REALLY NS? (Lindsay vonn)

she fuckin shreds. hasn't lost a WC downhill since last february. and she won female athlete of the year i believe.

judging by the hate towards racing in this thread, i dont think any of you noobs even know how to carve. sure its gay and boring, but you cant deny the fact they actually know how to ski.

Good thread smuggs. What the fuck is wrong with NS? You all get pissed when kids hate on your tall tees and lack of good skiing skills, and then you go hate on racers. Hypocritic fucks. I am so glad I can ski park, and the. Go up top and rip through the trees. Show some respect towards our sport. Going fast and rippin turns is super fun. I miss the feeling of the wind rushing through my hair and my stomach coming up into my throat as I would go over a little hill at high speed. I also love being able to ski powder well because the technique is so similar to ripping a groomer.

Anyways, Lindsay is on another level and is really hot.

not boring at all actually. i love a nice long freshly groomed run to carve down. plus, you actually look like a good skier and can gain speed faster by carving than just going straight down in a tuck.

Lindsay vonn appreciation thread, about time sure, she killed last season too. dont forget shes hot, its not like were gonna lecture NS for the non appreciation of unattractive racer chicks.

This thread makes me want to leave NS. I always watch racing on tv, and Lindsay Vonn is beautiful. How can you kids be ripping on racing like this? Who cares if Newschoolers is a freestyle ski forum, obviously some of us don't mind racing and aren't immature little fucks.

Yeah there is definitely something wrong when kids aren't into hot girls slaying on skis. If I was these kid's parents, I'd be worried.

Racing is sick, because its skiing. Big mountain is sick, because its skiing. Freestyle is sick, because its skiing. Thats it.

i think skiing magazine had an article on her last year about how she grew up skiing at a super small hill and there was pretty much nothing to do other than race. nevertheless shes is an amazing athelete freestyle forum or not she deserves recognition not women/kitchen sexist references.

Hero? Really? She's a skier and by that list her only achievements are skiing ones. But I'm from Canada so if that constitutes an American hero that's cool I guess.
And to all the people calling out people who aren't stoked on her, really? This site, no matter what it has become now, didn't start with racers as the focus. If you joined this site you probably like the freedom of skiing whatever you like however you like with no rules, having fun, and racing doesn't seem to be in that category for everyone. Plus many of the racers I (and many others) know are not the nicest people to be around. So to expect NS to worship this american racer seems to me a little bit off the mark.
That said, she sounds like an amazing skier, is really hot, and I'll give her respect. I'll give racers respect, but that doesn't mean I like to watch it, do it, or chill with them. Sorry, I dunno why I posted in this stoke thread and ruined the vibe.

sounds like most of you guys are saying nice shit cus shes hot... im sorry to say but i bet shes getting boned by some rich ass Olympic ski racer right now

whats a hero to you? superman?

i know for a fact that when i was growing up people like the three phils and jf cusson were larger than life and most deffenately my heroes. saying vonn isnt anybodys hero is stupid. that dude mike phelps couldnt possibly be anyones hero either, all he did was win some swimming competitions.

oh well.

actually shes married to Thomas Vonn who skied for the US team and made the Olympics in 2002 so semi-right.
but yeah, this is a good thread almost ruined by immature little fucks who don't have enough respect for skiing other than park. dont get me wrong i love skiing park but jesus guys, stop hating on racing because Lindsay Vonn will always be a better skier than a lot of people on this site.

You said "American Hero". That term has other implications. Generally that type of person saves many lives, always does the right thing. Like firefighters of 911, or WW2 vets who put their lives on the line for others. Or cops who save people and put their lives in danger. Like it refers to the stereotypical american who fights for freedom or justice and in the face of danger ends up doing the right thing. They represent American ideals, hence "american hero".
I didn't say she couldn't be someone's hero. Pretty much every creative pow skier is my hero. I'm not doubting that she's yours or someone elses. We're on the same page on that, don't worry.
If you just meant that she's an American and that she's your/someone else's hero, then sorry. I misunderstood your initial post.

i only found one definition for american hero

A man who willingly spends time with and puts up with a girl

who is high maintenance or has some other personality trait that is

otherwise considered undesireable. These men are heros for saving other

men from having to interact with these girls.

"Did you meet that crazy girl Lisa at the party this weekend.

Jose is an American hero for staying with her."

Shut the fuck up. You are seriously giving someone karma for a sexist reference. Grow the fuck up and open your eyes; you look like a 12 year old douche. Especially funny considering how bad ass Vonn is.

Never really got in ski racing ... don't like it, don't care about. the Olympics are hype. who fucking cares about bobsled, biathlon, and speed skating? no body, thats why you only see it at the Olympics.

I met her at a traing camp a copper one year, so hot. But realy I dont think peaple should hat on racing when so many of your favorite park skiers were racers at one time(Dumont among others). Its not a bad thing, it only makes you a better and more well rounded skier.

