I can`t even put into words how absolutely insane it is here right now.
SO MUCH FUCKING SNOW!!!!!!!
and it`s so light and fluffy and the locals say it`s still a little wet and heavy? Holy fucking shit, and it`s STILL snowing and supposed to keep snowing for the next few days!!!!
WUUUUUT?!?!?!

I just flicked through my Niseko photos from last year.. I can't express how badly I want to be back there. Being stuck in summer SUCKS!

Have fun over there buddy

There`s tons of snow here but apparently not as many people as usual because of the weak dollar/strong yen. As a result businesses, like Niseko 343 where I work, are struggling right now.http://www.niseko343.com/modules/weblog/print.php?blog_id=106 (shameless plug, sorry, desperate times)
So if you have some extra cash and want to ski some EPIC pow, it shouldn`t be hard to find a place to stay or if you want to work there are still positions available that provide housing.
Niseko 343 is currently looking for a ski tech/retail sales person also so drop us a line if you`re interested.

i dont understand how the snow in japan is light. its an island, and its not really that high, shit should be super high water content.

I don`t understand it either. I`ve been skiing in Colorado for the past 15 years and I`ve NEVER experienced anything like it in my entire life. It just keeps snowing fluffy stuff for days & days.

Yeah, it's an island, but the air is coming from Siberia and is damned cold stuff, and is not going to be able to hold that much moisture.
I'm thinking of visiting- what am I looking at pricewise in terms of basic, but reasonable accommodation? I haven't been to Niseko in years, so I don't have a good idea of prices now. The yen has apparently strengthened a lot since my visit to Japan last summer.

For the cheapest accom. you can stay at the hostel for about 3000 yen a night, otherwise you`re looking at about 10000 yen a night. but of course it`s cheaper with more people and longer stays and I hear they are offering a lot of good package deals through travel agencies like JTB. Or if you`re lucky you may be able to find a share accom. somewhere.

Okay this is getting rediculous,
It just dumped another foot of fluff in about 5 hours at village level and is STILL snowing.
Speechless...
You all need to drop what you`re doing right now and get over here with the fattest skis you have.

Dude you've got to stop posting this stuff, you're killing me. I don't see snow again until next November.

Im heading out on the 2nd and January, checking the weather each day and i cannot wait, i just hope it does not stop when i arrive. Any long-term forecasts out?

It stopped snowing for about 6 hours this morning, I got a little worried! Thankfully it's now puking again, I would say a foot in 5 hours is about right. Whilst I was at work (Vale Bar and Grill if anyones in town) I cleared one of our tables outdoors, 2 and half hours later there was about 6/7 inches on it. Going to be a sick day tomorrow, really hope noone books me for a lesson in the morning!

Long term I hear there is another massive storm forecast for Christmas/Boxing day, so it'll probably be sweet until Newyears at least, hopefully it just carries on going!

holy shit guys, you make me so jealous.

i want to go back there. last season in niseko was awesome. so many good memories

have fun!

wouldnt wanna ride there since on my way down through the neck deep powda id jizz in my new pants.

dude ur so lucky to shred that champagne. if only i had some dough to live there 1 season.

too bad.

well, enjoy that powda. must be an awesome feeling to have that fluffy snow flying over your head. -im dreaming again.

damn life sucks :D

cheers

just woke up and it is STILL snowing. I am going into powder shock.
gonna take some runs before work, hopefully I won`t drown and make it back to work alive.

another half a meter just over night and still snowing.wanna go out and ride but too stiff from yesterday.
this place is rediculous.

good to hear u didnt suffocate yet XD

hows the avalanche danger? soon, if it gets any deeper, ull get stuck in the mellow runs, and the steeps will be too dangerous.

avy danger is getting higher for sure.already getting stuck in low angle stuff.steeper in-bounds stuff seems to be OK.can`t wait till they open Mizuno no Sawa.

The night riding in Niseko is phenomenal.. By far the best runs I've had have been at night time. That video looks unreal - I'm SO jealous of you!

Still snowing, but much windier today, most of the lifts shut this afternoon and it was FREEZING up there before they did.

Hey today was so epic here in Niseko. Have a look, interview with Australian skier Tom Costa and some blower pow shots...we got almost 50cm of snow last night! Sorry I can't embed but here is the link..http://www.vimeo.com/7151832

Maybe someone could embed for me? :)

Sounds huge over there, i cant wait to be there, flying over on friday, shredding pow by Sunday with a bit of luck!

i love Niseko, unfortunately i didn't get much time experiencing it. went up there for march break for 5 days and broke my collar bone on the second day. the snow never stopped falling from the day i got there to the day i left. it was amazing. it was so tough to watch everyone shredding the pow..

I've been told the Japanese don't ski the pow because they dont want to disturb the tree spirits. Im not kidding, that was what i was actually told. Guess that means its all gaijin that shred the chin deep floaty stuff.

Headed to japan tomorrow for 2 weeks. Myoko and Hakuba. Ill hopefully In The Moment will have a full japan seg from the trip.
