Over rated: RAILS

I think rails are getting old. Its just not skiing! An its not worth risking an injury, I would rather hit a huge cliff and get hurt then riding a piece of metal! What you guys think?

Want to go bowling?

i think living in utah rails are over-rated, but for kids mid west and east coast, its all they got, so i see why they do it so much, and for us utah kids, the past 2 weeks were shit so it was good to do some rails, now with the storms its back to the cliffs.

i like rails more than jumps. the feel of slididng across them is so cool. its better than jumps.

Gotta have some variety man. Rails are the shit. I Love 'em to death. Besides, when i get shinbang I just start on the rails, less distance to fall.

yah, I guess ifI dind't have anything better to do then rails would be it! But I live in utah so alta is better than metal, cliffs, yah

Want to go bowling?

im all about powder through the woods and big booters. ive never really been a rail kinda guy, for some reason they always sketch me out. i could be standing at the top of a 15 foot PVC rail and get butterflys in my stomach, but hit, and clear a 50 foot spine no problem. im wierd

rails will fade

powder, cliffs, and air is so muh hotter!

I would rather ski then do rails!

The only problem with skiing is the lack of girls, atleast hot and horny ones! Want to go bowling?

Yeah I get that shaggy, I can do rails like it's nothing, and huge airs, but when it comes to big spins I can't do it. Something about facing up the hill in mid air, and going around too fast, I lose track of where I am. same reason I don't do backs.

Best post yet. I totally agree with you. All these kids talking about 630's to rail being the progression have no idea. rail get old and they aren't even skiing. look at a guy like turpin, i'm not trying to dis on him but he's not much of a skier but he is good at rails. Personally i'd much rather hit up some big cliffs or even a nice tabletop than sliding on a piece of metal.

rails are just another part of skiing. I mean its about being able to do everything hit some jumps grind some rails, drops some clifs, ski some sick lines, bust through a little pow and repeat. its dumb if you only can do rails and suck at everything else. its about being well rounded

the magazine is called 'POWDER' cool! - my stupid non-skiing friend

^^true that. and its heaps of fun to chill and session a picnic table or some shit like that. love that stuff. rails are the bomb, specially when you play add-on.

ULTA-MATUM

telestar....if turpin wouldn't have been injured for the xgames your foot would be in your mouth when you saw him do an entire pipe run switch......i'm a pow skier first and a park skier second, but you gotta give credit where credit is due

-Strode

Abba Zabba, you my only friend

telestar6 has no idea what hes talking about..... and rails are a part of skiing, they actually have competitions focused right around them... in competitions there a bigger part of newschool skiing then cliffs and lines.... you dont see a run in the x-games with cliffs, its rails and jumps....

were rails not encouraged by ski companies so they can sell more skis? I dont know about you but when I hit rails at the end of the day my edges are totally destroyed and the skis need to be replaced faster..

skis are made for doing rails, they have wider edges and all that jazz, i have been riding rails very heavily since i can remeber and my skis have never broken

turpin can ski. he was at jay last month with glen plake deep in the trees. plus, the switch pipe stuff is off the hook.

I like bumps, pow, and air much more than rails, but i think mixing it up is always good. the way things are now is how the balence of everything should stay. our sport is pretty well rounded now.

Switchin:

Sure, if I lived in SLC I'd be in Greeley Bowl, not slamming my ribs on a mailbox.

But since what I've got here is mostly iced-up intermediate groomers, I figured the terrain park is the best alternative to complete boredom.

rails are cool but just cuz you can slide them doesnt mean your a good skier, take half the jibbers out the park and theyd shit there pants on anything steep and deep Nigga!

Just go steep and deep! An occasional rail can be fun though, but sliding steel rails is not why some dude invented the fluffy white stuff!

RS4Life:

Your a dip shit! 'They have comps foused on just rails' well no shit! They have comps focused on just clifs and big lines! Of course they don't have cliffs in the x-games, its the x-games, they don't do that, its not freeriding! Regardless if they have cliffs and powder in comps rails are still over-rated! Big mountain takes more skill, rails are easier! You don't see morrisoon wasting his time on a piece of metal or a pinic table! HA HA! A pinic table? seriously? Lets go jump on a pinic table and rip it up, I would rather ski!

