been so busy i haven’t been able to update y’all with a woflowz wednesday!!!

Sunday will have to do but i’m pledging Chi Phi here, D1 rower and i’m working to join the Bio Honors society!! I’ve been an absolute piss missile of a weapon lately. 4 weeks into school and I’ve kept a 4.0 despite only taking 200/300 level courses at 17. Made the FY A boat, probably gonna be bow of the 2v or 3v once we’re outta First year/upper classman boats. Been on top of all my school work and able to go out saturday nights. ANDDDD i got a job on campus working 4hrs a week as a admissions/alumni relations secretary

these kind of self-degrading jokes are so fucking cringe. if a European said it, yeah, it's their only joke, but it's still funny. but when you, as an american, say it, it's just sad.

Knowing how to read is 1500 SAT privilege. Check yourself, chud

Jk. "Amerifat dumb" jokes are more than played out, especially from self hating Americans.

lol all my parents r paying for is room and board. frats r on campus and u just pay the same room and board then some dues once ur in, i’ll be left to cover that but 1200$ a year isn’t bad at all esp since we have trips and a ton of philanthropy stuff. Few rowers in the house too and some friends outside rowing rushed with me. ngl never thought id join a frat but it’s genuinely an amazing group of guys. everyone skis, mtb’s, hikes surfs etc. We went and built a rope swing off a rail road bridge the other day and just spent the entire afternoon till my practice trying diff flips off of it

nah isnt like college in general a bajillion

We pay a lot more than you would anywhere in Europe. Anywhere from $5k-$50k per year, depending on the school. Mostly because school administrations have become bloated as fuck. But also partially because tuition paying students subsidize people like Wo that get scholarships and dump money into athletics programs

lol i will get paid for going to uni bud.

Just because those two people can afford it doesn't mean that dumping billions into the NCAA's sports-industrial complex each year is good for our country. I bet we could cut tuition by 10% at most D1 schools if they went to club only sports

Yeah, i just said food (though you really only need half of that). You can't live off $800/month and you really shouldn't be expecting the government to fund your whole life anyway.

Government support+summer job should be enough to live trough your study years. In some places here it's not but it should be. Studying is your "job" at the time. You shouldn't need to get another job to stay alive.

it’s just a term for like a sickness that goes around campus after large weekends of partying more or less a bad common cold

Grants and other financial aid were originally a military defense project in the USA. We wouldn’t have enough of a skilled population to draw from if the military didn’t pay for it

It makes sense in your not so smart system. I already have mandatory service so It wouldn't work.

Degree is free here so I'm talking about living expenses. Biggest problem is that jobless rats and junkies get more financial support than students which makes no sense. Government pays around 300€+certain amount of your rent for students+~2€ meal per day. Jobless people get whole lot more. That is not enough to live so you need take a loan or get a job. Job is not an option for everyone. Loan is not great option either. Summer job is the only good way to get more money but there is limits to how much you can make before the support gets smaller.

Personally I'm not going to live with roommates or stop my hobbies so I will probably have to get a job for a whole year and a loan. But in my case it makes sense. Goverment should not be required to support my expensive hobbies.

Assuming you mean roommates as sharing your actual room; living with roommates is an expected part of college here. Almost everybody has to share a room for the first 1-2 years of college. I had friends in more expensive cities that shared a bedroom for all 4 years.

this^^^^ without government subsidies or financial aid, lower income students would do far worse in college. I think this support actually is why we see lots of First Gen students succeeding in school. While middle class students tend to struggle, and ofc upper class students flourish. Really should be studied more imo

We don't have dorm rooms. Each university city has student housing association that builds and owns normal apartment buildings. They offer cheaper rent than anyone else. Some of those apartments are single bedroom. Some are bigger and come with roommates that you can't choose. For certain reasons not being able to choose your roommates is terrible. Getting a single bedroom apartment from student housing takes time if you are local or have access to money that others don't have so you usually have to start with private renting if you are unlucky. Sharing a kitchen and possibly bathroom is not how I roll. Living in a ~20sqm apartment alone is how I roll. I hate people

You need to learn to live with others

I value my peace and quiet more than that. It's the Last thing I'm going to compromise. Downside is lot bigger than upside with having to live with people you didn't choose to live with.

At other points in my life I get to to choose who lives in the same household as me anyway.

It didn't take me 3 hours noob. I'm currently enslaved working in an indoctrinated office. Making a great living thanks to my educated system.