That's because you looked it up on urban dictionary. It's a literary/philosophy term. Maybe it isn't as widespread as I thought though. I've been told by reputable people more than a couple times that an american hero is the definition that I listed. But if you didn't know that definition I'm sure Smuggs didn't either so what I said before is irrelevant.
But if you're doubting me you can look up "american hero" on google and it suggests american hero in literature. That's the one I was thinking of.

update:

lindsey vonn 8 world cup wins in 09-10 swept the downhill (won all 5) also named most influential skier in the world. second only to shawn white in most influential and recognizeable snowsports athlete.

nobody cares about the olympics someone says? this whole damn website wants to see halfpipe in the olympics. the olympics and world cup soccer are the only way to properly measure one countries strength against the next. oh well

i respect it, i used to race and have friends that do, but it just isn't whats interesting to me. She is a great skiier but personaly i would rather follow pro skiers that do the same things as i do.

some of the posts in here are pretty silly. if you don't like this post go over to gear talk and talk about how to layer tall tees.

Man this Smuggs kid really has his heart set out for this broad

i bet if she saw this, restraining orders would follow.

Sick dude she won some races and is killing it because mommy and daddy had a few extra million to put towards her skiing. To become a professional ski racer you NEED to be loaded. If you are not incredibly rich you will not make it past a regional team.

You need to relax dude you are just making a fool of yourself and making a mockery of NS. This is a skiing website correct, but it is a FREEskiing website. There is nothing about racing free.

I also find it awesome how you consider her an American hero. I am Canadian and my hero's are ex-politicians making this world a better place. People in search and rescue looking out for my ass if i get stuck in an avy. Doctors, firefighters, and ski patrollers, any one who SAVES LIVES.

she on the other hand is an athlete, in a slowly dieing amateur sport.

I have no respect for your opinion. You are just a pissed off racer kid who gets no respect in the park, because ur hitting the jumps with way to much fucking speed, and ruining your edges on rails.

But ye racing is fucking gnarly and dope, anybody willing to go that uncontrolably fast has serious balls. It takes alot to get to that level in racing and good for her, but a hero... no.

Also no snow being in the kitchen is awesome, fuck anybody who gets offended by this.

How many womens rights activists does it take to change a lightbulb?

none, they cant change a thing

He tried to call me out and I wrote a response. So serious. I'm seriously serious about how serious that post was. No fun allowedz on ur interwebz.

Not sure where you get your facts from, but you might want to try another source. You don't have to be rich; you just have to be fast. Look up Billy Johnson, gold medal in Sarajevo in Downhill. From what I've read, Bode Miller's parents were hippies and not loaded. I know that a lot of the best Europeans were farmers. Tamara McKinney- Dad drove her around to all of the events. The list goes on.

Lindsey Vonn’s quest for five Alpine skiing medals may be in serious

jeopardy because of a serious shin injury suffered a week ago in

training, the skier revealed Tuesday.

Vonn has had fluid drained from the deep bruise, which she has been told will take “a couple of weeks” to completely heal.

“It’s essentially a deep muscle bruise, so I have a contusion. So the

muscle is bleeding and it's really deep inside the muscle,” the World

Cup champion told TODAY’s Matt Lauer after arriving in Vancouver

Tuesday.

‘Excruciatingly painful’

“When I tried my boot on, I was just standing there in the hotel room

barely flexing forward, and it was excruciatingly painful. And I've got

to try to ski downhill at 75, 80 miles an hour with a lot of forces

pushed up against my shin,” Vonn said. “I don't know honestly if I'll

be able to do it.”

The injury could be a crushing blow to the 25-year-old Vonn, who was

the best female skier in the world in both 2008 and 2009. Considered

the best American female skier ever, she seemed a lock for multiple

gold medals and a threat to win all five of her events.

Until the injury, Vonn had been in top form and was coming off a win in her final race before the Olympics.

“I won the last World Cup race. I felt perfectly healthy, I was happy,

I was coming in with confidence, and now I have another injury,” she

told Lauer. “I fought through injuries before and I'm no stranger to

that, but it's going be really hard. I just have to try to stay

positive and do the best I can, because that's all I can do.”

Lauer observed that Vonn comes to the Vancouver Games carrying a lot of pressure. “This has to multiply that pressure,” he said.

“Definitely,” she said. “That's why I wanted to tell you about it ... I

at least want people to know what's going on, and if I don't perform

well, why that is. But I can guarantee you that I'm going to do

everything I can to be as ready as I can with this injury and still try

to ski well.”

Playing it by ear

The first training run at Whistler Mountain for the first women’s

event, the super combined, is Thursday and the race is Sunday. The

women’s downhill, the premier alpine skiing event, is Wednesday, Feb.

17 with the Super-G on Saturday, Feb. 20. The giant slalom is Feb. 24

and the final event, the slalom, is Feb. 26.

Four years ago in Torino, Vonn’s medal hopes were dashed when she

suffered a horrific crash in a training run for the downhill. She was

evacuated by helicopter to a hospital, where she was diagnosed with a

hip injury. Despite the damage and the pain, she entered the race two

days later, finishing eighth.

Vonn has a history of coming back from injuries, but she looked

concerned as she talked to Lauer about this one. “I’m a lot less sure

about this injury than I have been in the past,” she said.

She said she feels fine until she puts a boot on and attempts to ski.

Vonn said she will show up for the first training run Thursday and see

how she feels. Under anti-doping rules, she can take pain killers but

is not allowed to get a numbing injection into the injury.

“I feel OK now, but anytime I'm in my boot it’s painful, so I don't

know. I've got to wait until the first training run on Thursday. I'm

going to go up there, I'm going to put my skis on and see how it

feels,” Vonn told Lauer.

“I have to play it by ear and see how it feels and take it day to day and just keep doing therapy and hope it gets better.”