The only problem with skiing is the lack of girls, atleast hot and horny ones! Want to go bowling?

snowbird4life: what are you talking about? Utah is the best place for rail, SLC has the most variety of urban rails, it's amazing. Utah is for rails, the east coast for rails, the west coast for rails, canada for rails. It's all good wherever you are, but Utah is the ultimate destination for Rails.

switchin- I think u just are hating on rails, cause you suck at them...... if you live in the east coast, and connecticut for that.... rails are basically the only good thing to ski on... other then goin up north... which is tough to get to here and there

I've never skied any crazy backcountry cliffs or anything like that, but i find it hard to believe that it's harder than sliding a lot of rails..

It's all preference.. but IMO big mountain is def'n the soul of skiing.

Personally, if I were in it for the rails... I'd be snowboarding.

Yeah I totally agree with you on that one.. The only problem is, many of us don't have any Big Mountain within a few hundred miles. Forcing us to resort to park and pipe more.

-Jason

ya in the midwest all we have are rails and tables and the occasional 5-10 ft drop haha so we ahve to be good at rails

fuck a book

Yeah don't worry, I don't have any mountains around here either.

In fact if I don't head out west for university, I'm seriously considering buying a board for handrails and stuff.

I've been totally inspired by some good snowboarding movies... so stylie.

concept what the hell is the differences between sliding a rail with a pair of skis or a snowboard. Is a snowboard more socially acceptable for sliding rails with? do u know get the same satisfaction with skis compared to a board on rails? if so you are skiing for the wrong reason... yes, cliffs and BC stuff is the foundation of skiing and its roots.. but when u like out in areas like connecticut, and have grown such a love for a sport handrails and shitty jumps or handmade stuff is all you have.

If you have to get a snowboard to be able to be 'cool' and be able to be with the in crowd at the handrails.. then you should just sell your skis now and get it over with... just ski man,... ski everything, everywhere, and any place u can get at....

By the way snowboarding still and always will kick major ass

something tells me the starter of this thread just nutted himself today on a rail and is now bitter...

but anyway, rails are sic, they're mad fun if you can do them well

i like all aspects of skiing, saying rails suck is not better than saying big mountain sucks

and who's to say it isn't skiing? it's just a part of skiing, not some kind of diff sport

and yes... snowboarders styles on rails and in the air period is fucken tight.. but as a skier if u respect a style like this, you should carry on this snowboard style to skis... maybe ski and board so u get a better understanding..... cause somewhat of the same style of boarding ( Low, bent knees, no arm flaring, cocky attitude, virtually no flaw coming off or onto the rail) has already been taken place, and ill tell you what.. after watching these damn xgames skiers are fucken right up there with boarders right now, but boarders held the crown first and gotta give em respect... wow im ranting sorry

Woah.. dude you got me wrong on my post. Read what five0 did. Those are my reasons to want to.

I would never give up my skis for snowboarding. I'd just love to snowboard handrails and ski big mountain.. that's it.

Skiing is something I love... when you love something, FUCK 'cool.'

Rails are progression. If you are afraid of change head over to the grand old sport of Figure Skating. That crap hasnt changed in like 100 years. It is just you, the ice, and the feeling of freedom. Oh yeah, and alot of spandex.

im and anti-whore trend-whore pro-trend anti-prowhore

i think rails are part of newschooling. u may get crazy looks from boards who dont think u can slide rails adn u prove em wrong, its awesome. but i do like big mountain, if we had em in michigan i would do that more. but i can jsut chill at a tabletop, or kicker all day with hittin ne rails. so its all prefrence and what your good at. skiers that ride rails and are good i give props. it all sking

It depends on the conditions, and what kind of skier you are. Very technical skiers usually enjoy progression on rails. Some more stlyie skiers enjoys bigger airs and hits.....

^ def true.. concept- i didnt mean to blow up on you or anything i was just tryin to prove a point to anyone out there ya know.... but yeah snowboarders do have that certain style to them on rails thats amayzing
