Olympic scnowboard pipe

he landed on his ass on one of the hits, and last hit he landed on the flats, and although it's incredible he was able to land he handraged, and still claimed at the bottom, which was sad.

on a side note, that pipe looked horrible

I'd like to congradulate Ipod for being the first snowboarder to win both the olympics and the cloud 9. An amazing feat.

Shaun still went bigger then anyone else, and despite a few sketchy landings still got his whole run in . I think he deserved 4th, just be happy he didnt score any higher.

I agree with the commentators, the runs were scored too highly across the board meaning they kind of hit a ceiling by the time the second run came round.

He butt checked, handdragged, and missed the grab on his easiest trick. Would have been an 78 with any other rider, I don't care he went high whatever.

Zhang Liwei should have taken the Gold. Progressive as fuck and styley to boot. The judging was so off, fuck, Iouri's run was good but he didn't deserve the win

If it were spin to win Shaun would have one

But the stlye/smoothness the other riders displayed was perfect.

I wish Danny would have stayed up, really wanted to see him walk away with a medal

The world seems to have a fantastic sense of irony and right and wrong right now. Never been so happy to see someone not podium. Fuck the haters on my hate. Couldn't have happened to a worse person.

don't get me wrong, i'm not saying it's NOT the russian org's fault, but why wouldn't SPT do it just cause of the low payment? it's the olympics, go do it well for fuck's sake

I know they won't -- but the whole event should be scrapped, and they should hold it again at a properly constructed pipe.

I can't tell you how many people would be pissed off from that minefield of a pipe. Even Red Bull could've made a better pipe. What a disgrace.

BBC commentary was literally one of my favourite things about the olympics yet. Included gems such as:

'Absolute woppatron'

'that [trick] was like an alligator giving birth. Beautiful.'

yeah without paying attention to all the technicalities (amplitude, grabs, switch riding, etc) his run was my favorite to watch.

first of all it's "Yiwei", there is a difference.

Being Chinese, I do want Yiwei to win obv, but I still think Ipod deserves the gold. Yiwei's style is there, but it's the raw magnitude that's lacking, and make no mistake, going against a russian-swiss is always an uphill battle for asians in terms of raw physicality.

what amazes me most is that he basically comes out of nowhere and start getting publicity real quick. idk about others, but I never knew he existed until this year's xgame.

Pretty disappointing to think that we're probably not going to see pipe skiing at it's very best in these olympics, considering the pipe is in such a state.

the only press he has ever done

To all those who are losing their shit on the pipe....honestly for the conditions they aren't nearly as terrible as they could be. You have a pipe that is that slushy, with that many dude hitting it.....its gonna get fucked. Honestly after every 30 runs it should be recut and cleaned up, but I guess thats just not possible. Hell the pipe looking as good as it does in those conditions is pretty awesome. SPT would be fighting similar conditions, and so would Pat from Planet.

I say the organizers need to let the Zaugg in there with a Bison to clean out the flat bottoms as the runs go, if not then your gonna get an undervert pipe with a filled in slushy bottom.

they would need to let the floor of the pipe set for a few hours before they could ride it again if they brought a bison in

who the fuck cares what shape the pipe was in. This is the olympics, its an amateur event for a reason. Get real people, if you want to see top level riding just go agead and watch xx games.

not with salt in those temps, step cut, zaugg, clean out flat bottom, groom, and salt. 30 mins for salt to set, and your good.

seems like pulling out of slope worked wonders for shaun! you have to wonder if he would have made the podium for slope seeing that it didnt take triples to win it. shaun would have put together a clean run in slope and gave the winners a shot for sure

im glad Shaun was cool with the loss, hopefully this helps his reputation with the public and other riders, showing thats hes not just some win-obsessed dickhead

Yeah I gained a bit of respect for Shaun after watching this Olympics. he's still a massive dildo though

WAS an amateur event. Pro's have been competing in the Olympics for over 20 years now.

So, you know...

Pretty sad to see everyone complaining about the pipe construction. John Melville knows how to build a pipe, no question about that. SPT is a huge company that gets all the biggest contracts and has some extremely skilled employees. However the only way those guys would have done a better job is if they could somehow bring colder weather with them. I guarantee the pipe was shaped perfectly, but with non frozen snow after a handful of riders theres gonna be some bumps.... not to mention after a few rounds of everyone riding it.

The strongest rider won and everyone that is making excuses and blaming the pipe didn't deserve to win.

I don't know anything about who they got or the weather. Honestly have barely followed this olympics. The way people made it sound it was cut like shit not just beat from weather.

But on that note wasn't there water running down the middle of the pipe in BC the day before the olympic halpipe there or something? Felt like I heard that somewhere. Def sucks to have winter games if it's not cold enough.

Yesss, Shaun White is finally becoming irrelevant. Thank the lord

Now everyone can stop talking about him

From what I heard it was cold a few days ago then got warm pretty fast... so if the snow isnt bonding it will go to shit real fast. I just like to stick up for the builders cause its a thankless job enough as it is.. no need to hate on the guys for giving it their all(backed by a lot of experience)

It was similar in Vancouver but luckily the temperature dropped right in the nick of time and everything firmed up.. otherwise it would have been exactly the same as it was in Sochi. Also there were no rivers flowing down the pipe..

Word. And yeah I do as well, and honestly would rather see more companies getting big contracts. That's why it would have sucked if the pipe was garbage because of the build as nobody would be taking any chances with anyone but the top couple groups after.

Maybe they should bust out the olympics in january next time.

When he was gaping at the screen and laughing and generally losing his mind with surprise, he kept looking at them and smiling. They did not return the smiles. And then looked at each other like, "...this guy."

that was actually meant to be a joke. Not saying Sochi was unprepared because it was 5 degrees there all day but the condition of the pipe was fairly atrocious.

"It's the Olympics. It should be flawless," American Danny Davis told Yahoo Sports. "What a lame showcase of snowboarding, and what a lame way to treat the athletes.

"The IOC probably didn't want to pay the right guys to do it," Davis said. "I'm pretty sure what they're focused on is keeping as much money in their hands as possible. That's the shame of it all. All these kids, myself included, worked very hard to get here. And then the pipe is just no fun and boring and [expletive]. Halfpipe is super fun. But riding a crappy pipe and having to perform in it is the worst."

Dunno if its because skiing is new and are stoked to be here, but it seems like all boarders do is complain. Complain the slope course isnt safe, when all the skiers are loving it. Now saying the pipe is garbage

Personally, I'm not as stoked about Ipod winning as I am about Ayumu Hirano getting silver. I mean, this kid is 15 years old and just placed second at the Olympics. The amount of amplitude he was getting was insane for his size.

And to all the people who are going to complain about the pipe: If a 15 year old boy can lay down the run that he did in this pipe, the seasoned riders should have been able to as well. Plain and simple.
