Wouldn't that take like 20 minutes max

like 10 minutes even. He got away with it for like 4 hours before management came and yanked him off the hill. They ended up changing the specific wording of their pass agreement to prevent anybody else from doing that in the future

does anyone want to go skiing in SL area before alta opens, I left the east coast, then they moved opening day back. Not sure what to do with myself if i’m not skiing.

Is bonezone open?

what stuff is worth touring for rn?

Kudos to him, he had the balls to do what I want to do at a local 230 ft bump. Same situation; nothing in the code to say you can't go uphill. And they won't answer my formal and informal requests to acknowledge that people want to do it. You could actually be faster than the lift at this place, and the skiing is so shite it would be a way to make it fun to go there.

one of my friends decided to skin up our 300' vert Ohio ski hill because he didn't have a pass lmao

there is a big group of people that skin up my local hill (600') every Saturday and Sunday morning before the mountain opens. Dudes get there at 5am skin up a few times then are drinking in the parking lot by the time the lifts start rolling. I like to refer to them as the "skin heads"

Touring hot laps for 4 hours prior to 9 am day drinking sounds pretty fun ngl

Care to elaborate?

It's better in most ways except pricier. Warmer per weight, better for allergies, softer, stronger, dries quicker, higher sustainability. It's difficult and expensive to find products that don't contain synthetic fibers tho. High price likely comes from lower demand and less supply, combined with how it's produced from smaller companies. A lot of sellers I found were small companies from South America. This was one of the few companies (US based) I found that offered 100% alpaca products, but they're wicked expensive https://appalachiangearcompany.com/

Finding unbiased info is challenging too. Apparently Angora fur is the warmest fiber but also sketch how China produces it.

I went down a rabbit hole the other day you could say.

Merino wool is still the shit for a lot of uses, including the wool/synthetic blends that Darn Tough Vermont makes. I doubt I'll change, but having a poncho, blanket, or piece of clothing made from baby alpaca wool (fur grade, not age) would be legit. I'm actually kind of shocked that Patagonia doesn't have alpaca wool products just given their history and supposed mission.

Yeah there was a local alpaca wool company in SD that had such nice shit. It was expensive, and im pretty sure only sold out of a climbing store, but damn that wool is nice. I wonder if they are still around.

I'm slowly switching all my river clothes over to merino wool from polyester. Stinks so much less.

Anyone know what the first Vishnu topsheet was?

First one I can remember was they were all black with a grayish v logo on one tip. I remember Dylan telling me that they were made in the Ramp skis facility and that they fell apart too easily so they were looking for another place to produce them. They might’ve had wooden sidewalls too, it was around 2014 and 4frnts skis that were produced in the salt lake valley had wooden sidewalls too. Then the red/maroon ones with the all over dead fly logo that this years pluses are paying homage to came out the following season iirc

Got boot fit today for the first time and dropped a bag on a pair of Nordica ProMachine 120s that fit my feet beautifully. Thank god for the vail employee discount. Gonna do custom inserts too. Stoked to finally have a pair of high performance boots that fit me, not loosing my toenails this season

i think your gm was in my wedding party. hell of a dude! the marriage was terrible but hell of a dude ? stoked to see him in that role

those discounts are huge. theres a lot vr can improve upon but they do seem to be putting effort into the employee experience.

Yeah I really can’t complain at 20 bucks an hour and 40 percent off sale price for one day of park crew a week

I've been catching up on all the edits / films coming out. My sister was at my house, watched for a bit, and asked how all these homeless lookin people got into urban skiing.

Also at the shop last night I brought in all my skis to get adjusted to the new boots. All were good except my Nomad 105 lites that have old ass tyrolias on them that werent grip walk compatible so new boots wont work. Also pretty sure theyre on their third mount rn. Trying to decide if i should pick up cheap bindings and remount them, or start building a tour setup since they are supposed to be a tour ski

Is bonezone open?

what stuff is worth touring for rn?

The bonezone has been open for over a week now. It was getting pretty haggard lately with the warm temps and they reduced their hours to 10-3pm. I haven't been back since Saturday. I've heard people are touring Alta, I can link you up with some girls that do that stuff if you want, I don't have a touring setup myself. Woodward is opening this Friday, just the magic carpet, but I usually like their early season rail setups. Solitude will be open but it's just moonbeam and link, link has some rails setup on the side of the run which are nice.

Hey! TY for the info :)

Any connections or pointers would mean the world to me! Feel free to message here or Dm on instagram :))

here are my thoughts on some current ski brands

After being ridiculed for making influencer skis and having dogshit durability, Line is clearly making a big move to win back the NS demographic. Daycare fucking rules and new tc episodes are sick too. We will see if the new chronics are actually more durable, but I really hope they are. In any case, it’s dope that they care about this community and it proves that NS and street skiers aren’t as insignificant as some people on this website constantly insist.

I’m starting to miss the early days of Vishnu when they released team videos every season. Tears of Joy was dope, but it also feels like they are relying on CL for a lot of their clout these days. Young snow was a weird choice for pro model, no hate but I also don’t quite get the hype, especially compared to cal. Would like to see Vishnu release something a little out of the box, this brand was built on being edgy and it’s starting to not feel that way.

Still haven’t seen a pair of 1000s. I have however seen a few pairs of jetskis, and there is a very high chance this brand blows up like crazy after they release their 5 year project, cause we all know that shit is going to be nuts.

ON3P is fucking back in a big way with on3p6, they continue to make IMO the best skis, and they should really follow it up with on3p7 sometime mid winter. Churner was sick too. Love that they are releasing and supporting content but in a little more of a lowkey, understated way. It’s a good look and shows confidence in their product.

Armada needs to make a street video like daycare. I feel like they have to at this point. It would go insanely hard, maybe throw some bc in there too and make a proper well rounded video. They can and should do it. Kinda tired of seeing them find like 6 small projects, tell Sammy c e dollo and bdog to hit a bc booter together I want to see that!

I actually think this is "based real and true". You are dead on with the brands right now.

ON3P has a big following at alta, and that is why they will support drinkbutter every year its passed down. ON3P will continue with great content without "the bunch".

1000s tried to come in at alta, and they stole a couple skiers but those skis are going to fall into the r/skiing 20 days a year category. Classic hackel chasing girls that can get IG views.

I miss a vishnu team edit, CL was sick but like we need the old shitty shit.

Line, hopefully is caring about our community. If not they will fade into the realm they have developed "shit durability; fun skis"

anyway, my general response is hell yeah i love when people ski in such a way that you fear for their body, that's why they (don't) pay them the big bucks. that was a sick line ^ right there

damn i just watched the rest of that edit and kai (and colby) fucking slay

is it just me or has the redbull upside down rail pretty much already been done in street segments a ton of times?

i also felt like emmet should’ve given max a couple years, always felt like garret or Egan had it. but it’s not a bad move at all, he is still super young and very talented, much potential. line has some interesting pro choices imo

armada is making a team video this year

It totally fits with jetskis marketing strategy (bro, it’s anti marketing bro, skis sell themselves bro etc etc) also I imagine that most of the guys behind the project also worked on zootspace. That’s a hard project to follow up. I’m really stoked to see it

I couldn't agree more. Also, it's really nice that they and Line have co-supported Hazard Network's Gusto movie, that's the kind of project we want to see. And we want more Dani-B in the street!
