You should read my sig, as it deals with your perception of what you think I said.  Maybe if you stopped trying to shoehorn my arguments into a single across-the-board rule you'd be a little less confused.
My stance on tipping is that yes, you do absolutely earn your tips in the caliber of service you provide.  That said, there are a shitload of people who have NO IDEA how to tip properly for excellent service or how a restaurant works so it can be discouraging.  If you get so-so service, you should ask yourself- "What made the service poor?"  If it was a cook overcooking your meal (not the server's fault) and when that's handled perfectly by the server and you get another, cooked properly and quickly- that's actually good service regardless of what the back of the house did to your order but many people would tip less because the meal wasn't perfect.
There are a million reasons that people are cheap and very few of them are actually rooted in the server's performance.  In general people are cheap, but go out to eat anyways.
I fail to see how this is a hypocritical opinion to hold, but hey, if slapping random labels on shit makes you feel better, then by all means tear it up brah.
