Ohio now has tigers, bears, wolves, and lions loose!

We want to survive and pass down our genes. If anyone/think fucks with that, shit goes down. If you haven't figured out that the world works like that you're in for a surprise.

actually... no.. do you really think that there are all that many just lying around? yes, give it a day and you could probably find enough tranquilizers/tranquilizer to make it work, but you honestly want a bunch of bears and tigers running around your neighborhood and kids until then? You think that there is a lot of bear tranq just lying around ohio?

I'm with you all the way Micheal, fuck humanity's arrogance in thinking the world is ours. I'm sure 90% of you will think im a tree hugging idiot but this site is full of conceded close mindied pricks like the people quoting simba and calling him out

All of fucking Africa wasn't running through Ohio.

It was 25 animals. 25.

They sure as fuck have that many bear tranquilizers.

Just to shut all you tree-huggers up, the National Humaine Society AND Jack Hannah (Famous animal expert and works for Columbus, OH Zoo) both said that law enforcement did the absolutely correct thing, and that human lives were at stake.

AS much as I would of liked tranquilizers to be used, there really wasn't any other option to kill them. Heres a quote from the sheriff off of CNN "If this had been a 9 o'clock or 10 o'clock incident, in the middle of the day, odds are high that we may have been able to surround the area and keep everything contained," he said. "But our biggest problem that we had was nightfall. We had about an hour, hour and a half of light, and we just couldn't take the chance." I also read something about the deputies being charged by the tigers at night. They killed them with a pistol from four feet away!!!! Holy shit, thats fucking crazy.

you obviously have never lived in ohio, let alone east columbus. Not too many bears running around that area there big boy. And it only takes one

The Main issue I have with this was just the bengals-did any of you read what I said before? There are less than 2500 left in the wild (estimated). If I was to shoot a tiger in india and get caught, I'd face a shit load of jail time.... It's just a real shame to see those tigers killed when there are fuck all left in the world.

I agree that it's unfortunate. My issue is with the people (not you) saying that law enforcement took the wrong actions.

It's a shame these animals were put down but you have to realize they couldn't shoot tranqs at them like many are suggesting. In Ohio we don't have any animals that are dangerous so the only tranqs would be at the zoo. I believe when you shoot an animal with a tranq you have to adjust it to account for their metabolism and their temperament( I remember seeing something like this on African rhinos). So assuming that a zoo would have enough tranqs(which I doubt considering they don't have 18 tigers + tons of other predators) you would have to teach the police about the tranqs(i doubt a few zoo people could quickly take out all those animals). So lets say everything works from here, last night there was a storm and that would make things more dangerous, tigers don't instantly fall when you hit them with the tranq. I really wish they could have lived but I believe the police did the right thing.

Wow, I can't believe how ignorant/fucking stupid most of the people in this thread are. Your insensitivity to the whole situation is actually appalling.

They could have at least tried tranqs on the bengal tigers considering they are endangered.

And lions i mean come on

The monkey that escaped had herpes B (which is a potentially deadly virus). The good news was that it was eaten by one of the large cats, but if the large cats where willing to eat a monkey, I think it would be likely they would have gone after kids. With this in mind I think that what they did to prevent the animals escapes was the correct thing to do in this circumstance.

Are you fucking stupid? Of course our lives are more important than theirs... This situation obviously doesn't affect you directly, but what if you had lived in the area you would be okay and dandy with fucking lions chillen in your backyard? It's easy to say wow they handled that situation poorly, but yes our lives are more important to theirs in our mind. Likewise a lion's life is more important to them than us, don't think for a second a lion wouldn't maul you if it felt you were a danger, same logic applies here. The police acted in self-defense here, a preemptive move to protect people....

I

also, another point for simba, is if all "animals" (if you want to include us and just treat us as another animal) were just that and we should just treat everyone the same, then we would still be killing these animals. They were a danger to our species and therefore we kill them to save our species, thats what any animal would do. You make it sound like AWWW POOR INNOCENT ANIMALS, yet any one of these would kill us in a second, and would kill other defenseless animals. You dont see lions coming upon a family of antelopes and deciding "awww that young kid is poor and defenseless, we should definitely let him live". You either have to treat us as superior, or you have to treat us as animals. And in either case we kill these animals to protect ourselves

hypothetically, say you are a father of a five year old boy in the immediate area where the tigers are loose. Your son wanders out of the house, unaware of the tigers, and is mauled and killed by one. (although unlikely, it is possible) And the reason the police give you for the tiger being alive and able to kill your son is because they were waiting for tranqs. Would you still have the same position? A innocent human life is always more important than any animal. Its the way the world works. If you were near a tigers young, would it hesitate to maul you?

