I'm an instructor and I want to make one thing very clear: when I am responsible for any student under the age of 18, it is my first and foremost duty is to keep them protected on the mountain and keep their safety first above ALL. If there is someone skiing recklessly, you better believe that I will alert patrol or give them a warning myself. Regardless if I am freeskiing or in uniform, I always uphold safety and caution to the HIGHEST standard; I have seen too many accidents out of carelessness and lack of safety both on and off the job and I am not afraid to do something about it.
And just like anyone else, instructors are part of the team that make a resort work; all departments have to work together to make it work!!! I became an instructor because of the amazing benefits, to live the mountain lifestyle, option to progress in my own skiing ability, and the great feeling that comes with teaching someone something that I love! I agree there are definetly those who have been "instructing for too long" or have a "hot head" about their abilities, but you will see that anywhere, just with skiing it is more prevalent because it's such a universal sport.
take that and think on it next time you want to disrespect.
