People Who Dont Tip

Biggest advice I can give you is to read this thread a couple times and understand the vast array of people you're going to encounter. There are people who will treat you well and tip you as they are expected to. I say expected because it is expected. By everyone BUT the server. Hence the low-ass wages.

You're going to deal with entitled little cunts that feel it's your responsibility to kiss their feet. You're going to get amazing people who ask very little and tip more than you'd ever feel you deserve. Take each and every one of these people with a smile and don't ever let them get under your skin. Ever. The minute you start to bitter is the minute you'll stop caring and then you'll really see your tips drop because the genuinely good customers can feel it and don't appreciate it.

Also, you'll drop a couple plates. Shit happens. Give it two weeks and you'll be pressing a 60 pound tray with one hand like it's sponge-cake.

Know the food -- if someone asks about an item you better be able to tell them what it is and make it sound like the most delicious thing ever. Always make sure they have water. Once their main drink only has 1/4 left, ask if they'd like a refill. Check in often enough but not too often. Take garbage off the table all the time, i.e straw wrappers, used napkins, plates not being used, etc. A simple walk-by-n-grab is all you need. Never reach across the person to take something, always go from the side with access. You move around the table, not over the table. And smile.

its really frustrating that states allow this....

here in WA everybody makes at least 9.65 in addition to tips. its bullshit to reduce the minimum wage to assume that 'tips will make up the difference'

>amerifag>go to europe

>arrive in airport and immediately tip pilot $50

>"oi, you don't owe me"

>Explain the superiority of american culture to the peasent

>Get a cab

>Driver attempts to tell me why european countries are better than the great patriotic country of the US

>doyouevenlistentoyourself.jpg

>end up getting in a fight and kicked out

>Throw a $20 tip in his face before I leave.

>Later that night

>Go out to the most american restaurant I could find in this shithole

>Burger King

>awwwyissss.jpg

>Dodge ahead of everyone in line while they all hail me as an american god

>Order my food

>Tastes like shit

>Reminds me that the country is shit

>Tip all the employees 50% of my meal

How fucking stupid are you? I'm lazy cause I order pizza? Jesus I would like to see your standard of living that makes you so active? Is it defined by not ordering pizza. I don't feel sorry for someone cause they close a job as a pizza delivery boy. The description is in the name. And it's not like he's driving my pizza to me cause he's a nice guy, he's fucking getting paid for it.

I'm guessing unless you suck at your job and are horrible with pele then the jobs that make up wi tips actually provide you with an opportunity to make more than that $9/hour.

Also it encourages servers to not fucking suck at their job. I tip for good service, not because some cheese dock does the bare minimum at work. And I do tip very well

Bahahaha... No you're lazy because you cant get off your as to go get it yourself. Also many places offer free delivery, which means they are making far less than you are imagining- not to mention often the person delivering also works in the kitchen too and is doing it because it's a family/small business that needs to deliver to be competitive.

It's not always as cut and dry as you'd like to think it is. You should try being less of a punk someday, it's pretty awesome.

I don't believe servers are entitled to a tip. It's a bonus you earn for doing your job well. That said, I almost always leave one (usually 20-30%), unless the service is terrible (which happens).

one day you'll grow up. they're absolutely entitled to a tip. that's their paycheck. i swear, fucking retarded ppl all up in this thread.

how fucking stupid are you? i'll also add, how self entitled are you? it common fucking sense that delivery service gets tipped. would you not tip the bellboy for bringing your bags cause you're too lazy to bring them yourself? fucking self entitled shit heads, everywhere!

Really? So every pizza place is own by a family that is barely getting by and only offers deliveries because they need the money?

I've never gotten free delivery. It's $3 which is adequate for what I buying and how far away I live.

As for being lazy? Getting pizza delivered is not fucking lazy. There can be ,any circumstances when delivery is the right thing to do.

I'm a punk? You're the one justifying spitting in someone's pizza if you don't get a tip. You sound like a self entitled brat who doesn't understand the the reason for a tip in the first place--good service.

There is rarely a chance for the driver to earn a tip at their job, and I'm not one to tip for no reason. But I do tip very well for good service.

