Official Stevens Pass Thread

shit was DEEP in the morning. almost freaky. but since it wasn't steep, speed was an issue. Next time I'll let other people get stuck and break trail on the lower mountain.

But some amazing turns were to be had, simply put. So deep and dry.

I just heard this from stevens, they are announcing that you can let your friends from out of town use someone elses season pass since the lifties have about a 0 percent chance of noticing through their little scanner they dont pay attention to~

Haha yeah man I thought to myself this new system is even easier to cheat. Ill never lend my pass out cause im usually up there. I am also gonna have some friends buy college passes who dont even go to school, they didnt even check my paperwork when I picked up pass today. Same with ski check, they just asked if I got it and i said yeah and they just took it.

it was so good today. Minus how crowded it was. I found a new drop/cliff 10-15 feet with a nice launch, and sloped pow landing. Stomped some dope grabs off that. Also stomped some hella 3's.

Yesterday was amazing, I had some of my best runs of my life, and hit a few really fun drops. Also had some of the scarier moments on skis, like going over the handle bars face first into 3-4ft of powder, and a sketchy incident in the trees but overall a great day. really impressed with the park the guys got up too.

Real fucking happy the patroller I talked to lied about why big chief and tye werent opened on thursday. Low coverage my ass, thats why they opened the next day with 2 more inches of snow right? Fuck that missed out on a good day because of that. Oh and during preseason my AT&T phone got service, but now it doesnt, very lame. I wish I could do something about that...

Looking forward to sunday/monday/tuesday though, should be pow days~

Well apparently chief and tye will open for the first time tomorrow. Thanks to derek confirming that they werent open today. Heres what the customer service rep sent me for any naysayers.

i Scott,

We are opening Big Chief and Tye Mill tomorrow. We need certain amounts

of snowpack to get all lifts operational and they also require prep work

once we have the snow needed. We were very lucky in getting the amount

of snow we did, facilitating getting these two lifts open so soon after

opening. It doesn't always work out that way.

Please stay tuned to the Hours of Operations & Lift Schedule page of the

website for details on what is current and other upcoming announcements.

This is where it is announced/published first.

Also according to derek winds will be super high, which should make for super high avy danger on top of this thick light snow layer.

Blizzard warnings in effect for all Cascade passes -- could see 1-2 feet of snow combined with 75 mph wind gusts and wind chills ranging from 0 to -2

-komonews.com

but it says the foot hills could get up to 90mph

yea nothing new opened today, and i couldnt really see a need to try to get the goods on tye or chief tomorrow with that forecast. afterwards, different story.

we were cloud 9 today. Incredible where the people dont really go. Incredible.

Im going to give it a go, probably leave a bit early to avoid getting caught in the blizzard. Apparently winds arent supposed to kick up until after 4.

today was awwsome i loved it. This is my first year at stevens usually i have rode at snocomp and i found something about snocomp that i like waay more i know it might be hard to beleive but the road is sooo much better at snoqualmie. Most of the way to stevens its a two lane road so if your going up or down and one person is going slow then the whole traffic is going slow its hella gay. Today on the way home going threw gold bare and monroe and all that we were going about 40 mphs when you can get like 70 to 60 coming back from snocomp.

you probably did not want to be going 60-70 today. maybe the roads were fine. but I know down here on the islands the roads were definatly not safe to drive over 30 on.

naah on the way back at about 4 30 the roads were not icy they were wet but nothing bad once you get down from the steep part of the pass.

Anyone else confused by this, or have an explanation?

Rain/Snow

Woke up this morning and checked the temps and decided to say fuck it. Skiing in 5 degrees with wind possibly coming in is just no fun 8/~

I was thinking about going up tomorrow, but gusts up to 60mph? fuck that shit i think im gonna wait til monday to go.

Sunday: Snow. High near 15. Breezy, with a east southeast

wind between 18 and 24 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of

precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 6 to 10 inches

possible.

I think tomorrow will be doable, probably go on monday as well though. Was it 60 mph for mission maybe?

not trying to start an E war here, but after watching the first 40 seconds of that second video, I'm pretty sure that I want you to die.

not saying I'm gonna kill you or have you killed, but it would be nice for the rest of us if you were dead so you can NEVER do that again.

Oh man was it fuckin cold up there. Had to of been around 0 all day. My toes were literally frozen, I had to go into the lodge and thaw them out for a good twenty minutes and I never do that. I had a blast though, this is the best snow I have ever skiing. Although I wish this wasn't during opening weekend, I dont feel like I am skiing as well as I want. I have runs wear I rip and others where I feel unsure and sloppy, part of it feels like my new boots are too soft. I fucking hate soft boots and my heels rise a little bit.

Ha used to be 60mph gusts and like 40mph winds. I got shit to do tomorrow anyway with the fam, plus they are opening the upper lifts monday. Plus weekday skiing is so much better.

got some nice pow turns off big chief today. basically spent the whole day there. aim for the spot between the trees, throw em sideways, gaaaaaaaaaaa, so fun.

to everyone going tomorrow, enjoy the backside. and dry humping the robot ticket attendant to make it scan your pass.

who has yellow pants, blue boots, and 179 bents that was there today?

Oh shit I didnt know the backside was gonna be open. I may have to get my ass up there then! Shit, I gotta find someone to go with since my bro might have to work.

Off hogs. Go right off the chair. Not under the lift, not to the left, go between the two. It looks like you would get stuck cus the pow is deep, take the little trail few people have used and follow the main path. You will get down and towards the bottom there with be two drops and several nice things to pop off of. Than directly after the last drop there is a cat track that takes you to the lower part of hogs. Nice run, we found that and only road it for the rest of the day cus it was so nice and secretive.

That could have been me, but i ride 189's. Lapping big chief was the way to go today until patrol opened seventh at 1. There were some sick lines up top

scott i swear you told me that. maybe youre just getting me to spread lies since you refused to go thru the secret passage.

bring your skinning setup then the backside will be open.

Anyone know what happened up on 7th yesterday? It looked like someone fell under a rock. There were about three people all gathered around a huge rock in the boulder field.

I believe Grant and I have something for you Will:

FUCK.

Everyone can put thier pants back on, because the backside remains closed. 3 feet on rocks, absolutely no base. 7th was closed today as well.

Still, fun was had. Deep in spots where nobody goes, and Annies was prime. Grant where the fuck did you guys go, I was riding skyline pretty much the rest of the day and never saw you.

Also, why the hell did they not RFID the park? Seems like it would be an easy thing to have, much more foolproof and better for the poor dudes that have to stand there all day checking passes.
