Rant About Whatever

Im trying to disappear again for two days and ski resort laps and maybe drink a few beers. Im broke as shit, my gear is falling apart, I hate overstimulation and just want to be alone after work, but I like skiing a lot solo by myself and thats okay.

My mom needs to call me less it’s incredibly overwhelming. Just because I have a phone doesn’t mean I’m always reachable, and I really don’t need tot all to her 4 times a day when literally nothing is going on. And if i try to tell her I’ll talk to her twice a week I’m belittled and she yelled at. I love my mom but man I am overwhelmed with the constant communication.

Loading toboggans without the spider-claw system that hooks onto the seat of the chair is fucking terrifying. We have to lift these fuckers up and over the backrest and hold-on for dear life as we ride up.

Also fuck Leitner Poma chairs. Im a Doppelmayr guy always.

There's the adaptive skier program here that has all the cool sitskis and equipment.

Well last year I about had a heart attack on lift duty when they almost dropped a loaded sitski off the chair.

Had the lift running at half speed, the two people loading the ski onto chair had him all the way on. Or we thought. He started sliding off as the chair left the ramp. I look back and see the sitski dangling and they're trying to pull it back up. I stopped the lift, ran up- Thankfully not far- and pushed the ski back up onto the chair from underneath.

Im surprised they didn't have some kind of hook or something to hold it in place as soon as he was loaded.

Could that be because companies typically look for college students for internships rather than highschoolers?

Maybe revise your resume, a good resume should get your foot in the door eventually.

I mean yeah that is probably the case if you are looking at any job above a high schoolers ability. Which is pretty much everything.

Ive never heard of highschoolers having internships, and I would never consider thinking of giving a high school kid an internship at all. I could barely handle the stupidity of college students and masters students as my interns. 0% chance I am letting a highschooler touch anything with any shred of importance. Not to mention I am absolutely not going to deal with an employee only being available from 330-5 every day.

Highschoolers are qualified for nothing. Just get a normal high school job that develops skills youll use in the long run like waiting tables or working in a ski shop.

Are you applying for various jobs or more dream career stuff? People def do just lock in for what they want and not take anything till they get it, but sometimes a job is a job. All work experience is good even if not relevant to a job you might be aspiring to.

Def things are more competitive in cities but maybe check out some of the restaurants around you. Can be pt or ft, easy enough to switch between places, and you can learn some skills like cooking or bartending eventually that can be pretty useful in the back pocket.

I guess it really depends what you want to do. Could even try and get into construction stuff. Can stack some $$$ in the summer and be chillin in the winter.

Def hard when you can't find stuff but keep applying. If you're skipping out on some jobs because you don't want to make a career out of it maybe go for one of those.

It doesn't have to be permanent but getting some $$ coming in is always nice. Work experience and a good reference go a long way.

Also try not to burn any bridges even if a place kind of sucks. Shit happens but if you can get a good reference from your previous employers that helps a lot for getting jobs.

Idk if it applies to everyone, but most cities have some kind of programs to help people find jobs. Might just be more if people lose their job and need help finding work, but could give you some prospects and sometimes those programs have more pull to getting a job.

Best of luck though man! Just remember not every job needs to be something you want to do forever. If all you can find is a job that isn't the best it's not bad to do it while pursuing the jobs you want more.

Def look into what employment programs your city has.

Having interns kinda sucks, talking about college level. Someone has to spend their time watching over what they are doing cuz they are often clueless. Unless there is a good chance you will be hiring the person after they graduate it's not worth it. Your pretty much training an entry level candidate that is going to leave in 3 months. We don't do internships often at my job and if we do it's because they usually have a connection or we have a ton of simple shit that needs done that often ends up getting fucked up by the intern anyway.

I was an intern, mostly converting Autocad drawing to 3D and doing light design work. When I started on full time 2 years later I found a bunch of mistakes I made from when I first started interning that I had to fix.

High school level intern in any field sounds dumb and yes the only highschool kids that are going to have "internships" probably have them because daddy owns the company or is high up.

i literally interviewed at mcdonald’s and asked to work 7-11 week nights and weekend evenings and they never called me back. Starbucks never responded even tho i have a year of Customer service at a bike shop, same with two local coffee shops

tbf the mcdonalds one they probably just didn't need help on that shift. Thats one of the most popular shifts due to second jobs being more necessary these days. Plus, idk about in buff but where I grew up there were legal issues with letting anyone under 18 work past 10pm.

