Pow skiing overrated?

I really don't think it is. Being in the backcountry is soo much more fun than the park.

But I do know where you're coming from. If someone zero-spins a 20 foot cliff into powder, everyone freaks out and goes nuts, but if someone cork 7s in the park everyone is just chill about it. Personally I think zeros in powder are easier than cork 7s in park. I cant even do cork 7s in the park, I eat shit every time.

POW skiing is where it's at, you can't knock it 'cause most of you haven't truly skied good pow, until you do you're missing out

And why don't you take that big mt. skier and put him on a long jump course. I bet he couldn't do it.

Point being, pow is overrated in the fact that everyone obsesses over it like its the only worth while thing in skiing. Don't get me wrong, I love skiing pow and it is definitely a whole different experience. Getting ready to drop into a deep chute, no one around, just you and the mountain. But pow skiing is just one aspect of skiing. I'm personally stoked on skiing as a whole, lapping the park with friends, ridding pow, hiking out into the backside, hiking a rail, and goofing off on fun features.

So yes, pow skiing is overrated in that everyone thinks its the only worth while aspect of skiing, when really there are so may factors that create a good skiing experience.

Not the best example of a powder part in a movie, but when I watched JP Auclairs part in Ski Porn, the powder part, I almost shed a tear this past week, because to me, powder is one of the main reasons I ski, park doesn't feel as nice, neither does fresh corduroy. Powder is the best thing ever.

pows awesome one year at wisp we actually got like 3 feet it was like almost to my waist i got a tiny taste of powder but i really wanna hit some deep powder

Pow skiing is awesome however I personally get bored watching an entire movie of skiing pow and big mountain lines. I don't think people should stop putting it in movies, there's always shots that are worth putting I just get bored watching an hour of it.

That hike takes you an hour? it's like 10 ft from the top of the chair. takes me like 10 min or so. But ya I love that run, pow or no. I was up there last weekend skiing (and hiking) some of those lines in corn and it was super nice.

Absolutely. Skiing down a 45 degree face for a minute and a half, just hauling, going as fast as you can go, easily worth a 20 minute hike.

i like watching the pro park skiers go into the powder. because they relate more to me in my skiing experience and watching them slay pow is sweet.

watching pow for more than 45 seconds is boring. 80% of what I ski is backcountry, so it's not a matter of relating to powder snow. Skiing pow is fun, but I watch ski movies to see crazy stuff. Big mountain = crazy. BC booters = crazy. Urban = crazy. Park = crazy. And many of the typical "pow shots" in movies aren't that crazy. After 45 seconds, the funness of watching chest deep powder wears off and it's time to get back to crazyness. And anything really crazy in pow seems to involve cliffs or booters or sketch lines. Plain pow is just boring in large doses.

i am by no means a pow skiier. i ski in VT and spend 99% of my time in the park. i am just saying, pow is not over rated, and if someone can ski pow and drop cliffs chances are they can do some tricks on jumps and slide rails.

you lucky ass bitch!! i dream of living there. and no, powder is not at all overrated. in fact i can proudly say that powder skiing is probably the best thing thats ever happened to me.

just take pollard as an example. Powder is not overrated. He does everything in the BC, and it looks so damn fine. I'd take pow over park any day. Pow doesn't just mean riping lines (which personally i think is soooo much fun), but it can mean cornice drops, pillows, tree-jibs, gaps, and booters.

Just being away from the park is so refreshing. Skiing through untracked pow is the best feeling ever. period.

Watching it though, you need people with creativity to make it look cool. Again, pollard is the perfect example.

Park is under rated and Pow skiing is straight up boring .... soo yeh all you kids go ride park and leave the Big mountains to the REAL skiers... more pow for me

well if you live in the east coast with no good powder. then dont go out and say its overrated

its like saying that downhill bikings over rated when you live in the praries or a desert.

By far the most fun thing to do in skiing, but watching it is pretty boring and makes you sad you arent there. Park is way more fun to watch and less fun to ski (but still real fun).

id ski pow any day over park, but the park is more accesible and pretty much always there. pow days are kinda like a paycheck, you don't get enough of them

im going to have to agree with [e]heaths post on this here. skiing down 3-4 feet of powder is hard.i dont know about others but for me, it burns the legs and its worth every second.

go enjoy your corduroy

yeah i sort of agree powder skiing is mad fun but also mad boring to watch. if they start skiing it like pollard then they got something

for me, since i ski ice all season long. i chomp at the bit to get a chance to ski real snow and 6 feet of fresh. which i can say i have only ever had the pleaser of doing it 2 times.

every year i go out west and ski pow for 3 days and its the best time i ever have skiing

but as for movies, i dont enjoy it all that much if theyre not gonna hit a cliff or anything, except for pollard, i could watch him do anything and be happy

ever heard of helmet cam? i guess straight cliff lines can get boring to watch................for 35 hours straight! i dont think powder will ever get boring to watch, but maybe they come up 2 much. they havent yet, tho.

The other thing about powder, for me at least, is that towards the end of this year, I started playing around with spins and tricks off of random stuff while skiing pow in the woods, and to me that was so much more challenging and fun than the same stuff in the park. Call it cliched, but taking park tricks into pow is a lot of fun.

Powder is fun. Park is fun. Skiing is fun. Why cant we all just get along and have fun?

Seriously. Why does everyone have to compare powder skiing and park skiing against each other. Sure powder days are epic and awesome and that feeling you get when you slide across a fresh blanket of snow is uncomparable to anything else. But at least for me the feeling of sticking a new trick in the park is just as great. My point is that skiing is a recreational sport and really is just designed for personal enjoyment. Maybe this kid isnt very good at powder, and so what if he lives on the east coast. There is nothing wrong with skiing park and there is nothing wrong with skiing powder. Who the fuck cares as long as your having a good time?

that depends on the three second maneuver. I dunno if any pow line I've skied has quite compared to my first 360.
