Official Stevens Pass Thread

several times, mods did not like me tonight. I guess the fact that I filled wales regionals with 5300 threads and then made a million aliases taunting them was part of it~

i definately saw you up there on monday in the jl suit and madens. i was about to come say hi, but i was with a bunch of friends. i was in last years nickel camo oakley pants and a bright blue bonfire jacket with the original prophet 130's

Great day today, very fun christmas. Had a lot of solid runs and one absolutely epic one down wild katz after bootpacking up with will. Also hiked cowboy... great but not really worth it~

Tonight was pretty filthy at Stevens. Skied from 3-10 and it was snowing the entire time. By the end of the night there was some little stashes on areas that had previously been skied out. Still have yet to step one foot in the park and love it.

Fun day, deep heavy pow. Some speed issues, but it looks like double diamond and the backside may open up tomorrow. They were hauling gear up DD all day. Had to bail a little early though because my mom's office flooded from snowmelt~

DD opened around 1 pm, snow up top was smooth creamy windbuff. Patroller helping bump chairs said backside opening is possible monday, something about it being to deep back there right now?

blergh, I had to leave at 1. Thanks for the info about the backside though. I did notice that the backside didnt really have a base, but that was thursday~

NO FUCKIN WAY!

I just told my gf I would meet up with her on Monday and havent seen her in weeks. Mother fucker. You have GOT to be kidding me.

Need to help deal with this snowmelt tomorrow so I wont be coming up, monday for sure though. See you guys then~

quite an interesting day. polar opposite of the last couple weeks and super super warm and heavy classic PNW powpow. everything was like in slow motion today. i was on bents today and my dad was on on3p BGs and they did awesome in the heavy snow.

learned today that everyone needs to that odessey skis for inventing the shaped ski. no really, he's suing nearly every ski company for stealing his idea. some guy was on a pair of these things in the big chief lineup this morning and was giving them a good rep to the general public but a bad rap to anyone with any ski building or ski history knowledge. he could not answer my basic question about materials or the construction process. but no worries because he was "product testing for this ground breaking ski" whereas it appeared he was riding a semi-custom ski because the only input he could account for was selecting the graphics and flex. he also informed me that a former ski magazine employee now working for K2 stole one of their skis at a ski test at mount baker and thats the real origin of the rockered K2 skis. nevermind mcconkey or the spatulas because it was 9am and i wasn't quite feeling like being a jackass yet. i'm sorry if you know this guy who was there today, because he really was spreading misinformation. almost as bad as boone's ads up top there ^^^ that state that bamboo nearly rivals steel in strength. bamboo's allowable tensile stress is 4 ksi according to the US Navy and 3.5 ksi according to my tests..........a piece of rebar has an allowable tensile stress of 60 ksi. "4" is not rivaling "60".

yes double diamond opened for an hour. with pretty much the funniest/oddest events ever. they have not opened the lift all year so the chairs are completely full of snow. little line has built up in anticipation of the opening. two pro patrollers swing thru, and get on the chair, except the liftie does not even attempt to clean it off, so they have to sit on two feet of snow on the chair and then scoot around and wipe it off as they ride up. then a single pro patroller gets ready to get on the chair, the liftie bumps the chair, except its full of snow and the seat is up. so the troller tries to sit on it, his ass goes thru the bottom and he bails right before it gets too high off the ground. he swings back thru and everyone heckles him all in good fun. then they open the chair to the public. about third chair, then same issue happens (two feet of snow with the seat up, and the liftie does not even try to clean it off). so the two dudes trying to get on the chair end up falling off of it about at the first tower. they plop into the snow but its so deep they can't get up. but the liftie does not stop the chair even though two people obviously just fell off. we were probably around 5th or 6th chair and the guys hadn't gotten a chance to move yet and were wallowing in the deep snow. luckily the chairs were just high enough off the ground that peoples' skis weren't hitting them. but damn, that was the most eventful chair opening ever. double diamond was raped multiple times before we moved over to katz just before the crowds hit it.

oh look, open pillow field

but the snow is thicker than molasses

upper katz it was less than 40 degrees and snow could fly in the air

I actually didn't think the snow was ALL that bad. I mean sure it was heavier than last week, but I was expecting much worse. All I know is that I was pleasantly surprised. The snow was pretty damn deep for sure, I had an absolute blast.

I saw DD churning for a while but was closed to the public so I thought nothing of it. Seventh was pretty chopped up by the time we got up there but was still pretty fun. I cannot wait to hit Wild Katz.

I may have seen you up there. I was on Tye up high on that traverse below Cowboy Mtn and there was this kid on Hellbents wearing a black jacket and like grey camo pants. Anyways, I was scoping out rocks to throw spins off and wasn't sure of this one rock's landing. The kid said the landing was pretty kosher, so I said fuck it and sent it, not knowing how soft the takeoff was yet, got no pop at all and ended in disaster. I was wearing bright green pants and a yellowish plaid jacket if you saw someone make a fool of themselves.

Great day until DD closed, left a couple laps later. The wind actually knocked me over once. I was laying on the ground wondering how the fuck I fell when I realized it was the wind haha. Got to ski with a lot of different people too, and managed to lose all of them by the end of the day, sorry guys heh~

first run down backside today was incredible. then it got progressively worse. atleast i got to try out my new lizzies down backside.

What the fuck dude, I thought you seriously died. I skied Chief a few more times and spent a few minutes screaming SCOOTTT into the wind near those trees when I last saw you. Good to see you're okay.

Rest of the day got interesting on Monday. Closing lifts, eventually just had hogs open around 5. Said fuck it, took the shuttle to yodlin and got out. Fucking US2 in that weather, damn.

Crystal was nice today though.

scott did that to my dad and i in the alpy BC once. i was running around thru the woods screaming his name.

you park at yodelin? how you like that parking lot? wouldn't you like two entrances and double the size?

im not sure of their thinking or order of priorities for parking. for some reason yodelin is on their mind. design now and build in summer 2010. it seems obvious to me that expanding the lots closer to the resort is a better choice. rather than telling your guests to park 10 minutes away and take the bus. or a pedestrian bridge would be cool too instead of running across highway 2 in your ski boots.

Crap sorry, after waiting I figured you must have been ahead of me and waited at hogs and tye. I guess you werent 8/. I didnt actually know where you went in the trees, I think you camoflouged or something and I couldnt hear you so I just skiied around them~

Yeah dude, got up at 6 and was in Monroe by seven. My dad, his friend and I wanted to get first tracks and were stopped 8 miles out. Fuck, today would have been epiccccccccc.

Anyone gonna give it a go tomorrow? I wanna go real bad, a bunch of my friends are lazy though and won't get up early. So I may end up going alone if I can meet up with a few NS'ers.

Ya I will be up, nick and ryan as well im sure. None of us get service though so youll probably just have to spot us. Im in white pants with a red/white jacket and JJs or last years EP Pros. This is all assuming the pass is open~

cant wait for the snow level spike to fuck all the goods that could have been.

i was optimistic that the road would open... but in the end I should have known better. at least nobody else got the goods, and tomorrow might be wishful thinking, too, but screw waiting nearly 3 hours to get the shaft.

I got bright green pants and a checkered yellow billabong jacket. Wear a black helmet and ride Mojo 90s. Pretty easy to spot. Well ill talk to some people and see if anyone wants to go up tomorrow and lets hope it stays cool so rain doesnt fuck it all. But yeah, im down to ride with ya'll sometime.