I don't tip because people have fucking hard lives though. And laziness to be is a habit of behaviour, not an act. I order pizza maybe every other month, that doesn't make me lazy.

You are a fucking idiot. Nobody is "entitled" to a tip. It's their paycheck, you say? If you showed up to your 9-5, pissed off your clients, didn't get your work done on time, took an extra long lunch break, and generally sucked dick at everything, are you entitled to your paycheck simply for showing up? No. Your ass would be fired.

Oh I bet you're a HUGE tipper hahaha wow yeah a $3 charge to drive out and give you your pizza. Cars, insurance and gas must all be free where you come from.

Look out guys and girls, baller over here! Woot woooooot! Yep! Hurry that pizza over and I'll give you a shiny nickel! bahahahahaha oh man you are cracking me up yes every pizza delivery person is an underachiever who should suck you off at your doorstep for being you.

This. In the UK a tip is for people who's service is above expected not something your entitled to. If you are entitled to it then why the fuck is it called a tip surely it would be included in the price as a service charge? I tip if its deserved which allot of the time it isn't. People are too use to just getting a tip for not putting any effort in nowadays and because of that service is shit.

No one forces someone to be a fucking delivery driver. But why the hell do they deserve a tip. They don't do anything to deserve it. They signed up for a job that provides a service for an hourly rate, if they don't like it, that's their fault.

Also, I bet a LOt of delivery drivers are underachievers. Last night I tipped $20 and had a $100 bill total. That's pretty good. But the server deserved the tip.

You bbutthurt. Are you somehow affiliated with a shitty pizza place owned by a family barely getting by?

...better hope the same delivery guy doesn't always deliver to you. You're probably well known at the establishment as the guy who doesn't tip. So awesome.

If a bartender does not pour my beer correctly and the head is 3 inches thick, I do not tip

This and Chris's advice are spot on.

Also I'd add not to get too sucked into the social aspect of working there. Waitresses = drama. Always. Just concentrate on doing your job. Besides, if you go out after work with everyone you'll just blow all that cash you just made and end up waking up next to the new hostess, who is now pissed you aren't calling her and as a result your section isn't getting sat with anything but old people, foreigners and "canadians". See what I'm getting at?

Just concentrate on being the best fkn server in the building. Know the menu like your palm knows your dick. Never let old plates or trash sit on the table and always try to be that liaison to the kitchen and ambassador to the menu that you'd want to have looking out for you in a new place. Yes, even if they fkn suck. There are people who go out to eat just to shit on restaurant whitey and that will never change. What you can do is use this constant interaction to hone your personal skills and we can all use to learn how to deal with assholes without losing our cool.

It's not easy but it teaches you a lot about people for sure.

Nope but if I was I would call them up and tell them to make sure everybody in the kitchen teabagged your pizza before they spit on it and delivered it dead last hahaha

I work a job where we have no tip option, or even tip jar. But I am still actually happy to go above and beyond for the customers. It's sad though, people like you who think they're just entitled to tips because they get food to someone are what's wrong with the work ethic today in servers. Tipping a gesture thy says, "thanks for making my meal a pleasurable social encounter".

You think of it as. "I don't make very much money so pay me more because its expected of you"

Based on your attitude. I assume you're an underachiever who worked as a pizze deliverer hahahah.

You are completely incorrect in your assumptions, but whatever- I don't blame you for being pissed that WalMart won't let you put a tip jar on your counter. You work hard, man... You deserve it for that extra effort you put in.

This, when we gave a rather large tip at Noma they basically creamed themselves.

That said, I won't tip unless I'm impressed, if you put in the effort or you've done a particularly good job then I will.

I think most people don't realize gratuity is for personal services, and how well it was performed can determine how much you pay. It's not a reward.

Oh I agree, you are to earn your tip- but there are those out there who are cheap as fuck and their version of what is fair is not fair.

A) I am not some ignorant teenager. I am a social worker and work with people who treat me far worse than anyone a server has to deal with. Take someone's kids and see how well that goes over...

