Pictures of Detroit's horrible economic decline.

im actually surprised there wasnt a picture of our most recent major...who i now think is in jail

you're from MI? I've always kind of wondered, how bad is it? Is it as bad it is made out to be? Because, it's not like Detroit is stripped of all industry, GM and Ford are still there. Even though, they aren't doing well.

yeah i am actually, i live 40-ish mins. away from 8 mile...in the 'thumb' of michigan is what i call it. most of detroits suburbs are really nice; like one is called Grosse Pointe, and its like one of the wealthiest zip codes in the US i think. but like detroit itself isnt too good, and i never actually go down there. but like where the Lions and Tigers play is pretty neat and not bad...but even there there are people constantly gettting robbed, mobbed, and lots of cars get wrecked (my parents has). but hopefully the new major striaghtens it around.

btw the shred season sucks; i was done at the end of Feb.

^i agree. it's only a matter of time before it turns around. a big city in the heart of America can't stay bad for that long.

(controversial statement alert)

could this be a byproduct of a unionized un productive workforce?

IE if it doesnt pay to stay in business in detroit where legacy costs are driving business out of business. its hard to blame them. but then again i think unions to be the cancer of this country. they protect the lowest common denominator.

Yeah. detroit is in real bad shape. I used to go down there a lot with my dad to sporting events and i would be amazed at how many abandoned buildings there was. Real mind blowing shit, like very luxurious hotels that were some of the most elegant in the country in the 20's and 30's just looking like a nuke tore through that place. I use to live 40 mins from detroit aswell. But i live in SLC. I feel bad for all my homies back in my hometown whos parents used to work for the auto companies that lost their jobs

Exactly what I was thinking.

I would love to go on an urban exploration trip there.

Though I bet I'd get shot by some methies or something.

read my thread FTW.

viva la revolucion!

annnnd Chris. i agree, there was a time and place for the unions. although overall big labor is still a cancer on America.

Those pictures are amazing, Detroit looks like a ghost town.

I heard that the suburbs are really nice and full of life though, so Detroit is not bad outside downtown.

Evan Butka (*fugative) did his senior video project on this, and its really sick. I'll try to find his vid and he can definitely talk more about this.

another_crackhead_1.JPG

theres a wonderful picture of detroit

there are really nice areas, like where i live. and it seems like if you live in like a 60 mile raadius, then you live in detroit. but the heart of detroit is where its all at. not like 32 mile road or anything...more like around 8 mile road

IMO, Flint is WAY worse off. Detroit looks shitty only because they don't tear down the old buildings. Flint has buildings in the same condition, but people are still living in them. Personally, I feel way safer driving through Detroit then Flint

>2nd picture of the Victorian home reminds me of the house in Fight Club

>the picture of the theater reminds me of the the theater in Twelve Monkeys

.. both brad pitt films, wtfffff

over analysis?

Jduke. is right though, i would never, ever want to get a flat tire in flint or saginaw. detroit is nicer than those 2 places

Trying to strengthen infastructure in this state of mind that we have wont work. Being someone who works with their hands/manualy is unfourtunatly looked down apon. too many people see themselves as too good to do something like that. it makes it so it wont happen unless the govt forces people to do things to help the economy. Just putting a shit ton of money to stimulate bussineses wont work. the government has to force people to do things that they might not want to do. just my opnion tho.

meh, most of those have been closed for 20 years. If anything it's a testament to the losers who live there. Decades to make something of their city but they were just interested in selling overpriced scraps of metal, now all those greedy fucks are sitting pretty with pensions while everyone else too dumb to move lives in the tattered remains.

you think they left because they were greedy? are you fucking kidding me. The costs of business were so high compared to having the assembly plants in rural areas or overseas. You expect them to operate at a loss? Lowering the taxes on these companies could have helped, along with a ton of other shit.

sure Detroit is a shit hole and the auto biz is on the verge of extinction. Regardless it still has the dopest electronic, dubstep, techno scene I've ever witnessed. My opinion might be a little bias because I have lived here for all my life.

wanna good time? detroit electronic music festival may 28-30th. my favorite weekend of all year.

tell me that when you're laid off from your job and your union gets you either a: your job or b: another job

same

I heard its about to be pretty big, wish i didnt have to catch a train early as fuck tomorrow.

Funny thing is that i just played two soccer games in Detroit today, one team was composed of the rich Arab people and some colored people, they only had two white people. But the point I am trying to get is that there are many rich foreigners(now Americans) there. And I passed huge houses. Oh and they had one Asian kid.

holy shit, it looks like a bomb went off
and fuck i love good photography of things like taht

There are bullet holes in the windows of the skywalk between the Joe Louis Arena and the Parking Garage where the Red Wings play... parts of Detroit are really bad.

Yup you probably were around a city called Dearborn, its 15 minutes outside of Detroit. It's one of the densest area's in USA for arab population. and naturally, they all have money and of course all claim they are from the D, but live in 6,000sq ft. houses lol.

I'm three blocks away fom 8 mile and it really bad. Even though chrysler gm and ford are all there alot of the industry has moved south so people are constantly getting laid off. Our old mayor gave alot of money away and made it even worse. The school system is down the shitter and tere are alot of obese people. It's really bad

i thought the same exact thing about the 2nd picture but i didn't post it because i didint think people would get the reference.

your in Grosse Pointe, so that doesnt count, thats like living in bel air and reppin compton

honestly from living in detroit i would care less if i got a flat tire in flint or saginaw... detroit is far worse

the only "nice" places in detroit are downtown, midtown, indian village and around comerica park/ford field.
