Official Tahoe Thread

not yet, like i said im not working yet since its still early in the season, but i will be soon.

but from not working there, i can still say that they wont have a park for a little bit into the season.

i'll keep you guys posted

Maybe you aren't working yet because you were NFG. They were up in Belmint building yesterday and this morning in the rain I heard. Belmont is opening tomorrow with 7 features.

so according to TWD, this storm is not going to be as cold as expected. we should see some snow above 7500' and a "slushy coat" at 6500'. which kinda sucks.

thats a whole lot of percipitation

Any updates on the storm? Looks like its a lot of the wet stuff if any. I want to make the trip up to squaw on tuesday but don't know if the 4 hour drive will be worth it.

straight from the weather geek;

All of this is being powered by an “atmospheric river” of moisture several hundred miles long from California out over the Pacific.

We could see rainfall rates of half an inch per hour near the Sierra Crest tonight and tomorrow for a total of more than six inches of new rainfall. Snow levels are expected to climb to nearly 10,000 feet on Sunday before dropping to 6,000 feet as the cold front moves through late Sunday. But by then most of the precipitation will have moved east and we will probably see just a few inches of snow at the mountain passes.

Flood warnings are in effect for Sunday along the area’s stream, creeks and rivers, including for the Truckee River between Squaw Valley and Truckee.

Winds will be ferocious at times, with gusts of 140 mph possible at the Sierra Crest.

Monday and Tuesday should be pleasant before another warm storm, not as big as this one, hits us mid-week.

It is dumping at lake level right now. If this keeps up we could see major snow before the day is over.

Went to Northstar today, took one run with my coach and called it quits. Fuck that shit. As soon as i left it started dumping snow.

Anyone out in the K-Wood area? how is it out there? I'm looking to teach my girl how to ski and i'm not doing it on a powder day.

heavenly should be sick tomorrow! soo much snow, unfortunately im gunna be scanning all you lucky mofos tickets all day

Until it all melts and freezes and becomes ice, like always at heavenly.

What's the park looking like?

same setup on cal trail except for the barrel bonk which is reset on a higher pad. Ante-up is getting closer but still needs some snowmaking before its ready to go.

The bonk just needs to come out really. Just a waste, you can't really do anything and the landing (before the higher pad) was like 6 feet long and yeah haha. You're the skier on the park crew who has been there forever right?

Question, how much snow does a general night of snowmaking produce? 4-5 inches? I've always kinda wondered that. Will we see bigger jumps in ante up, 30-40 ft, or will we see the 15 footers like towards the end of last season?

who was up at Squaw today? even though the power went out around 11, it was still super fun. chalky fast snow. Solitude laps all day!

Yeah more snow is supposed to be pushed into the landing of the barrel tonight along with a few other switch ups. I have worked there a few years now.

How much snow you can make really depends. The colder it is the more efficient it is. When it is warmer you have to pump out lots of air and not much water. This means not too much snow. This is also effected by humidity. When is really cold you dry you can make a lot of snow in a night. Jumps will probly be in the 30-40ft range.

The problem with Ante-Up is that is under the lift. That means they can only blow when the chair is closed and its not windy. They usually end up blowing most of it into the woods trying not to cover the chair. They also get a late start on turning on the guns because the lifts close right as one snowmaking shift is ending. This means the next shift has to turn them on. By the time they get up there its pretty late. Its the same problem with shutting the gun offs. The grave yard guys have to shut them off before their shift is over because the day crew arrives too late. The lift is closed for 16 hours but you only get about 8 hours of snowmaking. Basically its slow as fuck to blow snow on Ante-Up which alos has huge logs and rocks that the TRPA wont let us remove. Also, most natural snow just blows away.

TRPA sucks big dick. My dad's company just got fined like $15,000 for hitting a tree by the montblu with his tractor. It's shitty.

Why don't they just move the guns, blow the snow somewhere else, then push it over to ante up? Or, just say fuck it and start blowing for high roller.

With SPT at heavenly now, what has that really done? I mean, i havn't really noticed any changes other then the "High Roller" Logo was changed up a bit and some new features have been added. But does it effect how the features are maintained/what is made when?

Kelly Sildaru is now training at northstar. I'm not sure for how long. But yeah, she just popped out of no where and yeah, it was sick skiing with her today.

I don't becasue none of my pussy boarder friends really like it. Ya know why...

1.They suck.

2.They bought the epic local pass.

3.They suck.

I make it to squaw maybe once or twice a year. Shit is fun.

Anyone wanna get after some urban today? New to the area so I don't know any spots but i got a shovel and a bunch of stoke watching the snow fall outside, 541-610-4358

this afternoon wasn't bad at Northstar, got a little bit of powdertopped runs here and there. Anyone been to the park recently? Haven't been yet this year but probably going tomorrow if anyone else is down to ride.

me and a couple buddies are going up today.

park is really sick! they have alot of features. I think pinball opened today too?

the snow is coming!!!!

We should see the snow begin to fall Thursday night and then really pick up during the day on Friday. The snowfall should be constant through the weekend with heavier waves Friday, later Saturday and Sunday as the main low pushes through. The models are in pretty good agreement with 2.5-3.5 feet of snow possible at lake level through Sunday, 3-5 feet above 7000 ft., and 4-6 feet possible West of the lake along the crest. The GFS has about a foot more possible for the West side of the lake and the crest.

Here is the GFS snowfall forecast in inches through Sunday. Notice the brown and white is 4-5 feet with the pink of over 5 feet nosing down the Sierra.

granite laps + windblown headwall = happy.

prob heading out tomorrow for a bit for any leftovers and to bomb groomers on the new skis before the next storm. should be fun

I'm currently coding for a website that will feature tahoe riders, tahoe edits, tahoe weather, and up to date park status's of some resorts around the lake. Just a place for sick tahoe skiing/snowboarding content.