Bengal tigers: classified as endangered by IUCN as the population is estimated at fewer than 2,500 individuals with a decreasing trend.
Humans: currently estimated to be 6.97 billion by the United States Census Bureau, as of October 15, 2011.
Look at it in that way, and it seems like the animal control/police whoever could've taken a bit more care in capturing these animals, instead of just shooting them. They could've made a bigger effort, rather than shooting them to save a couple of people

It's not that hard to stay the fuck inside of your house for a day or two. It's not like oh look, Lions, better go outside and water some plants and hope it doesn't see me!

And to the hypothetical situation about my son.

That wouldn't happen...because my son wouldn't be a fucking idiot and would stay the fuck inside if there were lions outside of our house.

It shocks me to see how many people think that we are the supreme beings and that everything else is below us and ours. Not to sound cliché, but the planet isn't ours. It's shared with hundreds of thousands of different species. And sure, I'd be pissed if a close person to me was killed by one of them, but that's still and endangered animal, and humans still overpopulate this planet.

Being that all these animals died.... I really hope they go into natural history museums rather than becoming rugs for the ohio police force.
At least if they had to die, they can help educate kids.
---trying to look on the bright side.

just saw it on the news, most bizzare fucked up story ever. crazy fucker with a private zoo of african animals lets em all loose and kills himself.. da fuck? i dont think they really had an option but to shoot them all though, 50 mostly dangerous animals roaming the streets being chased by police, they woulda been pissed off...

Stay inside your house for a day or two? Are you kidding me? So people can't go to work, can't walk their dog, pretty much in a area lock down for some lions?

Sick logic bro.

To all of the people bitching about not using tranquilizers - they tried. The local radio station interviewed one of the guys from the Ohio Zoo that was helping capture the animals - he used to run the zoo in my area. He stated that they had no choice but to put the animals down. They tried using tranquilizers, but they weren't effective. A tiger (I believe) was shot with a tranquilizer and still charged a woman. They had to shoot it dead to save the woman's life.

Plus, it was starting to get dark and these are predatory animals, so they couldn't effectively tranquilize any of the animals. He was not proud of what they had to do, but said that it was the right decision. The danger presented to both the police, local residents, etc. far out weighed everything else. Cut the police chief some slack - even the zoo employees assisting (obviously animal lovers) agreed it was the right thing to do.

Is it too bad they had to do what they had to do? Of course it is, but sometimes the right decisions aren't easy or popular.

Are there any animals still on the loose? Because this kind of thing happened in the UK I think and now there are big cats wild there. I will lol if some of these tigers reproduce and make a population in Ohio. They pretty much can adapt everywhere.

Not that unlikely of a situation for a young child to sneak outside. He may not see the tigers outside, and think its safe.

the pictures/result are unfortunate, but there wasn't much more to be done.

Tranquilizers clearly couldn't work, so what else were they supposed to do? Let them roam free? These are predatory animals. It's not like it was all housecats who wanted to lie in the sun all day. These are big pissed of cats that will most likely get hungry and aggressive very soon.

As for the superior species argument....the fact that we even have the option of tranquilizers answers that I think. You think a lion is going to look at you and think "maybe I can just immobilize him, instead of battering the shit out of him."?

The real question here is how in the HELL this guy had all these animals.

I love how Hollywood has everyone so bent on the idea that the second an animal gets shot with a tranquilizer that is of appropriate strength to not kill the animal, that they drop immediately.

Yes - It's tragic that it happened. The police are not to blame here though.

Those who allowed this man to house these animals are to blame, and the man himself for releasing the animals (after keeping them captive in poor conditions as well).

Wouldnt you want ot go on a Midwestern Safari? I know that i fuckin would, they could make big money off this shit if they did it on a more regular basis.

You realize that they are animals right? You also realize that thousands a children die everyday. Turn your feeling of injustice towards helpuing PEOPLE stay alive. I mean seriously fuck all animals. I would kill a million animals to save one kid

That would be fucking kick-ass. Holy shit. Theres a dude in my town that has a zebra and a buffalo that just chill with his horses in the horse pen things. Its awesome shit.

Do all of the people in here think that there is just one tranqulizer that works universally with all animals? When zoo's do them, they have to gauge the weight and a bunch of other factors before deciding the dosage, much like anesthesia in the hospital. So to say "OMG those cops suck! they should have use tranq's" is an irrational argument. Humans were in danger from this, including little kids.

No matter what those cops did, ignorant people would bitch. so let em bitch.
