I like muscle pharm assault. They've reformulated over the years so not as good as it once was imo. It dissolves easily in water, tastes good (depending on flavor), and has a good mix of ingredients (original was more well rounded).
Nowadays pre-workout focuses too much on caffeine so be careful and read the label. A lot are around 200-300mg caffeine but I've seen higher. I prefer 150mg.
The major point is the creatine; it's a necessary cofactor in anaerobic respiration so helps you get those few extra reps, and gains. Pre-workouts usually contain vitamins and ingredients useful in NO synthesis as well.
If you're poor, creatine monohydrate plus some coffee does the trick.
Also gorilla mode folks, I'd probably not take their stimulant pre-workout. They have N-Phenethyl Dimethylamine in their formulation. I can't really find much but it appears this is some kind of a synthetic stimulant. AU/NZ ban it. Shady supplement companies do this all they time; tweak a side chain or toss in a new unbanned ingredient extracted from some random plant with a mechanism of action similar to another. My one buddy literally searches out these things cuz he's an idiot. I remember the whole DMAA craze. It's important to note that the FDA doesn't review supplements for safety; they're put on the market and it's up to the FDA to prove they're unsafe. Also good manufacturing processes are a legitimate concern.
Tldr: stick with the stuff from legitimate supplement wholesalers like bodybuilding.com and even then read your labels!
