Rails are for pussies

You aren't a good flow rider or you are too scared to catch air so you just hit rails and avoid everything else, you are a pussy. This is really how it is too, we got east coast rail RATS out here avoiding the jumps that have been built and heading straight for the rails. Can't even appreciate the snow they finally have, pooseees.

So I'm not from the ice coast, but from what I've heard about it and the midwest, it sounds like there are a lot of parks with really badly built icy jumps, so they just get really good at rails instead.

Yes, we are (mostly) all afraid to hit jumps for fear of death upon falling.

Yeah if u fall on a jump in the east coast, rip to you.

Considering I suck sucks balls at rails but will hit any jump in my park I find this very untrue

Same. Rails are not my scene. I'll hit most jumps, but busting ass on a long piece of steel doesn't sound good to me

Midwestern’er here. Yesterday morning started with 50F and rain and by the evening it was 18F. It turned the jumps into solid icebergs. So we can either destroy ourselves on concrete like landings....or go hit rails. Or not ski at all...but that’s not an option! But if someone want to hit rails all day, even on a POW day? Go for it. What do I care? It’s their ski season. They can spend it however they want to.

To each his own. Calling folks pussies? I guess it takes one to know one. Or maybe your just a little dick.

I won't entirely disagree with this but I've found more of my friends who are less into park riding are more into hitting jumps (up to the 20-30 footers) instead of hitting rails.

But I'm guessing OP is more referring to people who are actually good and not just straight airing jumps / doing a straight airing safety.

BEING from the east coast I can tell you it went from -70 degree w/wind chill weather with fresh pow to 50 degrees and raining in the span of a week. I prefer doing dumb shit on metal as opposed to turning into a dumb shit when I hit my head off the ice off the 50 footer

Went from 55 degrees one night to -5 degrees the next night up here in the northern east coast, so yeah we don't like to fall on jumps too much. (or rails either for that matter)

Go get some speedy groomer turns

this is like saying 'people show up and avoid the fresh pow' ... sounds like cleaner takeoffs and better landings for you

also, who cares?

Damnnnnnn. OP's NS privileges are revoked for 2 weeks, just got told wussup by Dominator

Hit a couple jumps and be done a run in a minute, or take some chill laps through the rails.. I'd rather ski more than be on a chairlift.

lmao ur either a racer that cant hit rails or ur a nick goepper spin to win fanboy. either way, the jumps in the east suck literal donkey schlong so rails are kinda the only things we have. Sorry we don't feel like getting a hemorrhage from landing on any icy knuckle trying to do a 3 lmao

I have never understood this... Jumps are snow, rails are metal. I always got way more hurt on rails, and friends I have gotten more into jump skiing have all been shocked at how little you get hurt on jumps when you mess up. A well built jump is remarkably forgiving if you have any idea what your doing. If you dont, jump on a tramp.

Im not sure if ur from the east but the knuckles are practically cement. Not to mention that 1/2 the time the mtn dossent know wtf theyre doing so u usually wont have enough speed or way too much. Skill though, rails are most likely more dangerous considering that it takes alot more skill just to hit a rail than it does to hit a jump in my opinion.

Im from Ct so I have loads of experience with shyt jumps but regardless I always get way more fucked on rails. learning the basic jump tricks (back, flat, sw rod, cork etc.) can be done on practically any crappy jump without much consequence. But people kind of treat jumps differently than rails. on rails you dont try to k fed before you can front swap well. People get rocked on jumps when they try a backflip when they can barely 180 and then blame it on jump skiing sucking.

Why do you care so much what other people do? If someone enjoys rails but hates kickers then let them shred their rails, we're all on the same team all we want to do is have some fun

I was the opposite of most of these replies. Growing up I never thought twice about dropping cliffs and hitting jumps but when my mountain started putting in rails the first season I was terrified till I grew a set. Maybe it was because the first few years they were super sketchy and not entry level rails. I suck at rails and know it so only hit them every once in a while. I live in the west so.......

I kind of understand people saying that skiers who strickly hit rails are pussies. I don't hit jumps and when I was younger I stopped hitting them, mostly because I was scared and I wasn't as comfortable on them as on rails, but also because if the Line TC didn't hit jumps, I could do the same thing and be perseved as cool and different, if that makes sense.

The thing that bothers me though with skiing, is that you're perseved as a pussy if you skip a feature in the park, especially a jump, because the feature is kind of "in your way" as your going down the hill. But with skateboarding, you can hit whatever you want, and it's way more accepted if someone strickly skates tranny or ledges, for example.

But I feel like skiing has come a long way, as I don't see much comments like "this guy doesn't hit jumps" anymore, which is a good thing. Everyone should just ski like they want, regardless what others think. As cheesy as that sounds, it's just skiing.

ay dude im so west coast ?, like a bunch of fucking little ? tiny ? rail skiers.. PUSSIES EVERYWHERE ??. Parent's dont even discipline ?? their kids ?? anymore cause they're scared to get sued ?. It's like when I hit rails, I got fucking S L A P P E D ✋? ✋? across the face, fucking spanked ??, belts ??. Dude i was ?? DISCIPLINED ?, so that's why I hit park jumps ?and that's why like I'm passion and all this shit. KIDS ? ARE ?ADDICTED ?TO ?THEIR ?FUCKING ?RAILS? NOW. That's why it is come to this day and age, where a dude my age ?? will pull my pass ?‍and not tell me ?

Fucking ? shit ? is ?BANANAS ?...Shit is ?

Same. trampoline IS skiing in this day and age

Being from the ice coast I can totally agree with op, but in any east coasters defense, we have to get speed on ice, take off on ice, and land on ice. Last time when I landed my knee bones went through my skin, and my head popped outta my ass. The impact alone is enough to scare me off anything that takes me in the air.
