me and like 6 of my boys are pledging this frat up at school...

how bad do you gusy think its going to be? anyone brothers in here wanna let me in on thier experience.
 
its going to be gay. Thats why I don't do frats. Its paying for friends and is a huge sausage fest and most frat guys are sketchy
 
haha its not bad till you get to "hell week" alot of schools call it help week or some bullshit cuz of lawsuits.

we had to learn a bunch of shit about the history of the fraternity. the greek alphabet of course. alot is fun and games but all houses do it differnt.

it was fun making alot of new friends but paying $500 some for 3 months is just rediculous. that includes nothing, no beer, food, fun. that is just dues for the house and shit.

so i got out and stuff, but i liked the environment, just dont have the cash
 
haha well said!! You can go to the parties anyways for like $5. I know people that r in them, and they say it wasnt to bad. It depends what frat u r going into too.
 
thats what i thought but the frat we are pledging is insane, its the best one up here, hottest sororities party with them all the time...

its not paying for friends, all my friends and i are goign to run shit in like a yr. so its not like that at all
 
yea i heard about the cost but we have a record pledge class so it shouldn't be as costly, what happened in hell week for ya we def have that here
 
you HAVE TO PAY no matter who you are. there is upkeep on the house, lawn, events blah blah blah... trust me ur not gonna run shit, you may be president but you still pay and have to make decisions with everyone
 
yeah, its not worth payin just make friends with the people that are in one and then get hooked up with the parties
 
what so 6 of your buddies can't act as your wingman at parties? wtf. thats what friends are for. they help you if you have no game.
 
i def have game, ive been with alotta girls up here, all of us do...

it's going to be just an insane time with all the kids i like chilling with, and then more girls for us...why not

i talked to the founder and he said it really helps you out in the future when you're applyign for jobs and things like that, the alumni is really spread out and can hook you up...idk you guys would just have to experience the parties and the people before you diss it, but i know the stereotypes your thinkin of
 
uhh dude i was in ATO for 6 months and decided not to go through hell week and focus more on school. i have been at college for 3 years around te environment and i was fucking around campus a year before i came. so its been 4 years to your 0 years of expierence. shut ur face and just make a fucking decision on your own for once.
 
Don't worry about your "hell week". It will all be worth it in the end and as long as you are in a respectable chapter of a respectable fraternity, you won't have to do anything that would go against your morals. Don't listen to the greek system haters, its not for everyone.
 
depends on the frat, really, thats what it comes down to. If your dues have a lot included, like alcoohl, living ,etc, do it, some frats are retarded though. Get into one with a good rep too, not just one that parties ahrd. Look out for your reputation.
 
The frats on my campus suck dick. They water down the alcohol and run out of cups every night, its completely retarded.
 
living is never included dude... i mean usually not cuz a house can be 90-100 people or more and most houses only hold 25 people or so. so they make you pay normal rent on top of dues.

and i have never heard of alcohol included, besides the big parties planned. if your drinking any other time it out of pocket. so ya big planned parties are free and cool but most the time its gay and out of pocket.

but yeah food and events are paid for, which is cool
 
well, the ones at my university are shit, but at my cousins, its a 50 person hosue and living and and alchool are invluded, the yare sponsored by miller though, so alcohol is cheap. I think you kind of have to shop for the right frat.

all fraternities are different, and for that matter, a lot of chapters of the same fraternity can be really different. If you like the guys who are active, and like the guys who you are pledging with then go for it.

as far as the costs go, talk to the treasurer, they should be able to break down where all the dues go. As far as pledge dues go, usually at least half go directly to HQ for administration bullshit. Its done on a per-person basis, so a huge class likely won't help much.

And good luck with finding out what happens in hell week. They are different wherever you are, and not many people talk about them.
 
so who gets more respect? the person who goes through the whole process even when they dont want to because of peer pressure and the status that comes with being in a frat, or the person who backs out because they no longer agree with what the frat stands for? i say number two. frats at my school are sketchy at best. but if you like being forced to drink every time you dont know one of the brother's second cousin's mother's maiden names or something stupid like that, then by all means, go for it.
 
...join up if the people are cool. Find the fraternity that has members who are genuine and feel it out. If you think the members are sketch than quit, no harm. I joined one because I thought it would enhance my college experience, and it did. I went on so many roadtrips, ski trips, etc., and have so many crazy memories, I won't ever regret it. Dues pay for events, parties, all sorts of stuff. Do you really think that everyone in every fraternity is shallow enough to believe that they pay for their friends? You can make 600 freinds in college if you're even a little bit outgoing, but you'll never have all the opportunities a fraternity will offer you.
 
im in ZBT at Umass and its fun as hell dude...you pay dues every semester for a bunch of things, but mainly alcohol and parties. plus you become best friends with a bunch of people and make really good connections through alumni...go for it if the brothers are chill
 
thanks, yea the frat that want's us is the most popular one up here, i'm def nto looking forward to pledging but i'll be going through it with my boys and the aftermath will be well worth it...

the alumni connections are probably going to be worth the requsite fee's in the long run... considering i'm not necessarily a top notch student
 
I'm not supposed to say anything... but some frat at an undisclosed university where froshing is strongly discouraged, they make you sit in a room with a goat for half an hour or so, and don't say anything about what you're supposed to do or anything. If you end up not fucking the goat, you're allowed in. If you do fuck the goat, you're a sick fuck and they don't let you in.

Just go make some friends, start a little crew and you have the same thing without all the bullshit.

AHAHAHAH I know exactly who you are talking about, and let me tell you, I've heard that too.

I love my frat especially for the sports. I played two intermural soccer games today, we have insomniac softball (softball at like 3am) and football etc etc and in the playoffs we play in BC Place which is a 60,000 stadium its sweet to play there...all sports are included in my dues...I milk like 300 of it right there. Sooo worth it. And last weekend a crew of like 8 of my bros and sorority girls went up to blackcomb for opening day it was rad. I never regret joining or pledging.
 
yeah, i've never even considered joining a frat, the only business i've had to do with frats is by poaching their alcohol for 10 minutes and leaving with some of their women, then continuing on...
 
My friend out at UCLA claims to be at an awesome frat. I guess they have lots of alumni and just rich kids in general that donate a ton of money. So they organize some badass parties, including a foam pit with two djs. Plus random other concerts.
 
Mine is pretty tight we are in the middle of our hell week. i havent had any problems yet. just remember its not for everyone but if you think your down, go through with it
 
I think fraternities are pretty cool. My brother is in Theta Chi at Lehigh University. Whoever says it is "buying friends" is completely wrong. First, most fraternities cost pretty much the same as room and board. So saying you stay in a dorm would be like buying friends also?
 
If you aren't looking forward to pledging, you might want to re-think your decision. Out of 4 years as an active, some of the most fun I had was as a pledge. It shouldn't be something to resent, the whole fraternity experience is supposed to be fun.

And for all you who are saying "you're buying your friends" and all those who say thats complete bullshit, its not. There are plenty frats out there that are like that, but plenty that aren't as well. Find one with people you like and get along with and see if the other benefits they offer are worth the cost.
 
dude you'll have more fun on your own w/o joing a frat. and if you want to go to a party at the frat house then just payt and go.....but i mean if your into that kinda thing go for it....

uhh mainly i went to join cuz i was new to the college and was looking for good places to party and meet new people. it just felt good having a group of 80 people behind ur back and helping you. they have old tests you can use, homework for most classes and alot of dope shit.
