Rail skiing is just a fad

you can say there is only so much one can do on rails, but honestly for as long as i am physically able to do rails, there will always be something new to learn. because most of us arent pro we cant just do any trick imaginable without even lifting a finger. rails will always be there and they arent going anyware.

yeah i love rails but i gotta agree...it can only go so far and then it'll just be kinda gay...as a matter of fact it already is kinda gay...

I think too that rails are here too stay.

For example, Andy Parry and Will Wesson are always innovating.

And LJ's double rail transfert in pretty good was damn sick.

There will always be new urabans ans unseen stuff that will happen. Rails are here to stay.

old thread... i think park rails and lots of switch ups and big spins out will lose popularity, but i could see rail skiing transitioning toward bonk jibs, taps, presses, and creative urban stuff.

three years on and rail skiing is still thriving, i think

plus it's one of the only things that you can do in the city, in your backyard or on the hill, i guess i wan't to say that it links skiing to the urban setting

must you guys ruin a good old thread bump? It's funny to see pages of ranting becasue no one looks at the date. This could have been a good one.

Well, i think its darn fun. I dont care if I throw 3 different tricks all day. Im having a blast. And to be honest, my home hill isnt big enough to fit more than 2 big jumps, which are the most fun in skiing imo, so some people dont have the option to choose.

Two things:
1. Rail skiing is fun. As long as people still want to have fun (which they will, since it's built into human nature), then rail skiing will be there to give kids their daily dose of fun and adrenalin.
2. Rail skiing has plenty of progression left. Maybe the features from Jib Jam at Schweitzer will be become standard: super high rails, with scary-ass gaps onto them and off them. Maybe it'll get more technical, or maybe sw-ups will become bigger. Maybe rails will get longer, thinner, kinkier. Who knows? What is certain is that there is plenty of metal that is still to be slid.

Andy Parry is real good. He should be the only person allowed to ski the way he does. Everyone else just tries and fails, and are nowhere near his level.

why do you even give a fuck? its called freeskiing cuz people can do whatever they want. and for most people that includes hitting rails. and what else do u want us to do when there isnt enough snow for a gap?

You think you're going to be hitting jumps when you're 40? Rails are no more of a phase than the rest of park skiing, and personally, I don't believe park skiing is a phase at all. Sure, we won't be doing it when we're 40, but is there a problem with that? Also, even if we do run out of crazy tricks to throw on rails, they're still fun enough (for me at least) that I don't think they'll die out... And I'd rather watch a smooth kfed than some huge, incredibly sketchy flip/ spin onto a rail....

i just think boxes are retarded. i mean, they're kinda fun, but why so many edits with excessive clips of boxes? nice bump too

hahahaha rail skiing has changed SO much since 2006, i hope one of the OP's can admit that it HAS changed and that people were really creative in doing it.

I spent 90% of last season skiing rails and still learned new tricks everyday. Rail skiing is insanely fun and there is still so much potential. Every year people are doing bigger pretzels and all around steezier tricks. And I bet this year we're going to be seeing alot more Hornbeck styled taps and bonks, and also B-dog inspired 50-50s.

oooooooooooo. thats great. rail skiing is so fricken fun. go do it for a day. once you get it dialed its awesome.

well rail skiing was just a fad for a lot of skiers. but not for park rats like most of you who probably wont really ski anymore in 10 years.

I still don't personally enjoy rails as much as the other aspects of skiing. I have gained more of an appreciation for them on icy days so I guessI can see how you eastcoasters feel. That must suck haha. I'm not gonna lie though I found the rails segments in the movies this year to be incredibly boring, Like the tricks people are starting to do on urban rails are ridiculous... But i still find it boring I can't just sit and watch 15 minutes of constant switch ups and pretzels and 270s on. It doesn't even look good. I appreciate trying to progress the sport and everything... but what's the next thing we're gonna see on urban rails? There were 360 switch ups, multiple pretzels, multiple switch ups... I mean really, there's gonna come a point that you just can't really do that much more and it's approaching quickly.

That being said travelling circus crew and others are doing some cool shit on park rails and boxes, but I don't imagine we're gonna be seeing hippy killers and urban quad kinks.

I can forsee some nollies, nose butters and those types of things in the next couple years, but IReally don't know after that.

This is just my opinion, I've never been much of a rail skier. My home hill pretty much doesn't even have rails. But I gotta say I was not the only one in my group that got incredibly bored with urban rails. It's like watching asian kids play DDR. It's crazy for the first 3-5 minutes

just like sex right!? i've done every position there is, i dont even do it anymore cause it's boring!

Sorry but I have to disagree with everything you said. Just because you cannot imagine what the progression may be, doesn't not mean that it will not happen. Ten years ago nobody could have thought of what people are doing now. The same will be true in another ten years.

ps nice bump

great point.

Thread Creator- i am baffled by how you can even say urban rails are boring. they are all so different. like sure eventually they will run out of tricks but there always different or bigger rails. multiple urban rails in a row. bomb drop then down ledge like in refresh. just use your imagination.