B) I'm in Canada and am pretty sure they don't lower minimum wage for servers because they get tips. If it does, that sucks.

C) If you think you deserve a tip when serving me, act like it. I don't expect much, just be relatively pleasant and fill my drink when it's needed.

D) Did you miss the part where I said I almost always tip and tip well? It has to be pretty brutal for me to not leave one.

Judging by the fact that you've been whining about tipping people who do low level jobs that require no interaction for a tip, suggests that you're the one with a shitty occupation.

Anyways. Rub your balls and spit in people's pizza, there's a reason you work that job. Youre behavior proved it in this thread. Maybe you should try to not act like an immature punk, then someday you'll get a tip well earned

Until then, fetch me my pizza.

not looking to get involved here, but that's a silly assumption. it reminds me of when people defend gay rights and some genius goes "oh you must be gay"

I always tip 20%, basically no matter what. I hate people who think tipping is a gift, or don't do it altogether, it's something you should always do.

This thread is filled with all kinds of ridiculousness. Every country has different customs and expectations, so to clarify, my statement pertains to the serving industry in the US.

The only states that don't apply a "tipped minimum wage" are Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, California, and Alaska. Montana fits this list only if the establishment grosses $110,000+ annually.

All remaining states employ a different minimum wage for employees eligible to earn a tip. This can range from $2.13/hr (majority) up to about $5.50/hr. I can say personally that in Colorado, the $4.00 JUST covers taxes. Every two weeks I was getting a

Lol going out to eat is a privilege hahaha. No, dumb ass, it is a service that I choose to pay for, and you are the server. I wouldn't go to a mechanic and expect a shitty job done on my car, so I don't expect to go out for dinner and have a shitdicked waiter fuck up the evening, then hold his hand out for the 20% he is "owed." get a grip, man.

I've lived in a country where server wages were high and tipping wasn't expected. I was bartending for 22/hour. Let me tell you- the service fucking sucked.

Restaurants staffed by 6 or 8 in north america would be staffed by 2, because the restaurant couldn't afford to pay them. In many of them it was your responsibility to order your food from the bar or from an order counter. It was bullshit. You had to line up, order, get given a number, and then the waitress would find you when your order was ready.

Mind you, this was at mid level restaurants and not high end ones. But in general they were understaffed and that made for shitty service.

I'm all for the tipping system here in North America. Few extra dollars on a meal and you know you can expect fast service and it done right.

You can quote as many statistics as you want. A tip is earned and should not be expected. If you only make 2 bucks an hour, tough shit. Work harder for your tip or find a new job. I don't give a fuck about your taxes. There will always be more idiots standing in line to serve my food if you're sick of it.

first off, i have worked in the restaurant / food industry , so i do speak from experience . i have been a line cook, dishwasher, server, and a bus boy, and a waiter etc. i can say being a waiter is a very difficult job mainly because you are dealing with so many different types of people/ personalities etc. i simply took the position of " the customer is always right " ( even tho most of the time there not ) , anyway all i can say is that its a shit job and not easy in anyway. after being a waiter, i always tip . i tip between 10 or 20 percent , DEPENDING ON THE SERVICE I RECEIVED . i have food allergies and eat gluten free, so if the waiter takes the time to make sure my meal is how i ordered it etc, and when they go back to the " chef f" to double check my food is safe to eat with my allergies. now that means a lot, they are going above and beyond there normal tasks to make sure a customer is happy. now people like that , they will be receiving a hefty tip from me. 10% is like the lowest i will tip even with substandard service just because the fact i know from experience how bad the job sucks etc.

I'd love to plop you down in a serving job and watch you break down and cry.

Your response to that: "I'd never be stupid enough to take a shit job with shit pay where I depend on tips."

Go fuck yourself troll. I hope you get food poising and vomit your heart onto a plate so I can laugh at you take your last rattling breath.

22/hour for bartending is not very good (compared to what bartenders w/ tips make)....at least it's consistent though

also pre tip bartenders...this was something i learned reading GQ when i was 16 and has stuck with me since. nothing better than a bartender handing drinks to you right in front of other people in line.
