Philip Seymour Hoffman, dead of overdose

^Let me get this straight:

Skier dies from overdose = tragedy

Brilliant actor dies from overdose = pussy

Got it...

It sucks, but ODing is basically suicide in my eyes. Sorry you tossed your life away but I'm not going to feel bad. Like when that clown from Glee died. People were so upset and acting like it was some horrible tragic death. He cut his own life short and that's the end of it.

Idc because it's a drug overdose and the stupid fucking cnn add ruined my soon to be flappy birds high score.

I see you're point, suicides get no respect from me either, because they chose to off themselves. With drugs in my opinion it just sucks that they couldn't get help.

I had to Google what you were referring to there because I don't keep up with ski culture, but no, that's not a tragedy either. It was just another dumb schmuck who killed himself with drugs.

I'll never understand this mentality, and this hostile reaction. People die of their own decisions, actions, choices all of the time. People in a hurry to get to work run red lights and get t-boned. They fucked up, and paid for it with their life. That doesn't mean that it isn't a shame or a tragedy to the person's loved ones. So, obviously, you've never done anything that could've resulted in your death, right? Did you have the same dismissive, calloused reaction when Shane died? After all, the guy literally jumped off of cliffs and attempted to fly....for a living. Many people outside of this subculture would judge the fuck out of him and say he asked for it.

There's almost always underlying issues that lead to that lifestyle, be it some kind of trauma, or in many cases mental illnesses that go undiagnosed, untreated, and lead to self-medication. It's fine to say to yourself, "Man...why would anyone do that to themselves?", but because he didn't die of cancer, he fucking deserved it?

No one is asking you to shed a tear, hold a candlelight vigil, wear an RIP t-shirt....so if you "couldn't give a shit less about him", why bother posting at all dipshit?

Oh...and.....cool icon. What's that? That's the 40 0z. to Freedom Sun? Didn't Bradley die of a heroin overdose? Hmm...and yet, you're every post is a monument to another deadbeat, stupid junkie. Oh, ok, I get it now.

I dont think I was quite clear enough.

I care more about the weather in Reykjavík, Iceland than I do about some actor not being able to stomach his H

I like his music, doesn't mean I agreed with his heroin usage or that I was upset and felt any sort of sorrow that he died.

Wasn't so much as an overdose. More a mix of booze and opiods which leads to respiratory depression and you stop bleeding.

Was an accident. Sadly, I bet the addiction developed after being prescribed painkillers after an injury.

Then surely you feel that Shane McConkey was a dumb fuck who killed himself by jumping off a cliff, Doug Coombs was a dumb fuck who killed himself by falling down a mountain, any other skier who has died by taking risks is just an idiot.

Just making sure we're on the same page here...

Are you actually going to be a physician? I really hope not. Your mentality for it is horrible.

What does it matter if it was a mistake, I'm not sure about hoffman but it would be a good guess to say his OD was a mistake as well. Either way that doesn't matter both died under very similar situations, and to judge them differently is pretty retarded.

A few things here:

I have no idea who Doug Coombs is.

Dropping cliffs on skis, while inherently risky, is significantly different than injecting yourself with drugs on your fucking bathroom floor like a pathetic piece of shit.

I don't think McConkey was a dumbfuck, but I also don't care that he's dead, nor have I ever.

No, I'm saying that a respected artist succumbing to his vices is no less despicable than a respected skier succumbing to their mistakes. Hard drugs are pretty stupid, but let's not pretend that throwing your body off cliffs and jumps is exactly a "smart" thing to do...

Fundamentally, yes, absolutely.

They both involve almost exclusively self-serving, instant gratification seeking. They both are looked upon by society at large as incredibly reckless and stupid. They both lead to outsiders and total strangers making snap, instantaneous judgments about a person's intelligence. When shit goes wrong and the person turns up dead, people like yourself scoff and pat themselves on the back for living the right way. The behavior is well outside the bell-curve and there's almost certainly something different about the person's brain chemistry that contributes to the person seeking out that lifestyle. Using drugs and doing things like straightlining a double stage cliff band with exposure everywhere, an abrupt bench in the runout on a fragile snowpack have huge potential consequences that are mostly faced by the people left behind. You're making an arbitrary distinction between the two. Again, I'm not asking you to cry for anyone, or to feel sorry for anyone, but I think the fact that you can't or won't see the parallels speaks to either a lack of thought or a lack of empathy.

The main difference is that one is backed by corporations and paired with cheesy X-treme music to sell things to fat people.

The tragedy of death isn't defined by the mechanism.

The people here who sit on their high horses like they're superior.. You're really blinded by ignorance.

Don't give a fuck meet the dude and he was a huge asshole. In my eyes another waste of space Hollywood trash gone away. If only more drug addicts from Hollywood that perch the right way to live. while out of the public eye they are getting fucked up and being assholes to everyone they see could just go out the same way a public display of the low life scum they are.

i don't know about you fuckers but he was a great actor and you're all ignorant twats for saying otherwise. sure, dying with a needle up your arm on your bathroom floor isn't the most memorable, respectable way to go but he lived a great life. sad way to end it. but still.

He's from my hometown in Fairport New York. My uncle was actually in the same graduating class as him too. RIP

You deserve to be put down.

I hope you know that when you die, i and no one else will give a shit and be glad one more arrogant pathetic piece of shit has been wiped from this earth like a dog turd from my shoe.

Fuck you.

i dont know who this guy is and if i dont know him personally i dont and wont care.people die every day all over the world in all sorts of ways.

just cause he was on tv or what ever doesnt make his death any different than the guy who worked at the gas station that no one knew. in my eyes.

Drug addiction is a serious problem that does not necessarily reflect who a person is. Not everyone addicted to drugs is a scumbag.

Im sure almost all of you saying you don't give a shit that their life was taken away have done drugs before.

honestly who cares, even if it was natural he was just another celebrity people post RIP for but barely knew or cared about him when he was alive. hundreds of thousands of people die each day, people are only mourning him because of his supposed status.

Not only is it a tragedy, but any mention of it on NS is apparently forbidden. When it should be a lesson.

Stop pretending like you give a shit about the lives of people who, in absolutely NO way, affect your life.

Thank Jebus nobody else has to see the world through your eyes. If I did I'd be begging my mom for some fucking glasses.

Inb4 you're 12 and have some stupid outlook on life that's going to get completely rocked once your balls drop and you start growing up a bit.
