i started this as a response to another thread but i decided to go with the full-out rant.

...rails are real fun but don't compare to real skiing (going from the top of the mountain to the bottom mountain for those of you who forgot). theres definately a lot of room for progression on rails, and when theres ice everywhere rails are a good way to enjoy skiing.

however, i think grabs should go. we're skiers, we don't need to grab our equipment when we catch some sweet air. anybody that argues that grabs put you in a good body position can totally suck my koala in a denny's parking lot. truth is you can lean back to grab oppblunt or lean over to grab reverse mute and just not grab. don't worry. your skis arent going anywhere. and enough with the gay "assume the position" truckdriver grabs. seriously dumont and schiller are sick skiers but they don't need to be bending over like prison inmates. knock that shit off. its just obnoxious.

and how about this! talking to a homie a few nights ago we were cracking up drawing lines between the [new]school and the [old]school. wanna bust some wide leg steeze? try a spread eagle mo'fucka. nice shifty, bro! or...was that a twister? i hear gagniers new grab is a daffy doublegrab. wasn't grab man (brad holmes) throwing those back in the infant days of FREEZE magazine (rip). next time you are messin around on the way to the terrain park throwin' nosebutter 3's over rollers- know that you're doing a tiproll. follow it with a polish bagel and claim heavy with a worm turn. back in the 70s the smooth-lazy steeze was called the "slow dog noodle". i can't make this shit up.

lastly, any skiers that think they're badass because the blaze chron on the slopes should spark one up for the 70's freestyle scene, which was fueled by cannabis, pabst, and beautiful women in stretch pants (we should be so lucky today).

i'm going to go find some olin mark Vs and center mount them with some look p14s.
 
oh yeah and i dont know if wayne wong in particular smoked the ganja. that was stupd of me to make that claim... im fairly certain that his comrades did, however.

More like, "casually-worded, general opinion on certain aspects of skiing that you apparently don't enjoy."
 
how could you say grabs are insignificant? grabs are the main reason skiing is progressing. everyone these days throw the same tricks. its all about adding a new grab or adding a different style.

aside from double flips, the actual spins and flips arent changing. its the grabs that are the reason skiing is going to continue to move forward. please dont say grabs are useless.

if we eliminate grabs, we go back to the year 2000; where grabs meant nothing, and everyone hucked tricks.

grabs mean everything!!!!
 
Double tip grabs are for Colby West types. The kid can't turn but he sure is flexible. Tanner, Pep, and Candide never do grabs that are based on flexibility. These skiers epitomize steeze: style combined with ease. Gymnastics look hard, but not stylish. Only one skier makes double tips look good and that is Jossi Wells, because he's so small and flexible that he can actually do the grab without looking like fresh meat in a prison shower.
 
Brad Holmes never did any switch ten crossed up BLUNTED "daffy grabs" your a tool, skiing is skiing ITS ALL FUCKING SKIING, and theres sooooo much different ways to do all of it, shit son thats why its Ill.

I can not believe im backing up MALONE of all people, but hes right, everyone does their own thing, I think 1260s are stupid, but at the same time its sick cuz its hard. Id rather see a cork 3 or cork 5, with or with out grab i dont care its all a part of skiing.and brad holmes never really did shit, I will stand up to that

Him and Palmer headlined the ROxy in there shit band Fungus, and he straigh up fukin rips, misty 9s back flips of huge cliffs you kids that talk shit on holmes are idiots yes he old but he still rips harder than all of you, his pro model was the sickest mogul ski, But ill agree on one thing brad holmes has the gayest rail style ever but he still ripsand was punk before most of you kids were potential cum stains on your mumas face..

Like in Ski Porn extras if you watched "10 years with JP in it" just look at the difference... he would 7 with no grab in 2000-2001 but when it hit 2002 2003 new grabs started to appear and now the grabs are gettign much harder and difficult and as you see in that clip of "10 years with JP in it" the difference from 1996-2006 is unbelieavable thanks to grabs and more
 
Meh, I don't grab because I like it better than grabbing but I don't think it should go. Grabbing adds style, difficulty and originality. To say that you shouldn't grab, that's going against half your later arguement. Without grabs then there would be no one throwing sick tweaked out mute grabs off cliffs and I know you love those.

no fuck you all. i make the rules around here, and if i say no grabs... no fucking grabs!

obviously if you want to grab you can do it, and im sure people will be grabbing for at least 3.67 more years. in fact, some grabs look downright sick. i just think that you don't need to grab to get your body in kewl positions, and people should be more openminded about the sport. don't make freesking an institution. its an art, and we should get wacky.

i totally think we should get wacky. i was talking to travis perkins while i was in park city this weekend and he's talking about his new tricks for comps being very unconventional and no-grabby. he in particular mentioned a cork 9 screamin seamen, which would obviously be off the hook and totally original.

maybe because you suck at grabbing you said that, but honestly if you dont grab how gay would that look? and i love it when peole say all they do is ski big mountain and not park, then you see them in the park on a powder day. Just saying they ski big mountain because they suck at park
 
grabs help you stay balanced in the air and keep you from flailing. And even if grabs are lame, flailing steeze is really lame.

Brad and his insanely cute fiancee live right down the road from me...he skis/sleds nearly every day during the season, keeps an insanly positive attitude and along with shane anderson, KK and several others make up one of the most fun groups of gravity sports enthusiats you will ever meet...

grabs would be lame if they didn't affect the way that you spin. different grabs make for different types/feels of rotations
 
i agree, not to say Johnny Moseley stared the grab thing but he definitly got it out there with the 360 mute.
 
i disagree with this statement. you can still make tricks look different without grabbing. i think that it takes skill to make a trick look good with a grab, but takes a lot more skill to make a trick look just as good without one. grabs and skiing don't go hand in hand. what i'm trying to say is that skiing isn't all about grabs, and sometimes i like the way tricks can look good without them. we need to be more open minded about the possibilities of style and body postition. having said this i in no way think that we should do away with grabs, they will always be a part of skiing.
 
hell yeh Brad holmes rips shit up hes like 35 and a better skier than all you little kids.. moguls are the best thing for your skiing period, Seth , Brad, Candide, Tanner, Tj, Loic Collomb Patton, Henrick they all skied moguls ask them if moguls are gay or not hey will proably knock you out. Moguls teaches you to be a real skier, the best all round skiers on the planet are former mogul skier, yeh most did alpine too and combine that with moguls and you get the best all rounders on the planet period..
