Potential enough for an online ski site.

So heres my question to you newschoolers, admins especially. If

Enhanced media, an up and coming ski film company trying to bring a fresh new style into the ski film industry. A company documenting the fun had while enduring our sport. A company who refuses to follow the norm and try to show people in the industry the direction they think skiing should be going. A company so commited to the sport that they have been bankrupt on numerous occations just so they can make the film tickle their fancy. Obviously no potential there right guys.

Ski Porn, a very poorly put together movie. Corners cut to make a few extra dollars. Music stolen from msp's already crappy playlists. They dont care what direction the sport goes, just throw some shots together and sell it for outrageous amounts. Dont get me wrong the skiing was sick, but fuck pbp their potential to make an enjoyable film was lost years ago. This my friends is potential enough for newschoolers.com.

I thought we were an online community, working together to better the sport. I guess not. I thought we were here to help the little guy and get him on his way to the big times. I guess not. I thought we were here to support and constructively critisize areas of our sport.

Weak sauce newschoolers, fuckin weak sauce.

hmm, 3 above posts, and no one understands. Make that 4 posts, and 4 people dont understand.

i hear ya keegs. shits fucked up. hey if you dont think they have enough potential maybe try helping them out by putting a interview on your site. im sure there were plenty of people who were saying that newschoolers didnt have any of pontential but now look at it. give it a fucking chance man

so what can we do?

boycott ski porn?

what riders does enhanced media have?

what soundtrack?

ski porn may not be the best vid, but what does enhanced media's offering have for us?

I think they coulda put it up, she spent some time writing that article...mainly they could have put it up and let people pick their opinions on EM...

that whole article was more like this; "this movie sucks, that movie sucks blah blah blah all ski movies suck except for ours and our ns.com buddies'. fuck ns.com's mods but everybody who we didnt call stupid for liking all the godawful movies made this past year by people with as much experience in the business as we are old, you should check out our AWESOMELY cool friends, they really do keep it reall and are the essence of what a skier should be blah blah blah blah blah"....i wasnt a fan of the article and im certainly not a fan of how you people over at EM think that what everybody else in the movie business is doing is wack and for somoe straaaaange coincedince those people who are doing everything wrong is making a legitamate business out of it that should actually be respected. get the fuck out of high school and into a world where htere is more beyond what is sitting on your desktop computer. people need to make compromises sometimes in movies so they can actually get a paycheck to live off of you fuck....you might think your lil high school buddie movie is going to make a world of difference "if only..." if only you could stop bitching from the back corner of the room pussies.

who the fuck are you

ohh i'm sorry you all high and mighty dumbfuck

you graduated No Way! get out of here thats awesome, did you hear that guys he graduated. Thats amazing i certainly wouldnt have expected that.

So some of us have a vision of what we want skiing to become. Do we not respect other ski movie companies? Are you crazy of course we do. Would we change the direction the sport is going at the moment? Maybe. Are we going to? No. Should we be able to voice our opinions and potentially better some of the flaws in the current ski movie industry? Certainly.

Its people like you (douchebags) that need to shut the fuck up and look at another persons perspective for a second. You dont like it? Fine. You wanna buy ski porn? By all means do it support the riders, hell i even bought it (but that doesnt mean i have to like it).

So we have yet to graduate. You think age is an issue here, clearly you are some useless dumbfuck sitting at his computer living with your parents at 35 ragging on kids hoping to one day MAYBE make a difference, or guide someone in the right direction. Man you are so RAD.

So give yourself a hearty pat on the back and a friendly fuck you from all us at EM and our "AWESOMELY cool friends".

I will admit that I made some unwarrented claims.

I would like to attribute it to inexperience, and went over the top with my enthousiasm for what enhanced media is trying to do. I did not consider that Newschoolers had to put their name on this piece of writing when putting what can only be interpretted as personal bias into the article. At the time that I submitted this for revision, I didn't think that I was saying much more than 1) Enhanced Media is truly dedicated to skiing and 2) They're *trying* to break from the standards created by the industry.

It did not come out as smoothly as I wanted. I was hoping to recieve suggestions for improving it, which I did not recieve until a full two weeks after submitting it, a day after I was told it would be posted.

I did work pretty fucking hard on that though. To see something you put alot of effort into not be valued by someone else was a good learning experience I guess, and it hurt like a motherfucker, especially after being led to think that it was good enough.

I don't think it was personal hatred for enhanced media, but more so my fault for allowing personal feelings to be pushed on to readers. Matty and Julian encouraged me to post it regardless, so I put it in my blog.

