Polar Bears = Threatened Species?

inconvenient truth actually only touched on the matters. it was the smallest introduction to the biggest most pressing topic.

there have been much warmer periods in the recent history of the Earth, before industrialization, and the polar bears survived then, so why are we worried about them now?

because people think that humans are causing the ice to melt, so they feel that they should save them

why, do you believe that all organisms have a purpose? If so, that would be pretty fuckin amazing, as you would claim to know the purpose of life, like God or something.

actually social darwinism...just refers to economic status in human societies...and darwin never said "survival of the fittest"...but what your getting at is natural selection...and why people want to save the polar bears is becuase the reason they are dying isnt beleived to be "natural" since its supposedly caused by carbon emissions from unnatural things...like cars/industry etc...so yea...

On top of that most of the stats in that video are not stats at all, most of the information given is based off of what has happened and what is happening, and he hires scientists to make projections on what will happen. So most of the information in the video is just based of the projections.

people, please we all know that polar bears are cool animals, where would coca cola be w/out the polar bear mascot? forget about survival of the fittest beauce that should not be applied to animals that have declined because of human activity, but only should be apllied within a fair boundary. yes polar bears are now endangered, and something should be done about it.

Hey, so first off, gore was very wrong, if you look at the book that the movie was based on he sites one source the entire time, all his figures are based on worst case scenarios, the rate that he mentions is in the 2-3% realm of possibility, I could go on, I just took a 400 level class basically explaining why he's wrong, and to the polar bears, read this week's Newsweek, although their numbers are low they are being listed as endangered on the basis of what will happen to their environment in the subsequent years and also to use as a political tool by environmentalists (the same people putting them on the endangered list are lobbying for other green causes and they are using it as further reason to support their points). Not to say that this isn't an unfortunate event, just that its not quite as volatile as is seems at the moment. Polar bear pops have been dropping noticably for around 15 years, but just like the Sudan genocide (which had been going on during the one in Rwanda although media seemed to ignore it) it just took time to become the activist fad.

you are straight ignant. polar bears are going extinct because of the encroachment of the human race on the bears natural territory. their adaption is what is getting them killed. up in barrow, polar bears get killed pretty often for wandering into town and eating garbage and getting too used to people. thats not the bears fault that white people colonized the land that they have always lived on. the natives have coincided just dandy with polar bears for centuries.

my rebuttal is as follows.
that recently discovered indian tribe in south america is in the same boat. they are weak and therefore dont "deserve" to live because there is no way they can adapt to the changing environment that is the deforestation of their habitat that they have lived in for who the hell knows how long.. fuck them, if they cant learn how live in a city then they should at least learn how to dig their own graves because there is no way modern people will do it for them..

my former coworker said this once about polar bears:

"who gives a fuck? no one ever sees the damn things so who cares?"

now, in all seriousness, polar bears are fucking awesome animals.

I will not refute that An Inconvenient Truth has some incorrect information/factual data. But unfortunately, it IS fact that currently, global warming is occuring and it is caused by man burning CO2. That is virtually undisputed by the scientific community.

The fact that a community of skiers, a group that depends so much on the weather and snow, doubts global warming (and/or that it is caused by man), is pathetic.

I guess ignorance is bliss.
