No, Adolf Hitler and the Fascist, racist beliefs he was surrounded by as a rich, pampered teenager in Austria, the beliefs he accepted and elaborated upon in his own twisted mind, caused the Holocaust. Desperation as a result of the Great Depression helped Hitler realize his sick, evil dream, as it gave him a way to win the hearts and minds of the German public, but even this wasn't the true cause. Social Darwinism (the belief that certain races are superior to other races, and as such withhold the right to assert their dominance over other races because of the idea of "survival of the fittest"), which is what you are referring to, was one of the reasons behind many questionable actions in history, such as African Imperialism, but when it comes to the Holocaust, it is ridiculous to say that the cause was Social Darwinism, let alone the theory of evolution itself. No, the Holocaust can be blamed on many things, but without Hitler's twisted beliefs--and frightening mastery of public consciousness--it wouldn't have happened. Even if Hitler had simply come around in a time of economic stability, it is very likely that he would not have been able to seize control of the government. But regardless of the extraneous circumstances, Social Darwinism played a very small role in the advent of the Holocaust.

if you're interested in the story aspect, the creation of the creation myth, a very interesting take on it, is that of Daniel Quinn. Quinn wrote a series of novels based around the teaching's of Ishmael, a telepathic gorilla, whose perspective comes from outside human culture. While obviously written as books of fiction, Quinn's tale provides interesting insight as to how the beliefs mentioned in this thread came about.
This first section will be to dispel the 15 year old, i know everything about the world, anti-evolution, idiocy. This won't be for everyone, so please skip down to the next bold section (the exciting part) if you understand that humans have been around for 4 to 5 million years , and that our particular species, homo sapien sapien, 130,000 years. You should never use the terms half evolved species, as it doesn't make sense. There are unsucessful species, which failed evolution, but you can compair them to relative species to understand where they came from, and could see how they are 'half evolved' in the sense that they share common features with an ancestor, and current living animal. There are also 'half evolved' species in the sense that they represent a transitionary species. There were a variety of life styles, agricultures, some that worked some that didn't. But it wasn't untill 10,000 years ago that one group of Humans begain to live a lifestyle where they toiled the earth, growing food only for themselves. Killing their competion, taking away their competitions food source, and denying competition the right to any food what so ever. Basically the battle for food became an all out war, rather than daily competion.
To use the terminology that Quinn uses in his book, the native american, indiginous, tribal peoples, that existed before the agricultural revolution, are known as the leavers, while the culture that practiced totalitarian controll of food and land is known as the takers. Let's begin tying the story of the takers and leavers into our creation story.
Now obviously the leavers can be best understood as typically hunter gatherers, or in a way thought as eating much like every other animal does. A wolf pack goes into the forest, and tries to chase down the deer. If the wolf is lucky, a deer is caught, and eaten, if the deer is lucky, the wolf goes hungry. This is living "under the hand of God", "by the Gods" and it can be said that only the Gods have knowledge of who can live and who can die. (note back to evolution, this is determined by your evolutionary advantages/disadvantages). This is a very easy life style, as nature works in through a path of least resistence.
When the Man takes a bite of the fruit of knowledge, he things he understands the law of who lives and who dies. Man thinks I can grow all this food, i can store it, and i can eat it every day, so when, unlike the wolf who isn't lucky to catch the deer goes hungry, man does not go hungry when he is unlucky and does not catch the deer. This sort of life style spread rapidly as it granted the populations the power to reproduce at a rate much higher than was allowed by the natural resources. When you have the power to reproduce in great numbers, you also have the ability to form great armies. You need great armies to be able to get more land, to grow more food, to support your unaturally large population. The eating of the fruit of knowledge provided us with a false understanding of how the world works, and we began to think that it was a good thing to grow all this food, and to not starve when we were unlucky. We freed ourselves from the Gods.
Now to supplement this false understanding of the way the world works, we also went through a period of mass forgetting. Once the totalitarian-agriculture took rule, we began this great forgetting. This was the period of time where we began the idea that man had come into the world as an agriculturalist. The idea that we toiled the land, and lived by the sweat of our brow became the standard story of our begining; When it is far from being true.

so basically what he is saying is that the genesis creationalism was more of a change of mindset of people as whole rather than people just being created? and after this mindset was established people forgot all their history before that and just figured we were always like this before this agriculture revolution there was nothing so thats the start of humans? that's what i got out of it anyway.

