i'm thinking of starting a buisness selling rails that i make, i can weld anything and can make any rail from a 's' to a roller coster. who thinks i could sell enough to make a buisness? would u buy some?

u def could sell and start a business w/ rails b/c most paces are overpriced and i would buy if they were cheap enough especially if u can weld and build all of your own rails

 
make summer and winter rails like for skiing and skating, that would be pretty sick... maybe...

probably, but i could do it where anyone in the tahoe area would have free shipping, and anyone else could pay for shipping or find any way for them to get it, I know it’ll be expensive, but what other choice do I have

nvm..i restarted my comp and the site worked..it just dusnt tell prices for any rails..or give much info on rails..its mostly about building terrain parks and junk.

i bet i could give you better prices than those dudes, plus from their site it looks like they only sell in mass, not one by one. probably made more for resorts

railbuilder is more for resorts - their rails a beefed up to withstand years of constant abuse. you wont need that for a backyard rails - although they do make cheaper backyard rails that you can connect and shit to make different kinks and lengths and they strap to a trailer so you can tow them on your snowmo to the backcountry

I'll bet one of your biggest costs is going to be insuring your company so that when some kid smashes himself on your rail and his corporate lawyer parents want to sue you, your parents house won't be taken.

Just make sure you think of that. :)

Being a rail builder could work! You should make some cheap ones for people first, get a feel for what dimensions are best for certain rail models. And you are good from there!

what about a L shaped rail with a 90 degree bend, but gradual bend, like over a 5-7 ft section, and about 25-30ft overall length...i can get you a pic

sorry for gettin your guys hopes up, i probably won't actually start activley persuing a buisness until the middle of this summer. the only reason i posted this thread was to see if i got a reaction and if it'd be worth my while. i'm buying a new mig welder and a new gas one so after that happens i'll make some samples, get a website and we'll be in buisness.

hahaah, this is great....do you have any fucking clue how much it will be to ship that shit? you're charging, what like 125 for a kink rail? i hope you realize that shipping will be a lot more than that if you can even find anyone to do it. and you can't just make up a release...its gotta be legal son. but whatever...best of luck.

Steal is cheap as fuck and making a good weld is an easy task. My dad owns a business called Northwest Structural Services here in the Portland area and all he works with is steel...he make most of his profit building rails for building like the new Adidas Corporate Headquarters (former the Best Kaizer Hospital). I've got access to everything and have made a few rails to skate on. Building rails is WAY cheaper than most retailers make is sound. I've been building rails out of scrap my dad has...usually two pieces of roundbar welded together. Building rails for free means 100+% return. GOOD DEAL. Rails shouldn't be nearly as expensive as they are...sorry for the long and pointless post...LATE

If were pricing my rails to sell I'd be pricing them WAY cheaper than they are...I also wouldn't do the free shipping deal. People want rails and are willing to buy them. As long as prices are low then shipping won't make too much of a difference. I would think about shipping cost to some of the farther locations...then I'd price my rails so that I was still making profit and the price of my rail as well as shipping combined were close the prices that other retailers are charging for just the rail. That way buyers would be paying much less than they would pay for a rail from larger manufacturers...LATE

Im in metal shop at school and we are making rails. I think a good way to charge would be the cost of the materials...then add like 8 to 10 dollars on for every hour of work. That way you are always making profit but not ripping anyone off either.

 
30 for a flat and 125 for a flat down flat kink? thats wrong man, metal is cheap, all you gotta do is take a hacksaw and cut a V in it and weld that together
