt the songs were way to slow. edias had better music and better locations. but boith were amazing and everyone needs to see them.

i have edias and it is sick, i like most of the soundtrack too. i do wish there was more urban though so i may have to buy refresh for that.

i own bothive watched both many times, and im going to have to disagree with youRefresh and EDIAS are both absolutly amazing. Best ski movies i've ever seen, but refresh was more of a feel good movie for me than EDIAS
but they were both amazing, just get both

edias seemed like a lot of repetitive doubles. and everything just kinna was thrown at you. Refresh in my eyes was very well put together. soundtrack - riders it was all there.

Yeah, I've seen both a bunch, and EDIAS is definitely really good and the skiing in it is truly amazing, but Refresh is just a much better movie to watch. The music, the editing, the vibe is just super rad in Refresh.

At the end of EDIAS someone says "You know that feeling when you get up in the heli, or get off your sled and you're about to shred a line?" NO! I DONT.

At the end of REFRESH, it's Warren Miller saying, "If you don't land a double cork 12 this year..." Which is something that I find far more meaningful.

Close...
"that feeling, like when your riding home on your snow mobile, or your riding back from the heli that feeling is ridiculous, thats why I am why I am you know because thats what I live for. Going out and being in the best places in the world with your best friends like I wouldn't trade that for anything, you know what i mean?" Tanner Hall

There is no question in my mind that Refresh is the best ski movie ever made. I'm gonna take the time to write an essay about it eventually.

here is how i compare...refresh is a timeless ski movie. there is so much more soul involved in the making of the film, specially with the narration by warren miller to cap it off. edias is an excellent movie...i own them both. but refresh takes it for me...bringing together the god father of the ski industry with the most steezy young guns of the future and find a happy medium of the fact that both...just enjoy the sport for what it is. fun. sums it up for me....refresh will be talked about for years to come because of that. the movie was epic

I've seen both, (EDIAS first then Refresh 2nd) based on what i enjoy about skiing and what I found more entertaining I would have to say i enjoyed Refresh more. EDIAS had alot of awesome shots and moments but Refresh entertained when the movie began right til the very end.

I live on the EC and i usually ski park so I can only watch so many BC booters and pow shots before I get bored but surprisingly I enjoyed Contrast just as much as Refresh. and Tim's part in EDIAS had me sitting at the edge of my seat the whole time.

i didnt see one thing about ahmet in here..he fuckin slayed the scrotums off those rails just as good as everybody else and he deserves some respect.

and in my opinion..which means absolutely nothing, Refresh is my favorite ski movie evah!

Dude, Tanner is the man, but that quote is whack. I've never been in a heli or taken a snowmobile into the BC...so am I then not a part of skiing? What a fucking joke...

On the other hand, I absolute love the voice over at the beginning of the Finland segment where Will Wesson is undersliding and switch lipping and what not, its all like " you can ski wherever hand have a blast, you don't need no money." That's so much more real, and I found it to be a really true statement of ski love...and again, that's another reason why Refresh is the DANKEST. It's not just about the skiing, it's about the vibe and the outlook on the sport that the movie projects.

To me the movies represented completely different areas of the skiing lifestyle.

PBP has and always will find the best riders, best locations, and push the limits the furthest (in terms of setups and shots: i.e pbp park at skibowl).

Level 1 has been a more grounded realistic approach that brings in some "unknowns".

As far as EDIAS, easily the best PBP movie made yet. The sound track was sick, even though I don't enjoy each song individually, the placement was outstanding.

The shot style and selection along with editing was extremely well done, I still get chills thinking of Andres follow cam shot through the double tree tap.

For me, refresh symbolizes the everyday skiers approach to a professional ski film. This more of the "new age" type of skier. It focuses on skiers who have gotten recognized for their style, edits, and presence on NS. There are very few "professionals" who make a living off of competetion standings.

