Origins of biblical scripture

There is an argument we christians make that proves the sheep thing is not evolution but i can't explain it fully b/c im not a scientist
 
But Genesis 2:4 says God created the universe in ONE day, not six. Sooo... which story is correct?

Its not me, I swear. Bona-fide brainwashed Creationist here that believes the Earth was created in 7 days and is only 10,000 years old (please correct me if I am wrong here joshua).

Joshua, if you are really interested in debating the finer points of evolution as a real and actual process, start a new clean thread. As a graduate of the University of Washington's Biology program, I'd be more than happy to share my views in it.

Hahahahahaha this thread is a blast. The first four or so pages I wanted to fight that kid and then tie him up, make him watch bruno, and then the discovery channel. This is summer NS at its best. While this kid is most certainly a troll (hopefully), it does make me rather sad and frustrated that there are countless amounts of real people that are truly this stupid. I do not even have a clever expression or metaphor or sufficient facepalm picture to fully state my mind on how wrong/unintelligent you are on too many levels. I also kept wanting to quote some of the stupid shit you (or is it your elders with a very false sense of any knowledge, even biblical) have said, but in each reply you post there is so much I could say, but I don't feel like writing a novel. Yes, I am atheist (who woulda guessed??), I however also live my life with the same sorts of morals as religious poeple do. Yes, I understand that the morals behind virtually any religion are all similiar and generally good (besides the many, many, many outdated morals which made sense 2000 years ago, but now do not. That however is a different subject), but poeple like you josh, is the reason I dislike western religion. Because of singleminded ignorant fanatics and fundementalists such as yourself, religion has caused so much hate and death and not peace in the world. 2000 years ago, when no one could explain how anything in this world worked, saying a god created it was off course a much more elegant way of stating things, much more elegant than "i have no idea". But things have changed in endless ways since then, and now much can be scientifically (YES, i know your not a scientist, I could tell trust me) without doubt. The two "theories" which are basically taken as fact by all besides people like you are the theory of relativity and the theory of evolution. So you want to argue against the theory of relativity too now? Haha I'd love to hear that one, seeing as you know so much about the sciences, or care so much to learn about it in that manner. If you use your religious beliefs for what they were really meant to accomplish for you, evolution being a fact should absolutely in no way affect you in any way. I will end my rant with that, and leave you with a couple quotes (copy pasted, i know), josh.

I'll claim no such thing...this is hands down the most interesting thing happening in my sad, sad, little world at the moment.
Anytime someone dramatically announces the fact that they're "done", it's a guarantee that they'll be back; it's a move for control whose intent is to make the person appear "above it", superior (intellectually or morally), or more mature.
Someone who's actually done won't feel the need to broadcast the fact.
 
you guys are all missing the point the bible is full of stories who cares who wrote them or who said it wether it was god or not. most of you have probably never read the bible or no anything about it. yes there are lots of crazy stories in the bible that are probably not true and yes god is probably not real but thats not the point!!!

religion is really all about helping your fellow man bing nice to everybody acting moral in immoral situations just becasue god said it and alot of crazy people do crazyshit in the name of religion is no reason to say you hate religion and reject the views of the bible. if somebody tried to live their life against the bible they would be the bigest ass hole and everyone would hate them.

no i don't follow; is something good because God says that it is, or does God say that something is good because it is good?

If the former, God's morals are arbitrary and we have no real reason to act in accordance with the whims of God.

If the latter, God merely appeals to some greater power for morals, and is unnecessary.

you do not need religion to tell you how to act.
 
ok i go to a catholic school and i had a semester about creationism vs evolutionism

this PRIEST told us evolution is true, it is a fact. it can be proven. he even told us about how the genesis stories are total bs, just past civiliaztions ways of understanding the beginnings of the world they knew. besides if creationism were true, why are there two CONTRADICTING stories. someone needs to go read genesis chapters 1 and 2

the problem people have with the bible is god says if you disobey you go to hell if you follow you go to heaven and that bothers people and it bothers people even more that others believe it

if there was no such thing as religion and the bible still existed just as a story or a message everybody would say it is a strong positive message that people would benefit from following

just because you dont think god is real is no reason to hate on the bible by calling it and its message stupid you are being totally ignorant and obviously have never looked at it in your life

 
no one is saying the bible doesn't have valuable stories and lessons to teach people.

What we are saying is that the people who take those stories as the

word and the only word, that use them to control and manipulate people,

and then walk through life with their eyes shut and their hands over

their ears while uncontrollably screaming that evolution is bullshit

(or in this case, the CAUSE of the Holocaust), that the earth is just a

few thousands years old, and that our god and only our god is the

creator of everything are fucking pieces of shit. Then problems arise

when this sort of mentality begins to affect those around it who want

nothing to do with it.

I am all for religion when it helps someone personally. Great, do your thing. Faith helps a lot of people.

But keep the rules and bullshit that comes with it to yourselves. If

you don't want to believe in evolution, fine, but don't try to tell me

that evolution consists of some slime that developed into a bunch of

other shit while claiming you can prove that evolution doesn't happen

in sheep cause some "scientist" explained it to you. Don't sit there

and talk about how "Charles" Dawkins is some world renowned

evolutionist when you can't even get his name right.

The whole "go debate a creationist" is a joke because they bring the

same ignorant, spouting of BS, fish out of water mentality to any

logical discussion.

These are the type of people that I am sure logical Christians just

cringe over. It sad that all these well meaning, good spirited

religious people who have faith for themselves get tied in with a bunch

Naw man, no way, the earth is only 6,000 years old and the 13 billion

years the universe has been in existence is just a trick, just like

fossils, that god is playing on you. Smarten up man! Oh, and gays

can't marry (because, of course, Marriage is an entirely Christian creation, no one ANYWHERE in the world got married before Christianity came along, meaning that just because there is supposed to be separation of church and state in the US, and that all people are supposed to be created equally, it just really don't apply to those fags who want the same right as me!) , no condoms for the millions dying in Africa (because hey, like the Pope said, providing millions of poor, AIDS revenged people with the means of safe sex would only INCREASE the problem), and no stem cell research should be conducted in any way shape or form (even though the majority of stem cells don't come from aborted fetuses, and the results of that research would help out millions of suffering people each year). Yes. We kick fucking ass.

but you know the feeling you get when you think im going to help my fellow man mabe the urge to give to a homeless man or help an old lady across the street those are the kinds of things the bible promotes theres stuff that talks about worshipping god and al that shit

but most of it is gods message to man explainng how we are all gods children and therefore we have to take care of eachother i know that makes it sound realy gay but it has some merrit

I agree with everything you said i am in no way defending religious nuts its just really frusterating to see so much hate on christianity by people who im pretty sure have not put any time into trying ot understand it there is a good inspiring message that any human would benefit from reading

reading the bible makes you want to be a better person it did for me atleast i didnt read the whole or close thing you dont even have to to understand its not completley crazy
