Rant About Whatever

In their defense, 39$ really doesn't go far in today's world. that's what 80K a year BEFORE taxes? so we're talking take home pay of 60K?

That ain't shit with prices these days.

Agreed. Though the article does point out some guys in the NYC area are topping $200k working insane hours etc. but ya the job is tough as work and deserve proper compensation. My neighbor is a docker leader at the port of MIA and he makes damn good money but the guys under him don’t make anywhere near what he does.

Ok, fuck ski trailers. What is the point of showing basically the whole trick and then cutting out the landing. IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. You are not building anticipation but quickly cutting out the landing.

I hope they get fucked and the feds force them back to work (which is legal). They've been demanding a 77% payscale raise over the next 6 years (on top of usual performance raises). They were offered 50% but insist that's not enough.

They're demanding that the ports sign a contract banning all automation. They're taking it so far that they freaked out and ended negotiations this summer when the union boss saw an automatic gate at one of the ports (y'know, the same kind of gate that every apartment complex uses). Instead they're demanding that every gate needs a full time, pensioned employee sitting there to open/close it for trucks.

This union is a textbook example of how Big Labor can be even worse than Big Business.

Nice, hopefully they get a nice contract and can resume work quickly.

Man, you're going to hate having a job if you're whining about college breaks being short.

I fail to see what's wrong with any of those demands. They want to ensure jobs going forward and get a decent pay package with locked in increases over a medium term. Corporate profits continue to reach record highs, C suite executives continue to have record breaking compensation packages as measured by multiple of average worker pay throughout a given organization.

Also that's their starting position in the negotiation. I'm not sure if you understand how this works but usually the parties will go back and forth a few times, Union demands will be whittled down and corporate overlords will come up with a few more dollars, benefits, incentives, and the settle somewhere in the middle.

Do you think 77% (total payscale!) raise is reasonable? How much has your salary increased in the past 6 years?

Normal jobs give a couple percent for inflation and a couple percent for performance/promotion each year. Now consider that they're demanding 10% per year just for inflation!

Do you think it's reasonable to cease all technological development at our ports? Are garage door clickers too high tech to be used there?

This union is not in the interest of normal people. They have a near monopoly on exports from our country (yes most of our valuable exports leave from the east coast). They should be treated like any business that holds a monopoly and price gouges the country, forced to break apart under the Sherman antitrust act.

It feels weird reconnecting with relatives you haven't talked too or seen in over a decade. But I hope they're doing okay. It was a really bad falling-out with my Dad's side of the family but I do still miss them. I miss hanging out with my cousins and doing fun shit.

homie, the adderall and cardiac symptoms are likely related and thats a huge red flag

And the coke. Dude Woz you gotta settle down dude or you're gonna make a huge young and dumb mistake that will bite you in the ass. Just focus on school and sports.

It’s weird he wants to do good in sports but is over here destroying his body with hard drugs. (Meth and coke are hard?)

I'm not a cardiologist by any means but I don't think 18 year old healthy student athletes should be passing out from cardiac issues. There's plenty of resources out there on campuses nowadays for struggling students. Doesn't hurt to seek em out Wozy. You got a lot of good shit going on for you right now. Don't fuck it up.

Make sure you are taking care of yourself man. As much as I like giving you shit the past two posts are worrisome.

How to destroy your ass/quads 101. 20 weighted lunges, 20 weighted squats, 20 weighted crabby bois, and 20 weighted jump squats. Now do it all 3 times. Leave the gym crying every time but it will be worth it. I’m a little bitch so only 50lbs for my lunges, squats, and crabs. 25 for jumps.

yooo i had a check engine light come on for a diesel particulate filter. did some digging and looks like it needs to be hooked up to a computer and it will burn off the soot by high revving for 45 minutes while hooked up to the computer. so sounds like a service center visit at the dealership to me especially since its still under warranty. i call and make the appointment for today at 10:45. drive 1.5 hours down to denver and get there at 10:30. the lady said they can't service the vehicle today and i could drop it off. wtf was the point of the appointment then?! what am i supposed to do? uber back to the mountains?! so now im just cruising around with the check engine light on and wasted like 5 hours of my dad and missed a shit ton of work. fuck stevinson chevy yo. all my homies hate stevinson chevy

God damn the traffic engineers and city commissioners where I live are fucking idiots and it's actually not okay.