I'd still like feedback, aside from it being too long (agreed) and sometimes unwarrented (also agreed.)

Wait what? Keegan, I'm confused here; when was there any hate on EM? and who claimed that they have "no potential?"

And fireunderwater, was there any hate becasue of your blog entry? huh? Keegan, i think you should tell me whats going on.

the administration does not feel that enhanced media has enough potential to have a front page story on this site.

its ridiculous...

My blog entry was written FOR ns.

I started writing it a month ago, after asking to be the one to do the interview which originally was going to be done by someone else.

Yesterday, the day I was told it would be up(having submitted it two weeks earlier and recieving no other feedback), I was informed that "the em crew doesn't have enough potential to live up to the words I wrote about them."

In anger and disappointment, I mentioned this to Matty as I felt it was something he should know, and he asked me to put the article/interview in my blog, so I did.

maybe just maybe you could have not started this stupid thread and acted like a professinal business person and took what the admin here said to you to go out and work harder to get to the point where they might create a story for you instead of calling them out and pissing the people that could one day support you. Your first mistake could now be the end of you, you have to work your way up in this industry and there isn't enough room to start making enemies with anyones. I don't know much about your company but I do know enough that this isn't your solution by creating a thread like this and you probably just shot yourself in the foot.

I don't understand why they couldn't just put it up. What would it do, bump that super old "NS RADIO INTERVIEWS JF CUSSON!" off the main news bar? Big fucking deal, everyone who was interested in that has checked it out already.

It's really stupid that they refused to support the people who support and make this site a functioning community. Really lame, guys. Lame.

powder99 you are right in a sense as far as not making enemies goes, but thats not what we are trying to do. and i am not saying i will never be happy with the site again, all i'm saying is that i think its dumb that they would turn on there word because they dont have enough potential, like.. WHat!?

"It's really stupid that they refused to support the people who support and make this site a functioning community. Really lame, guys. Lame."

that right there pretty much sums it up.

I totally see where your coming from, you do have a valid point its just that being able to walk away with your head high and prove to them what your potential is, that gains respect in this industry everyone starts as an underdog and its the ones that push through and use the critizism for their own advantage are the ones that make it. Im not saying its to late just go out there and keep on what your doing and if its as good as you say it is you wont have any problem recieving the attention you deserve. So many kids are trying to start up film companies that I can see where the admin can be hesitant putting your company on the site, are you even reg as a company? show them how seriose you are by properly setting yourself up, it takes a lot of work but is whats needed to put yourself above the rest of the smaller companies trying to make it

Did you see their trailer ? It was fucking sick...

I don't understand why their interview wasnt allowed to get onto the front page as a press relese or even in the news section.

Not news as that is supposed to be unbiased.

Press release, maybe. I've seen shit on there that mattered WAY less than this. at least this was well-written, unlike half the stuff that makes it to the front page.

when I come to nelson in the winter season, I will march into which ever store is selling that production, and buy it. Companies Like Enhanced Media and The Newman Administration are what Is lacking in the ski industry. I dont give my grandmothers spatula about a corked 810 to rail. I buy movies for the vibes such as Jibopoly's (riddled among snowboard videos). These are the companies that I want to support and encourage a movie for next year. Im totally with Shermy on this one.

i dont get it, what are we arguing about, personnaly, i dont watch ski movies for the "artsy" aspect of them i just like seeing some dope stuff, like its nice, but really, who the fuck cares if some shots are like "asthetically appealing, skiing is the art, not the fucking camera angles, is everyone going fucking emo or something

for all those kids who didnt get it you're just dumb that was all very clear, i hate to be a dick but it's the truth

if you make a movie and dont licience music and claim your a real company when you arent, dont expect people to take you too seriously until you put out something that people agree is a good product. Make it for fun dont worry about selling it.

Keegan, calm down. There were some misunderstandings and some things were screwed up.

Laura explained most of it so just let it be. NS loves the EM guys. Dont get them wrong.

If your trying to get respect and be professional, calling people "douchebags" and "dumbfuck" is not really the right direction to go. It kind of makes others view less of what you are trying to do. Just my two cents, but sweet trailer non the less.

This sounds an awful lot like the discussion that took place in the Cream blog not too long ago...

YUP.

So much for everything EM has supposedly been working for. This kind of poorly thought out bullshit is the nail in your coffin Keegan.

you, sir, are a dumbass. you obviously dont know who EM is. just because he has e.m. in his signature doesnt mean he makes their movies... otherwise i could put "matchstick productions" or some shit in my sig and everyone would complain to me about the shit they do.

