Panasonic Gh5

Looks like a great cam!

4k 60p will be nice

10 bit 4:2:2 will be absolutely amazing but it won't have 6k or 8k as originally anticipated

They did gud. Would love them to come out with a full frame line though.

Can everyone stop about FF? Its not better and this camera isnt a photo camera.

They need an a7s competitor for low light and they'll never get there with m43.

MEH

ive been reading the gh5 thread on dvxuser and its full of people like you complaining about low light.

If you want a low light camera, then buy one! the gh5 is going to shoot 4k60, 422 10 bit 1080p, those are features are only on cameras that cost 10 times what the gh5 will cost. If low light is something you shoot in often, then buy a fucking a7s and move on haha.

It's not that I'm complaining about the low light on the gh5, it's that I think it would be a great addition to the line for people already invested in the gh system if they want to pick up a b cam or shoot a low light scene to match with the rest of their film, or rent ff cine lenses. It would make it a far more versatile system and make it more appealing to people that want to be able to shoot more stuff and not be constricted to well-lit situations. I think the gh5 is an amazing camera but having a complement in the system would be awesome as well.

But then it would have to be $3k at least, the reason its so affordable (same as the gh2,3,4) is because it doesn't have EVERYTHING but thats okay. You just cant expect to spend < $2k on a camera and have everything, thats why people buy more expensive cameras.

Yeah I understand that, I'm suggesting that they could release a totally new camera alongside the gh that is full frame. Price point or replacing the gh5 wasn't what I was talking about. They could expand their mirrorless video line with a new model.

how is full frame not better? It wouldnt necessarily improve the gh line because they would become more expensive, but full frame definitely is better if money is no object.

Not necessarily, the dof is shallower and low light is typically better but it's not an objectively better image. If it were then all the high end cinema cameras would be ff and never super 35

Also bigger sensor usually means a slower rolling shutter readout for video.

Full Frame is cool if you want that super shallow look for more narrative/commercial stuff. But I think for shooting skiing or other action sports M43 is a pretty ideal format. DOF is shallow enough for when you need that look, but the lenses are way smaller and cheaper, and its easier to get a good deep stop for when pulling focus is basically impossible.

Plus, if you really need that super shallow FF look, just get a speedbooster. Don't they make one that puts you at like a 1.3x crop now?