Both movies are rediculously good. There really isn't a "winner" because all you assholes flaming someone else has bought both.

i love the skiing in EDIAS, but honestly the soundtrack made it hard to watch, i hate all this reggae in ski movies :( its awful

Wiley Miller's section followed by Warren's commentary is absolutely inspirational.
EDIAS was super high-energy, got me way excited to ski. Refresh just made me smile during the whole movie. They're both superb.

i acutally popped the movie in to get the exact quote, and im going to do that again. like all throughout the movie, he is talking about what ever gives you a certain feeling, and that was him explaining his certain "feeling" ill get the quotes(s) in a minute

ok this is his first quote in the movie
"it's not like you have to go to one place to find that feeling, you can go anywhere in the world, do anything you want to do, and as long as that feelings there, your going to keep coming back every year to get that feeling and more"
think about that feeling doing something (i'll assume skiing for obvious reasons) that you love. Think about that feeling you get when you land a new trick or even just have a great day skiing with your friends. Isn't that why you love skiing? Because of that feeling? And if it isn't skiing, then whatever else you love. I hope this isn't misconstrued as me arguing EDIAS as a better movie, because I have yet to see Refresh, so I have nothing to base a opinion comparing the two. But I do really like Tanner's quotes, because I really can relate to them, and although I can not relate to his exact examples, I can to the idea and the feeling he explains and expresses.

i like the music better in refresh....
i like the jumps better in EDIAS.....
i like the rails better in REFRESH.....
I like the way EDIAS was put together more......
but i dont know which one was better at all.....

Bangers per minute? BPM? Ski movie sickness quantified?
so like... ROI Return on Ignancy? ABL Afterbangs /landing?
no.

they were both rediculous.. and i think people arent giving wallisch enough credit. i think people are just used to him being so good. if u look at his tricks they are still fuckin nuts. but casabon's age has come, i agree

Buy both - they are equi-sick - Refresh will make you smell the shit on your fingers and then snap it out with a big Fuck YEAH - EDIAS- is Poor boys not to be fucked with legit shots - good music - Tudor was a nice surprise and story and was nice at IF3 to me drunk as fuck and annoying - Contrast also sick didn't get much love because of no rails and talking and what not but Music and shots primo and Pep's last trick over the rock drag spin thing was red dragon material

both movies are awesome and some segments of EDIAS can be watched over and over but i think refresh is much more easily watched start to finish and refresh makes me want to ski more than anything other than seeing an edit of someone ripping my home mountain.

both are amazing movies. i'd have to say i liked refresh better, probably because I went to the world premiere and just saw EDIAS with a couple friends. refresh's sound track is for sure better but EDIAS did have the "wtf" factor. lots of bangers in both the movies, get both.

not gonna lie, haven't seen EDIAS YET. but dont know how it could top refresh. God Delormes part was fuckin nasty. Wallisch's song sucked but skiing was just pure win. end of the movie when it cut to nanana made me tear up, almost cry. Warren Miller of course put a great vibe into the movie. I dont see how anytihng could top it.

Do want to see EDIAS tho. imo don't single out one movie company. Both have been around long enough to be big name and make some dope movies. So far so hood is on the way so Ill see how that goes and prob will get Field P's movie at some point as well.

I haven't seen EDIAS yet, but one thing I liked about Refresh was the vibe it gave off. I thought the intro and outro were perfect in the movie, and with Warren, he could really capitalize on how skiing changed, and how rapidly it's changing now. I loved having him narrate the movie, and I thought every segment was a good segment. Refresh really got me so stoked to ski.

I just finished watching refresh, and quite honestly the movie was well made it was great to have the parts of WM .. but after watching EDIAS the bar was F******* high.. so my final decision, EDIAS had better film and effects (SHOUTOUT TO DANE TUDOR) .... + athletes in EDIAS are a bit some sort more entertaining,,, which makes the film better..

Refresh Mammoth Shoot is IMO the best "Feel Good" Segment i've seen this year - L1 always has an epic, fast paced, feel good seggy with everyone just slaying.... like the Keystone shoot in Real Time.... . just total feel good, watch again and again seggy.... the mammoth shoot in Refresh is epic - the Cannon with Harlaut and Casabon.... sh*t me....

Yeah, don't get me wrong, EDIAS is really, really sick. Nick and Tanner just kill it in the voice overs and on snow. Sooo good!

Agreed! I forgot that!! Vanular is so sick throughout Refresh - it's so epic to see him back doing crazy sh*t..... that mammoth shoot is so sick...