Hey guys, just got this message from kamikaze and i thought it might clear some stuff up. I hope he doesnt mind me poting this but it makes me feel alot better about the whole situation. Thanx ethan.

kamikaze*$$ --> keegan.*$

"Hey man,

It was my decision not to run Laura's article. That had nothing to do with Enhanced Media "not having enough potential"; instead, it was based purely on the standards that I'm trying to impose for articles on the front page of NS. My job is to see to it that our news is professional, well-written and relevant to the whole NS community, and unfortunately I just didn't see the article meeting that standard.

I spend a lot of time thinking about how to balance our content equally between "big," professional news stories in the league of our print brethren and other pieces highlighting the projects of our members, and in no way do I want to turn down or not encourage the projects going on in the NS community. But honestly, I don't know anything about Enhanced Media, and at the moment, as a news editor, all I have to go off of is one teaser and some hype in the forums. With only that to go on, I don't want to run an article like the one Laura wrote, which contained some pretty harsh criticism of the hard work that a lot of other people put out. Whether that criticism is due or not (and believe you me, I agree with almost all of it), I can't run something like that without knowing anything about EM. I am honestly floundering with requests from smaller video companies every single week to run a press release about their trailers, to put their premieres in the calendar, etc. ad continuum, and just about every single one of them likes to talk about how unique they are. Plain and simple, I can't run an article talking about how revolutionary Enhanced Media is without having even seen the film yet.

Thanks for taking the time to read all of this, and I apologize that this didn't happen in a way that would have made sense to all of us. I've been really busy and when Chris forwarded me the story, I put it on the back burner and forgot about it for a few weeks, which is why it took so long to get a response back to Laura. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, and I'd also love to see the movie!

Best,

Ethan"

im glad it got cleared up, becasue i kinda agree with you, even though some big companie movies are sick, i get more stoked when i see smaller companie movie, cause then i think to myself, "holy shit, if they can do it, so can i"

i did like lauras article though, it was pretty good, but i agree with kamikaze, i wouldnt put something on the front page of NS without knowing what its about

all is good on NS again

maybe waiting untill you heard the full story from the person behind it might have been a good idea, but its there for everyone to see now i guess

I bumped this to the second page of this thread, because I know that it gets read more.

The above point made here is something that I want ALL of you to read, and REALLY think about. Wait until you sort something out with the truth before making inflammitory statements in public. I will re-post what Kamikaze (Ethan) said to Keegan:

So as you can see, there was a perfectly rational explanation. If someone wants to be a journalist, they have to get used to REJECTION. This is the way the world works, and how quality comes about. When your story gets rejected, you're supposed to work on it, tweak it out and re-submit again and again until you find out what makes a good story.

In this case, instead of trying harder to improve the story, there was just public bashing on us. I recieved a message from Julian this morning apologizing and seeming unhappy that his company's reputation had just gotten dragged through the mud. Keegan and fireunderwater, you both took this way too personally and blew up about it too quickly. This is the same reactionary tone that made the article get rejected.

The fact that NS is around so that you have somewhere to even have a CHANCE getting published is amazing. Think if we weren't here, and you were sending your article into Freeskier, Powder or even SBC. Think how many articles they reject every DAY.

NS is a place where you can hype yourslef up, where you can share your message of skiing with the world, a place where a small production company like EM has a chance of getting noticed. I would really appreciate it if people would stop attacking us for anything we do.

I mean think about this situation:

Article got rejected and a perfectly good explanation is above. Fireunderwater put it in her blog with a tagline at the top taking a HUGE shot at the NS admins. What did we do? Posted it on the frontpage of the site. Keegan then makes a thread tearing us to pieces. We could delete it, but no we want people to be able to express themselves. The EM guys are feeling terrible, the NSadmins are feeling terrible, everyone is feeling terrible, and here I am spending this much time writing a huge response.

Why? Because we give a shit. You guys can't even imagine how harsh the ski world would be without NS. Imagine having a small production company? Who is EVER going to hear about it? I mean even to get one half-page ad in a magazine is going to cost you at LEAST $4,000. Article about your production company? Fat chance... you've got to buddy down with the mag publishers. TV ads? Don't think so...

Just where would you get started if you didn't have NS?

---And for anyone reading this please, please, please STOP hating on the admins publicly before you've tried to sort it out with us. If you feel PMing or email won't suffice, our phone number is 514.448.2760. We live here, so give us a buzz and we'll chat about your beef.