Starbucks around me were all notoriously difficult to get a position at, you had to be applying with barista experience. They dont want to train people on how to make a latte and run an espresso machine. Having experience in a bike shop doesnt really count towards anything at there. Plus, there were often 100+ applications for any open positions...... Idk if that was your issue, I just know a lot of people that had that happen. Were all these places actually hiring? Or did you just apply through an online application thing. If it's the latter, you might get a call eventually when a position opens during your availability.

Getting ghosted by jobs is sucks, but the complete norm. And 99.9% of the time it's because someone else had more experience and they filled it. When I was in HS I applied to probably 25ish restaurants. Heard back from one and got the job. Worked there for like 7 years. After my master's degree I applied to probably 75+ positions and heard back from one. 2 years later when I was looking to head back to the Midwest I applied to 3 jobs and heard back from all of them. (though one ghosted after the second interview which IMO is far more messed up than just not calling in the first place lmao).....It gets better my dog.

parents r so stupid. well pay for UW-Madison with 5k off a year but SLU for about 75% off or bates is to much because i’m supposedly gonna fuck off and become a stoner at a liberal arts school

Okay, I’m ready to get back to Idaho. Just got one last family party on Sunday. I love my family, don’t get me wrong, but this is a lot of sitting at my parents house and my dad is wound so tight that he’s kind of unpleasant to be around. Also, no snow in Michigan to go play on.

Been at my parents for a week+ now and it's been nice but I'm ready to go home and shit in my own toilet, this one is way to fucken tall

Call out the dad and embarrass him in front of his wife and kids. Repeatedly harrass him with jokes about how you hope his kids learn to read better than him

No-mercy scorched-earth for shitters that refuse to properly navigate a lift line.

If they're young park rats, ask them if they get extra time on their tests like the other speds. If they're adults, shame them in front of their families.

Best case, they try to fight you and you get their pass pulled

that's insane. going in singles line as a group is already iffy (im personally fine with it) but using it to just skip line and group up anyways is straight up douchey, just fuck with them at that point. also bad parenting for the kiddos.

went through that a few years ago it sucks. How old is dog?

Mine was 10 when she tore her first, got that one fixed and then tore the other a year later. Her first surgery got infected too so that was also not cool. We didn't get the 2nd fixed. Now she walks with mostly her front legs. We didn't do stretches and exercises to force her to strengthen her back legs back up as much as we should have besides walks. If you got any questions I can go into more detail with my experience, vets are hard to talk to cuz they make you feel like shit all the time, we thankfully found a place that was decent.

Sad thing is she’s not even 3, was some freak thing where she fell down the stairs or something, didn’t even see it happen.

im praying it’s not that, heard two different things from other vets, but waiting on a final ortho visit. She walks fine, but the first day she whined up and down stairs/couches. praying it’s just a strain or mild tear at the most.

holy fuck if you piss on the toilet seat CLEAN IT UP. i literally see this guy come outta the stall cos im waiting and there's piss fucking everywhere. next time that happens im yelling at the guy. like maybe a two year old gets a pass, but grown men should have the decency to clean, if for some reason they missed. like blud after 30+ years one would think you'd have learned to control it??

Even if it is the acl if you focus on her recovery and stretches you should be able to get her back to 90%. That's what the vet told me at least.

My dog was already slowing down when she did it so that didn't help trying to get her to use her weak leg. Neighbor has a young dog with a torn acl and you'd never know it.

That’s good news, it makes me feel better she’s acting fine, but don’t know for sure until the imaging is looked at.

Why do Washington State drivers in particular love to camp out in the left lane doing whatever speed feels good to them? Is there a worse state for this? There's like 1000 signs that say "State Law - All vehicles stay right except to pass"

State wasted like $10M on the signs because the problem obviously continues unabated.

Yeah. I had a really bad call that was my first last season with a kid as well, but I just wanted to follow my leads orders. I fucked up because I didn't ask for a witness statement from an off-duty firefighter that was first-on when the crash happened.

I just did this with my dog, went to a community vet and they stitched the ACL together and the whole thing was $900, as opposed to TPLO surgery which was like 3-4k at most vets. The injury sucks, it’s really common and a lot of pet insurances don’t cover the surgery, and it sucks for the dog.

your fuckup was not getting a witness statement? Doesn't seem that bad, at least from a helping people standpoint. I can see why your employer would be pissed but fuck em, if you helped someone to the best of your ability that is what is important.