It's more like the common conception about our world is that we are a collection of a variety of cultures, but the truth of the matter is, we're really one culture, a culture that's foundation is based on the belief that man is made to rule the world and that the world was made to be ruled by man. Man owns the earth to grow his food, and he allows cows to live because they feed him, and he doesn't allow wolves to live because they eat his cows.
The agricultural revolution is really the source of the majority of our problems, disease, overpopulation, famine, war, and crime (in the socially constructed sense), not to mention the obvious climate and animal population crisis (extinction and invasive species). Furthering the above claim, we are one culture, this extends between east and west. In all our cultures we have a growing problem that we are born innately bad, with original sin. We need salvation, we need to live by God's grace, or to find nirvana and escape the toilsome cycle of life.
It doesn't matter where you go in the world, you can ask someone if they need to be saved, and they will know what you're talking about.
i really recommend reading a book, they all are pretty much the same basic philosophy, only the way the story is conveyed changes. I personally like the story of B the most because it is presented from the view point of a Christian clergyman investigating the ideas we've been talking about. It includes both the Christians interpretation along side a lecture presentation of the material. check it, it's a mind opening experience.

First of all. a couple of very nit-picky things:1) a theory is a working hypothesis that has been well supported through experiments. Nothing can be proven, only disproven as new evidence comes to light.2) whales did not turn into humans. The analogous structures found in the two (flipper/arm) are evidence for divergent evolution. He hypothesized that the conditions on the primitive earth (certain ratio of gases, lightning providing energy, water, etc.) led to the creation of particles important to life such as amino acids. Why does this theory have so much support? Because by mimicking these conditions in a closed environment he managed to create some of these particles. Since then new experiments have occured providing new insights and the theory has been revised. Is it complete? No, Is it correct? Probably not, but there is much evidence supporting it and none disproving it. However if such evidence is found, the theory will again be revised.
This all said, I don't believe in evolution as the be all and end all for the origin of life. It is a possibility, but I believe there are many other possibilities that no one has even looked into yet. Could it be that God created everything? Maybe, again no way of proving this, many people can evidence to support it. Sometimes the simplest answers are correct. My only issue with this is it is impossible to test experimentally,

Everyone believes the things they were told as a child to some extent. In fact what we are told and experience as a child ultimately determine what type of person they are to day. We are all a little "brainwashed" by our cultural surroundings.

Several books of the Old Testament were written by King David, and King Solomon who probably are the most respected kings in the Jewish faith. King David was said to have been appointed by God through a prophet, I think Samuel. King Solomon was appointed in the same way.
Many of the books of the New Testament were written by the Apostle Paul, who was responsible for spreading Christianity around the Roman Empire.
I think the reason Christianity caught on so much during that time was the peoples devotion to the faith even through a time of intense persecution. Nero, the emperor of Rome during the time, spent a great deal of time trying to wipe out Christianity, but despite his best efforts it kept growing. People saw followers of Christ dying, in brutal ways, for their faith, and thought there might be something worth while in it.
That is about all I know, but I am sure you could dig deeper.

Fuck, tht's what I meant to say about my theory I just couldn't find the words. I knew it had to do with something about experiments. My bad guys, now I feel like and idiot. I never said a whale evolved right into a human, I just said it had VERY similar bones to other land mammals and it also had some vestigial organs found in other mammals. Josh was the ignorant fuck that said they changed straight to humans. I left a lot of details out of my posts to keep the typing down so they might be confusing.

Evolution is merely a faulty crutch for atheists to use as a way to convince themselves that God does not exist. I DO read it. It is shit. Why would Darwin, a practicing Christian EVER create a theory to use to deny god? WHY!? You have been so damn ignorant. Evolution is not a way to escape god. In fact, the most logical thing is that god made the Earth billions of years ago, put down the first cell and let it evolve, how about that?
