Olympics 2022 - Slopestyle

I enjoyed the big air forum so I figured why not make a thread for slopestyle. The course is sick . Some one in another thread said it looked like an extended nine nights set up. I think after the competition in big air both mens and woman’s slope should be insane.

I don’t pay attention to the Olympics at all when is it?

Nick posted somebody hitting the great wall feature as a wall ride. Was pretty slick.

The course looks amazing, hopefully the judging is fair

I’m out here in Genting for the broadcast, we’re covering the slopestyle. Watched everyone do some training yesterday, and talked to a few athletes about the course and what they like.

the rail section is sick up here, and the variety that was being throw down yesterday was unreal. A jump was built up onto the watchtower rail, and many other lips were tweaked.

y’all are in for a treat.

womens qualifiers goes down tomorrow (local time), so Saturday night for all you folk.

then womens finals and mens qualifiers the next day, followed by mens finals the day after.

Jesper too, inb4 he'll probably due some next level rail lines and then get scored really low for doing a dub 16 blunt and switch blender 12

I love Jesper, but there's a decent chance it's a dub 16 tindy.

no one said henrick but his rail and jump game is probably the best it has ever been tbh….

Asked him yesterday how he felt about the course. He loves it, but said the skew jumps make him Ubercorked, and he’s a little worried… ?

but I believe in him. Seems super confident with everything.

Random thought, but really like Wallisch and his partner in the commentator booth. It has just been awesome to have Wallisch in the booth, don't agree with everything he says sometimes, but you just can't find a better announcer maybe in the whole world lol. His partner, forget his name, has been super good as well, but I will say I watched an old slope run recently and I do kinda wish they would bring back Luke Van Valin here and there, that dude is hilarious lol.

simo peltola from finland. his insta @ is speldo

he was the guy doing the dub to one foot in bigair. the dopest style in skiing rn imo

Colby was doing a nosebutter onto the cannon, he's gotta be on the podium if he laces it all. Have a feeling Henrik is gonna get robbed tho

Tindy? Heard it used a lot but never figured out what it meant

A non-capped blunt, I believe specifically on the outside edge. It’s a sure way to get a deduction and it’s been Jesper’s downfall many times.

Does anyone know why Oystein isn’t competing this year?

I believe he’s retired from comp skiing.

It's from snowboarding and a big no no. Halfway between an indy gran and a tail grab. Back in the day a bunch of my snowboard friends had 'do not grab here's tickers on their boards in the tindy zone.

As [tag=119060]@*TURBONERD*[/tag] said, he’s retired from comps. Focused on filming and having fun, being with his lady friend

Ladies Slopestyle qualifiers is about to go down in less than 3 hours! Hope everyone will be watching, they were going for it during training the past few days.

Are you out in Genting? Or commenting remotely? Feel free to message me here, or find me on Instagram (below in signature). Or if you’re out here, I can come find you somewhere at the resort. I work in the broadcast compound.

Don’t know how much insight I can provide tho….I’ve just been watching and making small talk on the chair with people.

Its a pretty great broadcast duo for an obscure olympic sport. Tom does a really good job breaking things down so someone unexposed to the sport can be engaged with while still being entertaining for the rest of us. I also really enjoyed the nbc duo for snowboard pipe, the one guys rant about judging was fantastic.

Storming hard here. Ladies slope has been pushed back 2 hours.

The girls were barely making it over the last jump,

Interesting I thought that was just what we called a tail grab

Tail grab is:

Tail grab: inside edge, on the tail (closer to the rounded part as possible)

Blunt: capped - or grabbing the true end of the ski.

Stale: opposite ski from opposite side, outside edge near the tail (so left ski grabed with right hand from the right side)

Really appreciate your insider coverage. Does it seem to you that the competitors take the rails section as seriously as the jumps when it comes to their score? Also do they know and/or respect the judges?

Slope was canceled today for obvious storm reasons. So everything is going to be pushed forward a day. Ladies Slope Qualies are tomorrow, And finals Tuesday, with Mens Qualies Tuesday afternoon. Mens finals will now be on Wednesday here.

So I’ve only watched the skiers train up at the rails section so far. Haven’t seen anyone hit the jumps.

That being said, the rail game is strong up here. Butters on, big swaps, transfers, flips on and off, other parts of the course being used too. I can’t say I know who’s who, I need to find a start list for these events.

I don’t know the judges, but I always hold out hope that they’ll be respectful for the athletes.

I’m just here to make the cameras look good/work.

(Everything is off because we’re not on air, and I’m just waiting for lunch before I go home)

Jason Arens is one of the judges. He's a long-time judge, and, for younger members, a long-time pro. Go watch some Good Enough episodes if you don't know his name. Here's a decent interview with him for anybody interested:

Great read, I know Jason wayyyyyy back from my days on Surface, then saw his reel of him throwing a nice lofty trick over the middle hit.

I honestly haven’t done a ton of research for the slope events. I know the who’s who, but at the end of the day, I’m just an old man now. Lots of new names in the game I don’t know.

Time to look into some stuff.

Haha yes I love how finally someone just openly criticizes the judging in that Ayumu Hirano thing, judges should be just as susceptible to criticism as any skier imo, if not even more susceptible, despite the commentator's kind of being in the event organizer's "pocket"

The triple woodsy has been trying is sick

Edit because I'm dumb and didn't realize that was from big air qualifiers.

whenever someone gets overscored people always attack the rider’s skiing, like damn son all he did was the run he came here to do, don’t beef with the rider beef, with the judges

Does anyone know what the format will be like? I imagine it’s best run and not best two runs or anything like that!? 3 total runs?
