ON3P 5, thoughts?

ok I've been thinking of bringing this up

what is up with skiers making edits in British Columbia suddenly feeling like they need to have native american music in their edit? JNilla is not the first to do this. Don't tell me it's something about "feeling connected to the land" or "respect" or whatever, cause it's not like some indigenous chief in BC is watching ON3P5 right now and being like "hey! these guys totally get us and understand our culture!"

I think people should use whatever music they want, but it's weird how there is a connection between using native american chanting with footage from BC specifically

Especially since there is such a dope underground Hip Hop scene up in Vancouver. I remember when almost every ski film had at least one Swollen Members track.

I agree, use what you want when you want, to elaborate on my comment, I should say it really just felt out of place, I assume it was looking to achieve some sort of artistic appeal, but in my view came off as corny, skiing was cool though, I like the mango man.

Ok, so those chanting songs really don’t do it for me in ski videos because the only thing I can think of is that one Sherpas Cinema seg or trailer or whatever it was, but only because of that association.

Besides that, I don’t understand what there is to be upset about? Music is art is expression is communication, I don’t think it is “wrong” to embrace stuff like that from other cultures if it is inspiring to a person or project. Building new ideas or new takes from art out of context... What do you think?

I agree with everything you're saying the only part I find strange is that it seems to be BC segments specifically that get chanting song soundtracks like in that sherpas movie yeah. I can't think of many others rn so maybe I'm just imagining this lol

Haha boomer? You're probably older than I am the way you complain so much on this site.

thanks for sharing a clip that, again, i have never seen, and again, is pretty damn impressive. What's your point?

British Columbia is relatively progressive with recognizing Indigenous peoples and their traditional land. Any event my college in BC put on began with acknowledging the traditional territories that the event was held on. Hell, just take a drive from Vancouver to Whistler and count how many Indigenous words you see on roadsigns. There’s also a bunch of unceded territory in BC (no historic treaties on the land) and with recent Supreme Court rulings establishing precedence for indigenous groups to claim title for that land it’s become a hot topic in BC. Perhaps this is rubbing off on the skiers as they pass through.

I kept waiting for the intro to end but it never did. There was some good skiing but overall it was just not that satisfying. I expected it to be like color with a lot of b roll but some heavy clips at the end or a least one segment w some bangers but it never came. I guess I get that it is more about the cinematography and editing in this specific vid but wish there was just one part with some insane mind bending clips like on3p 3. I don't mean to hate it was tight but just not enough

I totally know what you mean. I also feel like camera didn't do the heavy shit justice tho. I think it was Jonnie Merrill that hucked a backie off like a 60 footer, but the lighting or angle somehow made it seem not as huge.

I feel like once Magnus leaves the ground he's one of the most stylish skiers about, his tricks are so damn clean, but once he lands and starts doing all this swerve shite it's pretty cringe worthy, especially when he tries it in pow.

Both Magnus and Mango had some heavy shit, but this definitely needed more Jonnie and Doan clips and there was a lot of filler. I enjoyed it on the whole but I feel like this was meant to be the ON3P project that was going to make us forget that Karl left. And to show that they were still going to be putting out top-grade backcountry stuff... and it wasn't at all. You never know if conditions didn't really work out etc, but it was the same style as all their recent output just in deeper snow, which is a pity. I love watching Magnus, Mango, et al, but I also like some variety and that was missing for me.

Seriously dumbest shit I have read so far today, and that's after spending a couple of hours surfing Reddit.
