The HMS Victory is the oldest currently commissioned ship on the planet.

And, yeah it's not on wiki, but I'm almost certain theres some african country that has a super old WW1 era soviet warship of some nature, that was upgraded or something to not run like the Titanic...

it ain't like the mexican navy is playing a reenactment of the caine mutiny, they do have those two modern missile boats bought from israel...

hahaha fantastic.

technically speaking, the USS Constitution is still a commissioned US Navy ship. Going to be hard to beat 1797.

pssssh, that shitty old thing doesn't even float anymore? Constitution not only floats but they bring it out to sail on it's own once a year. Obama should have had it set anchor off the coast of libya to calm things down.

haha ^ if that were the case it still would be on its way , maybe 1/4 the way there. It takes that thing allot longer to get there than a destroyer or carrier than hauls ass.

it probably wouldn't even be past the tip of cape cod yet.

But shit, imagine being a dictator and waking up one morning and seeing a frigate from the war of 1812 with 44 guns sitting out in the harbor?

It would be better if they saw a tomohawk come out of the deck .after they had been sitting there laughing at it.

hahhahaha they would probably think
4162010103910AM_holy_shit_this_is_awesome.jpg

than realize they are fucked

The amount of ignorance in this thread about whats really going on in the military is amazing.

ING4 woozy takes law school too seriously...ohwaitohwaitohwaitohwaitohwaitohwaitohwaitohwaitohwaitohwait...

Please, let woozy share his important and relevant opinion about things we are supposed to find shocking and revealing but actually knew about all along.

people have said every war since the Civil War would be over by Christmas. If you didn't see this lasting more then a few weeks you are a moron.

Oh, so you are just coming to say "I told you so," because no one likes that guy. We are all pretty well aware that the conflict in Libya is still going on. I really don't see a lot of people giving a shit about what you have to say right now. You remind me of that kid in Highschool who kept trying to force his opinions on everyone, despite the fact that everyone had written him off after hearing his spiel 10,000 times.

and yet still nobody but you cares....

and for what it's worth, congress is voting next week on whether to end military action or not. Because june 1st is actually the first date congressional debates etc can take place.

Supposedly they are going to request an outline of U.S objectives in libya and take it from there. And in all likelihood, the list of objectives will simply be "remove gaddhaffi from power" and that'll be good enough.

I think what really ought to be addressed is the discrepancies between UN resolutions and US resolutions. Being a part of the UN leads to commitments, which sometimes goes against US policies. And personally i think UN commitments are more important.

but there aren't boots on the ground, and nor will there be. And if the possibility of that occurring even begins to come up, it will get shot down.

And i think it's more important because the current year is 2011, and not 1800. The Constitution is a good, important, but flawed document due to time passing. The founding fathers had good intentions(debatable) but simply couldn't have known that things such as the UN would exist, so they of course don't address it. That doesn't mean it's wrong or that we should have no part in the UN...it just means that they couldn't have predicted it, and so it wasn't mentioned. The constitution was written when the US had under 4million people, and barely a standing army/navy to speak of.

Therefore, it obviously doesn't address the question of "hey, what if one day this country is one of the biggest, most powerful nations on earth and huge alliances between world powers form?"

I also find it interesting that you skip over the middle section of my response, in which i respond regarding the politics, and instead choose to point out how you made a fool of someone else, and then call me pathetic.

You know what's pathetic? Trying to gain a sense of superiority over others via an online forum by displaying a decent knowledge of US politics while also attempting to put down others.

You know why everything you say/write isn't worth shit? Because your opinions and thoughts count for nothing, especially on NS, just like mine and everyone else's. If this whole thing gets you going so much, dont bitch about it on NS and try to make a fool of someone who posted 2 months ago. Write to congressmen, petition for change.

there is significant mental and emotional harm possible responding to every idiot on the internet who wants to have a go.

Your a fool if you think SF isn't on the ground. Just because its not being reported doesn't mean they aren't there. They are called Quiet Professionals for a reason.

I hope woozy realizes i don't give a shit, and was more or less just acting as a foil to his own arguments back then, so you can stop quoting me specifically every time you bump this.

congratulations. You managed to outlast/hold a grudge on an internet forum. You win.

fair enough.

I mean acting as a foil because I personally did not hold any belief in either direction, and still don't. This is the way I handle any sort of politically related discussion. I simply do not devote myself entirely to one side. I'll willingly admit that the argument I put forth in this thread was indeed wrong. Well done to you for recognizing the right side. The reason I don't commit to a side is because....well, let's put it this way. There were 2 sides to this argument, 1 of which was right. What difference has it made to anything at all? Just created good conversation/discussion I suppose. Otherwise it just creates hostility amongst people.

And regarding the last point, are there not always a few soldiers at all embassies? I might be wrong but that's the impression I was under.
