i don't think AAA video games were ever $20? when i was a kid games were about $50 and when you consider inflation, it's mostly actually gone down in price for a normal game. i'm assuming the COD you're referencing is some goofy limited edition shit or something? not exactly required

When were video games ever 20 bucks?

I mean even back on the ps2 in the 2000s they were 49.99. Adjusting for inflation, games should cost $90.

PS5 games are pretty standard at 59.99 or 69.99. the new COD is 69.99, but I'm guessing you're in a different country and looking at the ultra edition or whatever they're calling it this time.

My point is, video games should cost a lot more if they were going straight off inflation. I hate the in game stores and micro transactions as much as the next guy, but that's probably the only reason games don't all cost $100+.

Half of it is even already a free to play game. COD is cooked

If they just split off warzone and stopped trying to integrate 3 games worth of guns, attachments and perks into one free game I would be so happy.

NBD, just flew half way around the world and can't even get to the ski area lol. In the past they would throw a trailer on a van and pick up several people from Joburg at once.

They got back to me and are trying to get me to take the bus but I have too much stuff. Haven't even started my season and it's already a little rocky ugh

Damn dude. Mad respect for you chasing the seasons! Hope they get you sorted, and the snow is good.

Yeah snow and temps are looing decent so far. Just ready to get into it. At least I got some sleep last night. that was a long day and a half of traveling.

Flight from Newark to Joburg was 14.5 hours. I think that's about the same or almost as much as the flight to Sydney from the west coast.

I'm sure I'll figure it out but just kinda sucks being stuck. Don't have a car and have all my shit with me. Back in the day they used to grab multiple people at a time, van with a trailer on the back and then roll right to the hill.

Seems a little more chaotic these days. Oh well

Def stoked to get some turns in soon and get settled in, get to work.

in the late 90's the good N64 games were $50 always. You could get the shitty ones for 20-30 but those wern't worth the time or money.

Perfect Dark... That game blew my mind Def worth $50.

Well not AAA games for sure, but I used to get games for my Wii for like 20-30$, and the new black ops, which is 6 now Jesus is reported to be over 120 GB and cost about the same.

Just looked it up the standard edition is $96 cad and the “velvet” version is 120 usd which I didn’t bother to exchange but yeah still fucked. And tbh I’m not preordering any game ever again after the BF 2042 piece of shit they called a game.

96 cad is 70 usd so yeah it's creeped up a bit but honestly it's not too bad cause like i said they've been 50-60 for ages. but i hear you, it's a good amount of money. but if it's a game you like and play a lot its price/hour-used gets really good compared to most any other entertainment right?

Yeah, the oldest system I had was n64. Most games were $49.99 so not really any cheaper. Actually prolly more expensive inflation adjusted. They had some shittier games for cheaper but a lot of those weren't very good.

When everyone was upgrading consoles you could find some good games for like $1-7 at eb/gamestop.

I would agree with you, but honestly like for the amount we’re paying I want a product I’m gonna enjoy, feels like just developers and most likely corporations pushing on the developers are just kinda tone deaf for what we actually want, like I would pay $80 cad for a game a game like BF4, but games now just don’t feel as finish or well produced. I think another thing that bugs me is the fact that there are many awesome games for far cheaper too on steam now, and honestly I’ve had more fun playing those than anything else recently.

what's the point of pre-ordering anymore? Back in the day you had to make sure you secured your physical copy before they sold out, but isn't everything downloadable now?

Some games you get some perks if you preorder but yeah for sure I get that. Games would literally sell out and that's all she wrote back in the day

They usually give like exclusive content now, but like companies get the money early now and don’t care to finish the product. It got so bad for battlefield that steam had to change their policies on refunds.

A common practice now is that pre-order will get anywhere from 1-2 days "early access"

When I flew to NZ from Finland, the Qatar to Sydney leg was 14 hours. Jesus that was brutal. The new Finnair route they always put me on is 11h from Dallas to Helsinki. 11H is like my breaking point. I couldn’t do 14 again.