The roads in this town were made for a population 40 years ago (hell they were laid out for horses). The population here has exploded in the last decade with zero road expansion so the roads are always supp

Got mine serviced there myself for 105k mileage stuff. I think I know the person you are talking about. She seemed like she was in a really bad mood and no one addressed the serpentine belt issue thats squeaking. But the shitty part is that shops in Grand County are super backed-up due to lack of help.

Heard a rumour this week my resort I work at is maybe wanting to go private/homeowner only in the next 5 years as part of their master plan. Kind of lame. Pass prices are already up and as much as a base level Ikon or Epic. It's kind of the hometown ski hill for a lot of people here in a really, really small rural community and lots of the longtime locals love it and have taught their kdis to ski there. We also do Ski Free Fridays for local schools in the area which is awesome to see and its super beginner/family-friendly which is my favorite part honestly. It sucks to see developers suck the blood out of unique communities but I guess that's just how it goes in mountain towns now or it always has been.

Not a fan of the ownership. I still think im on someones shitlist for pulling the Owner's sons pass last year for drunk skiing like a shithead and almost smoking kids.

Profits > people.

Checked Baker cuz I could stay with my sister in Bellingham and they sold out already too.

I do not want to get suckered into a full iKon for just crystal but fuck paying a grand to ski summit

Why is a full summit/Alpental pass a thousand dollars??

That's what passes to decent sized resorts cost before Epic/Ikon got into the game. I'm not really sure what the pricing strategy looks like resorts that size.

Had one of those good dreams that make you feel bad when you wake up last night

Kinda one of those things where you wake up and realize this is a different life and feel incredibly....empty?

I want to return to the days of expensive passes but reasonable prices on mountain. It felt less predatory. Especially as resorts find more ways to nickle+dime you

thanks for the computer dad! can't visit any website without requesting for access from him! literally none, not even YouTube. typing this from my school Chromebook right now, which is already insanely restricted, and yet is infinitesimally better than the thing you just spent 300 dollars on. fuck you 1000x over! I don't watch porn so how about you chill the fuck out!!!

yeah you're definitely right. I just want SOME freedom to live as a normal person. Im more sheltered than the weirdo kid that used to be homeschooled in my grade. and if my dad doesn't want to buy me a computer than that's fine, but DONT buy me one, and especially don't make me pay for half of it, and then give me this shit. he said he would put music on my phone back in ninth grade and I only got it two months ago before my senior year, with the explicit music blocked, even though i've been watching movies with hella swears since second grade, which is so inconsistent. every fucking week for the past 4 years i've had to explain to someone, through their laughing and their horror, why I don't have the internet on my phone. I literally do not have safari. it's wiped off of the phone. I don't have Snapchat, which actually has alienated me from my friends and peers. whatever screentime that was saved by not having social media on my phone has just been spent resenting my dad. and after 4 years of this I'm tired of pretending like it's "objectively good" to not have internet access or social media. I just want to be normal, and I don't know how he thinks I'm gonna adjust well to having complete freedom in college when i've had nothing my whole life. this is like one of a hundred things that I hate about him, it's not just about this.

14630981:SteezyYeeter said:

I think there just needs to be a little better balance. I very much appreciate my dad's attempts to protect me from the dangers of the internet. But I think after a certain point it's hurting a little more than helping. And on a personal level, I really don't appreciate the social isolation that comes with it. I'm gonna be strict with my kids! But I'm also going to try and teach them to be responsible, instead of just revoking everything from them. Idk. I love my dad he is just very annoying a lot of the time.

At what point in time do managers realize that people just work jobs to pay their bills and actually don't give a shit about what they do?

I'm going to counter this. People who don't give a shit about their job make work unbearable for everyone else. If a manager can get those people in line, in my experience it creates less work for everyone else. Fixing simple fuckups is the most draining shit around.

This. When I was first brought on to my current job there was this guy who didn't give a fuck about his job. Dumbass DOUBLE REFUNDED A $12,000 BIKE. How the hell is that even possible. Also had a habit of ordering shit for himself and not paying, smoke breaks every 10 minutes and even going to smoke while in the middle of talking to a customer. Also in 3 months of working there never got close to completing the mandatory training. All employees are expected to build at least one bike a week (except for me, I'm the builder), all the ones he did had to be checked over (loose bolts, shit on backwards. Could barely do a kids bike.) His ass got sacked. To be clear, he wasn't legally slow or disabled in any way. Was a fucking idiot though.

Employers also have to realize how to incentivize performance. If you're in a position with low pay, no benefits, bonus structure, or possibility of advancement, there's no reason to do a good job except for pride which people have in various amounts.
