Overcome fear on jumps

How tf do I get over fear? I'm not really scared to try things on rails but when it comes to jumps I'm to scared to try a 3 but I've tried a 4 out of a rail

Gain air awareness whether it's on a tramp or cliff/bridge jumping, or otherwise just skiing off stuff more. Everything from small side hits and cat tracks to cliffs and bigger jumps. They'll all help you get more comfortable and less scared to try new things especially on the smaller jumps

I'll jump off like 30 to 40 ft cliffs and hit the biggest jumps at my resort do flips corks Misty's n shit on a tramp but still cant bud up the confidence to 3

Literally just go off jumps more. Carve off them. Keep carving harder and harder until you feel so confident that you almost accidentally just do a 180. Now continue that rotation - you really gotta commit to looking backwards - until you're suddenly looking back where you want to go! You'll get it in no time.

After you eat it a couple times going off a jump you'll realize it's not that bad. Landings are soft.

I'm far from a big mtn skier but 40ft sounds really big to me. if u can drop cliffs of that size then u can definitely do a 3 on a sidehit.

Dont go right to a park jump, do it off of side hits, and keep doing that until you feel comfortable enough to do it on a small park jump. Get comfortable on a small one, then take it up in size. Get to about a 15 foot jump and learn how to throw in some grabs.

You just gotta accept that you will probably crash a couple times and it will be just fine on a small jump with softish snow.

And this...

lean forward, but not that much

I've ate shit on a 45ft before and I was aight idk what's holding me back

i don't have the clip(s) anymore but i learned how to 3 off a side hit that at times was basically not even there, you don't need a big jump at all.

You feel the fear to try anything because you've logged like no time on jumps. You have to spend time lapping the jumps and working your way into trying things one at a time.

Lol east coast landings are ice they sound like fire crackers when you land

You can get over it by hitting jumps a bunch. Tricks on skis feels weird at first due to the forward momentum but you'll adapt if you do it enough. And coaching helps a lot if you're part of a team and motivated enough.

best thing you can do is eat shit bad, obviously not like injure yourself bad but fall in a “worst case scenario way” and you’ll realise that snow is surprisingly soft and with a helmet and basic air awareness and falling technique, hurting yourself happens far less than you’d overthink in your head

Felt and heard this

Now very scared because I told myself I’ll send more jump tricks next year. Gonna have to go right after it snows so the landings aren’t all scraped away.

Have no clue why this is getting responses again but I am now starting to be less of a bitch. Have tried a forntflip off a bump 3 times, 360s, switch and forward 270s on a hip, and 180 mutes.

Progress. Threads never die.

I need consistent ski buds who make the experience fun so that I gain the confidence to try new things. My dad is an old grumpy skier. Not some crazy mid 50s kinda guy. Without that boost from having fun, I’ll never improve…help

Get your homie to film you with a HVX200 with a good scene file you'll lace for sure

It's amazing what one will do when the cam is on them. Could go either way. Victory, or defeat!

Dude literally got mad snow up at Killington and I still hit a knuckle today and fucked my heel up it wasn't even that bad of an undershoot like I landed just where the knuckle curves back down and now I'm limping lmfao

I'm still scared every time I hit a big jump. But that's why I do it, for the emotional sensation that you can't get anywhere else. The best part is right at the bottom of the ramp, where you're going really fast and looking 20 ft up at this huge wall in front of you

I take it back, I'm too scared to try shit on a real park jump. Handmade jumps/ side hit aren't scary but nah, park jumps r dummy scary

Sack up and hit a really big jump a few times and itll make the medium sized, trickable jumps feel tiny and less intimidating

Impossible, jumps at my hill r too big and landings are very icy or very hard east coast shi

Theyre okay to just straight air though im sure, i also ski on the east coast so i feel the icy landing part, but you could literally just take off and roll the windows down the whole time. Being in the air that long vs what the smaller jumps feel like afterwards will make you much less scared.

Not scared of the jump part, scared of the spinning part

I feel you. But you are still young! I'm an ... man! ;-)

I used to hit the large, but now I'm getting way scared. It's like going in reverse! ;-)

If the jumps at your hill are too big you could try asking them to make a smaller one. One year my hill had a tiny baby jump and monster comp jump almost the whole winter until I emailed them and asked for a medium jump. One week later perfect medium jump.

Also, try to jump "casually". Just do it again and again until it feels boring and like you could do it anytime anywhere.

Yeah we got a small one now good for learning 3's but I've landed a couple 2 ons to rails and I'm still too scared to spin a 3 ???

Do a 360 on a small ass jump -> do a 360 on a bigger jump

I've landed them off like a 6 foot jump so now my only option is to spin the 25 or keep being a bitch