I think west coast USA to Sydney is about 14/15. Was surprised a little on this flight because I was hoping for more like 12. 14+ is def an ass kicker. I rarely can sleep on planes too. Also every movie I picked was shit lol. Long ride.

yeah but that was their gameboy line, gameboy games had always been like $30ish (i know because i was a HUGE gameboy fan lol), i think their main console games were always about the same as ps2 etc

Yeah you’re right those were just the only games I remembered being close to $30 lol

I worked out a deal to pay my rent in installments with my landlord and now I'm helping her with stuff like getting her boat ready for the summer, probably soon to be yardwork, and other misc things. I also think her guests that stayed over this weekend think I'm a housekeeper cuz theres a little tip on the kitchen counter. lol god dammit, being a poor resort worker is never uninteresting. Anything to not get evicted I guess.

Which Mormon family is gonna adopt me? I need a new life, I’ve been joking about being Mormon as way to quit drinking forever aand I’m feeling it more and more but when your social circle and family functions revolve around alcohol so much it’s impossible to get out,

Yesterday we went out with people for dinner, since it’s Father’s Day weekend I decided I’d rather stay sober so I could go to the car meet later at night since it’s my week and that’s what I really wanted to do right? So I was DD for people for dinner last night, but the people especially the guys were being belligerent and inappropriate and starting shit specifically between my wife and I, ruined my whole weekend with drama really. And all I was trying to do was better myself staying sober but it’s not fun dealing with drunks

so what, change my name to xXiHatePowXx? Is that what I do?

Find new friends and slowly fade out of your current friend group.

I used to be in a small-ish school and basically only options for friends were the popular kids group and the really weird kids. During last year of that school I realised that those people were type of people I didn't want to surround my self with. So on a graduation day I just walked out and never saw them again, Never texted or answered their messages again. I have been happier than ever even though I don't have any real friends right now.

I would recommend finding new friends first and not do like me and become a solitary man. Being alone is not bad though If you can enjoy it like me. (I just need new ski friends because my old ski homies found other interests and stopped)

The family one is always tough. I grew up in a family of drunks and luckily my dads been sober for over 8 years, but every family gathering ended up with people getting too hammered, arguments happening, shittalking and shitstirring from other relatives, etc. My grandma and grandpa really gave preference to my uncle and aunt over my dad so my mom and dad had to raise a family of 3 on their own while his siblings got all the love, attention, support, and of course money.

Shittiest part about those kinds of toxic dynamics is they try to prevent you from removing yourself from their social situations by using the victim cards and guilt trip cards. They honestly kind-of detested my Mom and Dad for relocating their family out west and we all went most of our lives out there without any sort of visit from relatives, which in hindsight im pretty thankful for. I don't think my dad has talked to my grandma (including myself) in over a decade. They all still live in our hometown and still do the same shit every single day like it's never going to end and its kind of sad to see from an outside view. Meanwhile, my mom and dad are two of the greatest grandparents ever and are providing the support to my sister they never got when they raised a family.

I feel like everyone around me is going sober or basically not drinking. Kinda shocking how it seems to have happened overnight.

We have noticed the decline in demand for our product. I think more people are quitting alcohol or at least cutting back.

I am equally unsure about getting married— if i ever do there will be no wedding, but a love being a taken an and at least want a commitment ring before getting pregnant again. I love how possessive it is, especially considering I’m likely never getting married not asking for a proposal because it’s more likely to harm me than help.

trains are just clunky boring rollercoasters

The first real rollercoasters were mine trains that free rolled downhill. The companies started to realize they could make a little more money off selling the adventure to tourists. Back in the early 1800s or so, so think those really early trains and almost Indiana jones style. That shit was real!

Kids these days will never know what it’s like to wake up in the morning with people mad at you for doing something that you don’t remember doing, or waking up with your car in the driveway not remembering coming home, or getting robbed while walking around bad areas, or being hospitalized for no good reason, or hell even feeling like you were the one who was raped by an ugly girl, or walking home in a blizzard and getting lost and when two gay guys sitting around their fireplace in their PJs sipping aperol spritzers see you lost in a drunken stupor and try to coax you inside, you’re certain they’re trying to kidnap you, or phone calls/text messages you also don’t remember and regret…

kids these days are going to lack some serious character ?

GayWolf I’m happy your family got away from that situation I feel like my entire transplanted friend group all have been degens in their hometown etc but moving away across country forcing you to become independent seems to be a great recipe for success, I’m hard pressed to think of any of those friends who are truly struggling, despite HCOL around Denver were doing better than those in LCOL who never left and still doin the same shit
